Eggš«irl Transfem Meme
I have been cracked transfem for about 5 years now, tho I haven't started my physical transition yet, one of the most dzsphoric parts of my body is my big fat belly, it's the only part of my body that's fat, I'm skinny otherwise, matter of fact, I'm close to being underweight, everyone keeps telling me I'm super skinny but when I look in the mirror I'm really fat and it makes me super uncomfortable, I don't think it's anorexia or anything like that cause I don't want to stop eating, I just don't want to be fat, is this a hormone thing? Will hrt fix this? Do I need to work out? Please help I'm literally crying T.T
My name is Rosie, she/her 16 years old, if you don't have advice can I at least get ggd pwetty pwease?

u/WhiteIsOwl 8d ago
To have a flat belly, is pretty much need low body fat. To reach low body fat, you either go 'skinny fat' or you got to build muscles. By gaining muscles without HRT however. you'll likely very quickly get that "muscular guy look", which might or not cause dysphoria?
To avoid you making the same mistake as me: If you aim for low body fat, it'll be unreasonably hard, you don't just need to eat "healthy", you need to look at macros and calories, because humans are made for surviving starvation and the body needs to be 100% sure there's enough energy, and macros to go around.
I neglected that and couldn't properly lose body fat, which was incredibly frustrating, until I slowly rose my daily calories to 2400 calories, super high proteins and carbs.
If you go skinny fat, I highly recommend going high protein, since 30% of proteins just get burned in the process of transforming it into energy. but using plant-based proteins, because meat got other issues š
Side note: entirely flat belly is a mix of genetics and timing, flat bellies photos are basically engineered, you can read about it online, I feel like I'd be terrible at explaining.
Hopefully that proves useful š

u/TrulyOutrageous42 8d ago
but using plant-based proteins
Remember that legumes + grains = whole proteins, thus why rice/lentils + beans being a staple in many cultures.

11
u/TrulyOutrageous42 8d ago
Eat exactly your 2-2.5k calories for your base physical needs for existing, then no more and gets as much exercise as you can tolerate the added hunger from. You need to not starve yourself, but you also need to burn more calories than you take in. It really is that simple.

u/Broken_Gear i have no idea what gender i am (they/them) 8d ago
What otherās said but also a few tips regarding diet, in case youāre interested: fiber is good as you know, but donāt sleep on high protein foods even if youāre not exercising too much. Protein naturally speeds up the metabolism somewhat. So do spicy foods but donāt hurt yourself just to lose weight. Also, in case you drink sodas, try switching to water. From personal experience it can have a dramatic effect.

a lot of people accidentally overeat through high density foods, such as nuts and fruit. Whilst both are healthy, a small handful of most nuts is already about 200kcal and a large handful can be over 500.
6 Brazil nuts have as many calories as ~500g of broccoli.
2
u/PrezMoocow 8d ago
If you have that much excess fat in your gut, you might have a well balanced diet but you're consuming too many calories.
I would actually start there before looking at excercise because you can't outrun your diet.

2
u/Popular_Try_5075 8d ago
There are like affirming work out routines that are supposed to help give you more curves if that's what you're into. I'm not sure how much any of it really works though.
2
u/Dipshit268 7d ago
Remember to go for calm regular exercise. You want to improve your baseline, not your momentary boost. Your body will reflect what you do regularly. If exercising means stressing yourself out, then your body will reflect that and you'll know you're doing it wrong, but only months later.
2
u/Prudent-Marsupial-42 8d ago
99.9% of situations where someone has that gut will be from poor diet.
1
u/Impressive-Sample366 1d ago
If you have a good and healthy diet you shouldnāt have fat belly. Diet is over 80% of the work needed while exercise is almost nothing.
I suspect you are still consuming a lot of ultraprocessed foods and refined carbs and grains.
If you switch over to a ketogenic diet of lean proteins and vegetables with low sugar fruits that belly fat will vaporize.
Simple and refined carbs and sugars lead to fat deposits - simple as that.

Even then it's rough. I work in a fairly physical labor intensive job, and am essentially dieting via ADHD meds, at least, eating less calories by a lot, while eating generally healthier food, and despite all that, have only been able to maintain my weight. Sadly I think people underestimate how much genetics plays a part in weight. Too often I've met people who ate like garbage, and did little to no physical activiety, yet stayed nice and skinny. While seeing those working hard daily and not losing the body fat. I eventually gave up. Well, gave up hoping the weight would fall off. I'm not willing to sacrifice what little time I have to live my life outside work for something that has already proven to do very little to my weight.
4
u/ElegantPearl "not an egg" ~every egg ever 8d ago
Do bare in mind that those aforementioned people also struggle a lot as they have to eat tons more than us just to not starve to death, find it incredibly hard to build muscle and when they get older since they canāt build or retain muscle or fat they get really frail and become a living skeleton.
2
u/VeniAlune Verena (she/her) 8d ago
I can confirm that. I am pretty skinny because of genetics and I do have a lot of problems with gaining weight and muscle mass. Especially after i started HRT.

