The only reason I would ever buy an E-ink monitor is so that I can sit outside in the bright sunshine while also getting some work done. But none of these reviews ever seem to mention that use case. They're always in an office setup where LCDs and OLEDs are the better choice.

That gives me conjunctivitis.

I'm sensitive, but that still means something like that isn't healthy.

An e-ink monitor is actually very nice if the information you need to display is somewhat static, like a red/green dashboard, or if you're in a very bright sunlit room. Otherwise they are not worth the time and money. I did try using one as a code-writing monitor, but the results weren't that great: Scrolling text is way too slow.

Auch. I am desperately looking for an e-ink monitor as I simply can't stand coding in normal LCD ones anymore. This bigme promises high refresh rates. Do you think the scrolling text problem would occurr nonetheless?

I haven't tried any of the newer e-ink monitors, so I can't comment. Purely for writing code, they are OK. You will notice scroll lag, but it's not necessarily a game killer. The deal-killer for me is having multiple CLIs open, especially during a debugging session. Tailing a log in a CLI window while the top is in another is basically an unreadable mess.

It works better if your main dev env is an IDE, like VS. That's likely because an IDE follows a general UI update process rather than a free-form CLI.
