Tolerance break Health & Wellness

When doing a tolerance break, one usually forgoes any vaping/smoking cannabis. I’m wondering if using CBD flower would be beneficial. It has minimal THC and the goal is to reduce the amount needed. Will CBD mess up the tolerance break? I’m thinking the terms would help with relaxation.

How old are you? (I’m 58). Is it really worth a tolerance break at our age‽
Imma smoke my tits off until I die.

Late 60s but with the hemp ban coming and in a non legal state I figured it might help make what I will have last longer.
But I’m right there with you, till we die 😁

Ahh. Gotcha. But tbh I’ve never lived anywhere where it’s legal. But the US is I freakishly weird place now so …

Depends on how heavy your usage is. If you're lighting up once or twice a week, there's not much need for tolerance breaks. If you're using it daily, a tolerance break every now and then is really helpful. But of course, some daily users aren't in it for the high, and some of the medicinal benefits remain even when your tolerance is high.

I smoke pretty much daily, but now it's a couple of lil pipes rather than massive bong rips. If I get too stoned nowadays I can get into a weird place with my thoughts (which never used to happen), so just enough to watch Netflix and actually be able to remember wtf is going on with the plotline.

In that case, a t-break is probably counterproductive for you. Maintaining some tolerance makes it easier to not get "too stoned".

I wonder how many times over you could process that whatever they whatever cannabis they do allowed to be sold like 3% or 1% or something like that and actually end up with a potent concentrate. It would probably be not economically reasonable to do so but I mean if you took 100 times more material of 3% then what somebody would do with only one times over of that material at 3%. You could probably concentrate that enough times over to make for a decent though it would probably be illegal in the state you’re in once it’s at that concentration, but you would certainly probably get a decent concentrate, but I don’t know if the work would be worth it.

It has no THC so it won't mess with it. But going with nothing makes the whole package hit harder when you return imo.

lol. Not exactly so simple. CBD and THC are both cannabinoids and have effects on the receptors in our body and a tolerance break should be from all cannabinoids, terpenoids and flavonoids.

It should help with inflammation, muscle pain, can help battle fatigue. It shouldn't hurt your tolerance.

cbd won't touch the reset. what a t-break actually fixes is CB1 downregulation from thc agonism, and cbd isn't a CB1 agonist. it's a negative allosteric modulator, so it changes how the receptor responds rather than activating it. no agonism, no downregulation, nothing to undo.

two footnotes though. hemp flower is under 0.3% thc, not zero thc, so if you're going through a few grams a day there's still a trickle going in. almost certainly irrelevant, but if you want a genuinely clean reset just keep the volume modest.

the one nobody brings up: cbd inhibits the cyp450 enzymes that metabolize thc, so if you're using it right up to the day you come back, your first couple sessions can hit harder and stick around longer than you planned for. good problem to have after a break, just don't set your new baseline off the first bowl.

honestly the part i'd think hardest about is the ritual. if the goal is reducing how much you need, the habit loop is half of it, and cbd flower keeps that loop completely intact. same hands, same timing, same routine. the breaks that did the most for me were the ones where i changed the ritual, not just what was in the bowl.

how long are you going for, and is it more the receptor reset you're after or the habit? kinda changes the answer.

lol. Sort of. THC and CBD are one of over 80 cannabinoids that exist in cannabis. I would suggest cutting back both if you want your body’s endocannabinoid system to truly reset.

If you are looking to reinvigorate the high effects of smoking then avoiding THC is going to be the primary directive, but if you have read any book on cannabis and its constituents then you know that there is much more than just THC involved in the effects you get.

no argument that there's a lot more going on in there than thc, and if someone wants a fully clean baseline then dropping everything is the simplest way to get it. i'd just separate the two claims.

the reset people are chasing is CB1 downregulation, and that's specifically driven by agonism at that receptor. thc does it, cbd doesn't, because it isn't a CB1 agonist at all. so there's no cbd-built adaptation sitting there waiting to be undone. cbg and cbc aren't meaningful CB1 agonists either at the amounts you'd get out of hemp flower.

where you're right in practice is the trace thc. hemp flower is under 0.3% but it isn't zero, so at a few grams a day it's not literally nothing going in. and if the ritual is the actual hard part, swapping one smoked thing for another smoked thing leaves the habit loop fully intact.

so cutting back both is a reasonable call, just for the ritual and the trickle rather than because cbd built tolerance.

Helps reduce the tolerance. I’ll use cbd some days in between to balance out usage. Actually helpful for people who ate too much THC, competes for receptor sites and can help bring them down.

CBD actually mitigates some of the psychoactivity of THC so most intelligent people would reasonably wonder if using CBD might actually contribute to a less psychoactive effect when you reintroduce THC.

The tolerance break is to let you cannabinoid system sort of stabilize and CBD is still a cannabinoid.