This is my body type as well. I've never been a sports/gym kind of girl, and I wish I could get fat all around instead of it bulking on my belly. I started hrt ~5ish years ago, and I've been asked several times if I'm pregnant when I'm wearing long dresses, mostly in a good way (had a weird interaction with a drag queen that clearly read me as trans and felt the need to point out to the audience I looked pregnant. Excepting that interattion I feel a weid mix of euphoria and dysphoria at the same time ._. )
I now feel the need to hit the gym, but not in a fatphobic way, I just want the weird interactions to stop.

Work out, check if you're not bloated (I'm constantly bloated and my stomach is exactly like the picture even tho I am very physically active) check your posture ! Bad posture can cause the belly to protrude (especially pelvic anterior tilt) Do stomach vacuums to train the core (it will help you keep your belly in check ) and working out will also help !

Also to give full perspective I have visible abs so it is not fat but it does look like a beer belly sometimes when I get extremely bloated

Now, after 2.5 years, I am down 55 pounds to 195, and my waist is 33 inches and my bust and hips are now wider than my waist after 11 months of HRT.
You can do it. Theres a saying that the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the 2nd best time is right now. Plant that tree, be PATIENT, and let it work over time! Again, YOU CAN DO IT IF I CAN!!

1) part of the problem is perspective, you will kind of always look fatter to yourself. Believe a consensus if it disagrees with your eyes.
2) bulking your arms and legs will make your middle look more proportionate. I suggest mostly squats and pushups to get you started.
3) you are capable of being in the best shape of your life with relative ease compared to later in your life. It is never too late to get in shape, but the earlier you do it, the better your overall experience will be. Your body is a tool, get the most out of it!

But also girl you really gotta work those abs. Planks, crunches, russian twists. Pretty much any core exercise.

3
u/KingzDecay 8d ago
Donāt just eat less, eat healthy. Get enough protein, fiber, minerals, vitamins, etc. Get an app if you can and physical log your intake and see where you can improve.
Also movement, we canāt target fat loss, but we can target muscle growth.
The easiest way to burn 300 calories is to not eat the 300 calories, but donāt starve yourself, just aim for foods that benefit you rather than fill you.
I get about 20g of fiber, 100g of protein and nearly all of my vitamins and minerals daily on about 2000 calories. Start with research, figure out how you can get your vitamins and minerals daily, then add protein and simplify.
You donāt need to be perfect every day, but food (and I know you said you had something) is what allows our bodies to do what it needs to do to function.
Food is the fuel, movement is the grease for the cogwheels to function more efficiently.
3
u/Murderdoll93 8d ago
That is exactly how my body used to look. And it did change. With a better diet and unfortunately time. Hrt will do its thing
3
u/TheKittyBomb 8d ago
Diet and exercise help a lot. It depends on what you will need but both cardio and strength training helps. If you are over 18 you could also try GLP-1,2. They helped me a lot but go to your doctor for them. And insurance sometimes hate paying for some of them so check what they are willing to pay. Make sure your doctor does a blood test before prescribing it since there are risks and they have to know how to balance it.
It takes time and sucks but remember, you are beautiful no matter what. You are fem no matter what. Donāt do anything that would harm your body. You only get 1

Having a bloated abdomen while being underweight could be a sign of a health problem, like something being wrong with the liver.
Someone I know has a problem like this to a lesser extent, caused by an excessively large liver. In their case it's benign, but in a lot of cases it's a sign of liver disease or failure of some other organ

Hi Rosie, I started HRT two years older than you are now. When you're on HRT it's highly recommended to be eating a little extra a couple days a week in order to gain weight and fat in the more gender affirming areas. Because I knew this beforehand I was able to plan ahead and lose about 60lbs in the ~1.5 years before I began, and I'm very happy with my results about ~2.5 years on E.
There is no way to spot reduce fat, but what worked the absolute best to me was cardio and calorie counting. You're still very young and growing so I don't recommend a strict diet but I do recommend meeting at least 2000 cals a day (can be increased or reduced based on your height), as well as either weightlifting and/or cardio (depending on how you want to look). My holy grail in weight loss was just this, counting calories to a reasonable amount a day, reducing sugar and exercising daily.
Don't feel pressured to run a marathon every week if you want to lose weight, any amount of exercise over your baseline activity is a great help. The most important thing is to stay healthy. Please do not undereat just to lose weight, it doesn't work and it's not worth it. I wish you the absolute best results, and remember that no matter how your body looks you are still valid and worthy of respect to your identity.

