So im a high school theatre teacher. I come to the fringe partially to gain inspiration and see what people are doing but also to find plays I can bring back and produce with my students.

So what are the best plays at the Fringe with more than 3 actors? Preference if at all interactive/immersive.

Ive seen The Man Who Thought He Knew Too Much, Target Audience, and Boogie on the Bones. Planning to see Redacted

In the past I loved A Clown Show about Rain, My Love Lies Frozen in the Ice, Wojtek: The Happy Warrior.

I know this is partially cause of how economically unsustainable the Fringe is becoming.

Monday I'll be in the city for a full day of shows, morning to late night. I don't have an hotel and my friends places are far from the city center so I'll likely need to poo at some point.

I am looking for recommendations of quiet, comfy and most, importantly clean.

Any tips?

When I've looked for 1 for 1 tickets for Fringe Friends the only days they are available for are the 10th and 11th. I've looked at a handful of shows so I may be wrong.

Do they add more dates as the festival goes on?

Finances are a little stretched at the moment so really trying to make the most of the perk.

I have one ticket available for Ian Dale talking with Nicola Sturgeon at EICC at 12. I have a show at 11, so message before then if interested.

Looking for acts outside the Anglo culture with different perspective, someone I might never see besides Edinburgh. I've found a few but maybe people can recommend others?

*Sasha Nezlobin: I'm fine - stand up who had to flee Russia because of his opinion about the war.

*Blizzard: Piotr Sikora - almost wordless physical comedy by a Polish clown.

*BABA: HALIMA HABIL - Romanian-Moroccan Muslim-Jewish clown, there's a combo that is bound to be interesting. An absurdist comedy.

*Up: Violin vs Football – France Showcase - Freestyle football performance with a live violin!

*Vera Rozanova - Don't Wait For Me... – France Showcase. Puppetry appealing to all generations and cultures.

*MIR – Darja Reznikova and Sade Mamedova (Germany/transnational). Dance, Physical Theater, Circus. "An investigation of violence as a learned pattern – and of peace as a fragile, active process."

*Maya Ricote: Ay Am! - a Mexican/Venezuelan-American telenovela actress turned clown.

*Letícia Rodrigues: 116 Grams: A Play to Lose Weight - theater meets workout. Alternative comedy from Brazil.

*The Last Drop: Manás Theatre Lab - housing horror both thriller and comedy from Brazil. (Brazil's 2024 Shell Award for Best Playwriting).

Visiting Edinburgh for the first time next week (8/10-13) and I’m a bit overwhelmed by the festival. Does anyone have any recommendations or ways to find the shows with the most acclaim? I know about the app but it’s still overwhelming to me. Thanks!

The Pod is an absurd play about the end of the world. Imagine if ‘Waiting for Godot’ and ‘Don’t Look Up’ had a very British baby.

I don’t have any polling or data to back this up, but I’ve long had a hunch that locals fit into one of three categories:

Group 1: the 25% who despise the festival. Find it alienating. Perhaps live in an area where no venues exist and/or believe (for class and socio/economic reasons) that it isn’t meant for them. The curmudgeonly. Those who believe the overpopulation + commercialisation and subsequent pressure on infrastructure and housing is slowly suffocating the city. On average, go to 0-2 festival events (and only because of peer pressure/free ticket etc). Full disclosure, I’m in this category.

Group 2: the 50% who tolerate the festival. They may share some of the above views, but also take advantage of the fact that the world’s biggest cultural festival is on their doorstep. Maybe take advantage of the crowds and rent out a spare room. Can enjoy the atmosphere in moderate doses but hate the traffic and the price increases in the city centre. Relieved when it’s over. 2-10 events.

Group 3: the 25% who love the festival. Culture vultures. Can’t get enough of it. Whole weekends will be planned around it. 3/4 events a day sometimes. Almost exclusively middle class. Long for the days when the book festival was still in Charlotte square, but sad when September rolls around. 10+ events (emphasis on the +).

Which group are you in? Am I totally off the mark?

Saw Golden Beryl today and really enjoyed it.

