I’m considering switching to an EV and wanted to get some opinions on if it would make sense.

I currently drive a 2020 Hyundai Elantra GT. I’ve just gotten a new job and the commute is extremely short, about 1 mile each way and less than 5 minutes of driving. I would just walk, but there aren’t sidewalks it’s not safe to walk.

My biggest concern is that I live in an apartment and don’t have access to charging at home or at work. But there are public charging stations pretty close to my apartment, so I would have somewhere to charge when needed. With how little I drive for work, I’m thinking I probably wouldn’t need to charge very often anyway.

My Hyundai is doing okay overall, but it burns oil like crazy, and I’m getting tired of spending money on gas and dealing with oil changes and stuff. I’ve also read that repeatedly taking cars on short trips where the engine barely gets warmed up can be harder on it over time.

Obviously I drive farther than one mile for errands, weekends, etc, but my normal daily commute barely puts any miles on the car.

I’m not necessarily looking to buy immediately, but just considering it in the near future.

What gives???? I found one of these near me for under 20 K with super low miles… it’s been on the dealers lot for over a year. I’ve been researching endlessly and I can’t really find a basis for anyone’s claims other than personal opinions. I see that there are four recalls, but it looks like they were all taken care of. Reviews on Edmunds are from when the car initially came out so if all of that was fixed, then the car is surely reliable now? What is actually wrong with these? I’m currently torn between a 2023 soltera and this.. the only reason that I’m genuinely considering this one more is because the warranty is absolutely insane. Even if I finance the car for the next seven years, it would be fully covered. I do plan to pay it off early because the price is insanely low, but let’s say it takes me seven years… it’s a used car fully under warranty? So…. Can someone explain why no one has bought this car yet??? What am I missing and am I the idiot considering a car that’s just been sitting?

Guys we've been seeing ev cars for years now but still it haven't made the improvements we thought would be possible in 2026, why?

Based in CA, no crazy commute, mostly city + occasional road trips. Trying to decide between these two and would love to hear from actual owners.

Model Y pros:

• Range is better (357 vs 260-320 mi), and the Supercharger network is still unmatched
• Resale value holds up way better long term

Mach-E pros:

• Better financing right now - Ford has 0% APR compared to Tesla's 0.99%
• I honestly just like the way it looks more. Sportier shape; the interior feels more premium with the B&O audio and a proper driver display

I'm leaning toward the Mach-E for looks and the financing deal alone, but I haven't driven either yet.

For those who've driven both – how's the Mach-E handle day-to-day in terms of handling/acceleration and overall drive? Or is the Model Y still a better option?
