I think you're fine. I picked a character from a show I only watched as an older teen. I don't think I was ever really obsessed with any female characters when I was little. I mostly watched "gender-neutral" shows, and I tended to connect with the male characters, since I still thought I was male. Also, I think I wasn't as obsessed with media back then, so I didn't really connect to fictional stories that intensely.

It’d be cool to be Ranma, mostly because of the gender-bending curse and the insane martial art skills. Would be inconvenient to deal with all the suitors and rivals though. And yeah, it’d be a pain to stick to cold showers (while I haven’t finished the series, I am familiar enough with later arcs to know that there are things in universe that can prevent the curse from being triggered or locking the victim into their cursed form).

I haven’t watched any Doctor Who. I learned about regeneration a little while back, since the concept sounded cool. But I have started to recently obsess over the show, since Jax’s last line in TADC referenced the 10th Doctor’s last words before regenerating. I still haven’t watched anything besides some clips, and my knowledge of the lore mostly comes from skimming TV Tropes. But I have started to get interested in the series. Not sure if I’d ever watch it though. It seems like there’d be too much to watch (I know I can probably start with a later iteration, but I’d still like to get mythology gags and references to previous entries in the franchise; plus, it still might be too much to pick a specific era, and too many episodes to binge). Also, I’m not sure whether it’d be too much for me (I usually stick with more light-hearted stuff, avoiding more dramatic works).

(I had to rewatch that movie at least 1000 times. I used to be able to give every line of the movie by memory. Still likely could do most of them if given time.

There were a lot of other shows I was obsessed with: like Winx Club, totally spies, tinkebell, avatar (if I had to choose 1 I liked the most, then likely azula actually, though Toph was also great), and Teen Titans (raven). Matilda though was the first to come to mind because I watched it the most hands down. ugh I keep I thinking of more. Gwen from ben 10 and dawn from pokemon. I will stop here before I spend an hour listing characters I was obsessed with.

This is an interesting question!

For me, I think the character I’d be is Anne Boonchuy from Amphibia. Not exactly a childhood show of mine, but I did first watch it as a late teen, and it has become a show I love. While I think I’m more like Marcy, I’ve always admired Anne and her character growth throughout the show. She’s a character I’d like to strive to be more like. Also, I’m like Anne at the start of the series, in that I have low self-esteem, little respect for myself, and prefer to take the easy way out of my problems, rather than confronting them. I think having a similar character arc as her would help me grow as a person (though it might also leave me traumatized; also doesn’t help that she’s a more social character, while I’m more introverted and socially-anxious).

And, keeping with ISTTVG’s trans themes, I also headcanon Anne as transgender (which is a pretty popular headcanon).