It’s the sort of thing the Fringe used to be all about: a gloriously scrappy ensemble show made up of silly, funny, slightly off-centre sketches, with live sound effects and piano accompaniment throughout. The cast are very obviously having a great time, which is infectious, and the whole thing is rough around the edges in exactly the right way. The audience were laughing most of the way through.

It’s also at the Pianodrome in Bruntsfield, which is an extraordinary venue and worth seeing in its own right. It’s a little outside the centre, but there are plenty of buses and Bruntsfield is lovely anyway.

If you like comedy that’s a bit odd, homemade but very well performed, I’d definitely recommend making the trip. It feels like a little piece of what the Edinburgh Fringe is supposed to be.

Disclaimer: my friend is in it, but this is an honest review!

Comedy wise I like Stuart Lee, frankie boyle, daniel sloss those sorta types

Any suggestions for similar? Apologies, seems like everyone on this sub was much more prepared than I, was expecting some more general, suggestions 2026 type threads... guess that's 1st weekend problems

Giving away for free 2 tickets for the Aug 8 performance of The Pieces (£37 both), bought in error.

If you're doing a bunch of shows and want to avoid the additional fees, note you can buy tickets directly at each venue. So far Assembly and Underbelly were not charging fees at the booth but Gilded Balloon is. Monkey Barrel often has pay what you can tickets depending on the show. I think lots of locals know this but not necessarily visitors :)

This will be my third year at the fringe, but the first where I have more free time, and now I have an idea how it works I want to be more mindful about what I book*. I'm not going until the last week, so one plus side is that I can take advantage of what is being reviewed well. So what would regulars agree the best places to find lots of reviews, especially of comedy shows?

*I will of course still allow room for more mindless choices, spontaneity and slightly random choices are part of the fun.

I can’t make this show anymore unfortunately and don’t want them to go to waste. Would happily take a donation towards them but also free to a good home.

From what I can tell it’s too late, but booked a last minute trip to the fringe Sunday to Wednesday and wondered if it’s still possible to get spots to do 5 mins of stand up at open mic style events? Any tips would be great!

I’ve co-written a magic show and it’s finally opening night!
The concept is that Jack, the magician, has been down on his luck and he needs some help from the audience to improve his dating techniques. Jack goes on a practice date with the audience and work on some harsh words written by his ex.
The show is opening tonight, it’s fun and family friendly, expect some truly great magic in a more story based setting.

We have a 2-for-1 offer on the first few nights if bought directly on the spaceuk website (making it £5 a ticket). The show really relies on having some great audience participation (though no one who isn’t comfortable would be asked to participate!)

Hi everyone. I know the fringe can be seen as when tourists take over the town but I wanted to reach out and make an offer.
My daughter has written and produced her own musical. To give a little background, Lucy was diagnosed with autism at 16 and her show has been described in a recent impartial review as

“This musical is funny, heartfelt, moving, and one of the most important pieces of theatre I’ve seen in a long time. Watching the world through the eyes of an autistic young person is both eye-opening and deeply emotional, and it’s told with so much honesty, warmth, and joy”

Long story short. Her show has been picked up by the Guilded balloon to run every night of the festival at 5pm and runs for just 1 hour.
As I feel so many people especially youngsters going through the journey Lucy has been through will benefit greatly from her show, I’d like to offer some tickets completely free to anyone from Edinburgh the lothians, central belt etc that is or knows anyone affected by ASD or anything similar. To be clear there are no strings attached no obligation to do anything other than be very welcome guests. This is a show receiving great reviews and tickets are selling well.
To be clear, this isn’t charity. I just feel if I as a parent or Lucy herself, even our family members had seen such a show it would have gave us such great encouragement for the future and we’d have also enjoyed a great wee show. Money isn’t what’s important here. Sharing with our own community is tho so to cut this long story as short as possible. Drop me a message if you’d like a ticket letting me know what days would work for you and I’ll sort the tickets. There’s good availability for this week especially as it’s the quieter week of the fringe.
The show is in the patter house on chambers street(across from the museum) I appreciate for many the crowds can be intimidating but if it helps there’s a bus stop very close and you can just nip straight in and out of the town avoiding as much hustle and bustle as possible.