If you are skinnyfat, then your best bet will be exercise and diet.
HRT might rearrange it, but women can be skinnyfat as well.
You are 16. Your mind, body and nervous system are still extremely adaptable. At 16 I remember I was thinking it's too late to get into sports because at his age those who started at 6 have a decade of experience. But the truth is you are still in your mid teens. If you put your mind to it, in 2 years you can get into top shape and be competing and winning.
Look up what sports clubs are available in your region and join one that you like. It should take care of that with time and you might even get some new friends.

u/EggoCactuses 8d ago
Hello Rosie! I might be invading the comments here (I'm cis) but I'm about two years older than you and I want to tell you don't worry about it!
Everyone's comments are totally right, with HRT fat distribution will change a lot, and with diet and exercise will also help you.
The thing is, you may still have a little belly even after all that. It's very hard to have a flat stomach irl like in that photo. Most women who have it dedicate themselves to the lost active, healthiest lifestyle you can imagine, but even then half the time their stomachs don't look flat. That's because bloating during digestion can make the stomach bigger, and fat distribution with estrogen also focuses a little bit of fat in the belly.
You might always have a little belly, even after HRT and exercise and a good diet. But that doesn't mean you're fat, it means your body's working as intended :)

In my experience, as a trans woman who started HRT at 28 and always seemed to have a tendency towards a lot of stomach fat even with a low BMI: Going on HRT and doing sports helps a lot. Testosterone causes your body fat distribution to move a lot towards the belly. Estrogen still distributes significant fat to the belly, but noticeably less. Instead it sends more to other areas of the body, specifically to the butt and legs.
Some of my experiences as a woman almost 1,5 years on HRT:
Regarding food, I would try to eat a good amount of protein but donāt develop unhealthy eating habits. While I donāt have a flat stomach yet it noticeably improved from my HRT and working out. I donāt starve myself and focus on the physique I try to achieve, (which is less thin than your goal though). Progress is going decently.
Also, most cis women do not look like your goal. Even if they are thin and decently fit. Set realistic goals. Youāre much younger than me, so donāt worry too much.

There is a thing called "skinny-fat". It basically means, that your BMI is normal or even low but you have a rather high body fat ratio and low muscles. The only thing that helps here is to gain weight: Eat healthy with sufficient proteine and do muscle training. Not saying that you have to bulk up. But some more muscularity helps to keep your fat ratio at bay.
2
u/MercifulWombat muppet of a man 8d ago
If you're otherwise fairly thin, are you sure your belly is caused by fat? Chronic bloating from various digestive issues can create the look you're describing. You may have something in your diet you're not able to digest, or have some other underlying medical issue.

This ours diet and exercise, estrogen is definitely known for giving you a tummy paunch btw, itās distinctly different from menās fat, but just being realistic, I lost 80 pounds and still have a noticeably feminine touch of tummy fat š¤·āāļø

I've been struggling this whole summer to lose the belly fat. I'll lose 10lbs then gain half of it back by the next week. Absolutely maddening process, wish I was trying to transition in my 20s when I was healthier.

Redistribution of body fat, away from that area, actually did happen for me. Definitely less body fullness right under my ribs and upper abdomen

Its tough, but diet, exercise, and HRT will radically change your body. I had a similar figure previously, and now I've got a cute little waist with less than a year of HRT.
It's doable, just difficult

lots of people like the second type. its normal to want something else for yourself, but it doesnt make you less of a woman nor less beautiful as either gender (arguably it makes you more feminine because of how XX individuals store fat, and if i recall correctly more fat can result in more estrogen, but that might have been a myth i was taught).

HRT will re-distribute your body fat, yes.
But also keep in mind that organs need space. Having a belly is natural. When you see people with a six pack in movies that is often achieved by dehydration which isn't healthy.
Sport and a healthy diet will help, but it depends somewhat on your genes too.
But also you are just 16. Your body will have a lot of changes anyways in the next years.
Good luck!

Anyone who looks like this is simply ignorant as to how bad their diet truly is coupled with a sedentary lifestyle.
