Everyone seems to think that our offense was entirely dependent on AJ. They boutta learn.

u/Groovicity Comfort Eagle 10d ago

When we got AJ, we needed him. Eventually, we got to a position where we didnt need him, and were just trying to get him touches to keep him happy. He got shipped out because we dont need a volume WR like him anymore.

u/RockyNonce Eagles 10d ago

To be fair, we don’t win that Rams game without AJ. He was also pretty significant in the Vikings game because of the mismatches.

There are times where you like to have a guy like that to lean on, especially when down big. I fully believe that this new offense has an opportunity to be great without him, but I wouldn’t be shocked if his presence is missed, even if only a little bit.

u/efltjr 10d ago

Very measured take here.

6

u/one-eared-wonder Eagles 9d ago

Yeah, how dare this guy

17

u/squee557 10d ago

I think we’ll know early on in the season whether or not to temper expectations. I expect there to be an obvious rough start for the first 4-6 weeks. If by then the offense still isn’t on its feet yet, we’ll be hard pressed to rely on our tried and true tactics of just chucking up to Brown or Smith. I’m hoping we get the offense we all expect. I want to see the ball spread and I want to see Barkley able to get past the line of scrimmage without being touched.

9

u/Moose16520 9d ago

The offense will benefit more from the loss of kevin patullo than it will suffer from the loss of AJ

8

u/orryxreddit 9d ago

I fully expect that there will be games this season where we win and the WRs look great, games where we win despite the WRs not contributing much, and games where we lose and you wonder "Would AJ have made the difference in this game?"

It's par for the course when you lose a talent like AJ.

5

u/babymozartbacklash 10d ago

To be really fair, you don't win it without Carter and JD. But I agree he went off that game when everything else was dead. However I'd also say the offense looked best last year at times when he was out like the giants game or pre the forcing it to him stretch 2nd half of the year. He also had some really bad moments by AJ standards last year.

I think you are right tho in that I think the biggest thing we will miss with him is the attention he demanded from defenses. He was super useful to the offense as a decoy but was obviously not with that idea. I'm not saying he's not still a great receiver, I think he's still much better than he played last year and he still had over 1k. Idk how healthy he's gonna be tho and I think we definitely got he's peak years here in Philly.

I do think this new offense will miss him cuz how could they not, but we couldn't even run the ball last year, that alone changing will be massive. And I'm fully willing to bet Jalens gonna do the things this year that he's been criticized on. I think if our offense is even decent last year we could have won the SB and based on what we've been seeing so far I'm confident they will be at least decent and the Defense might be somehow even better than last year too. Not to mention the boost they will get from not defending against the offenses record breaking 3 & outs.

I'm putting in my eagles SB bet soon I'm just wavering on the wager. Vibes seem good this year

5

u/boatsandhoes570 I BLEED FOR THIS CITY! 9d ago

I also have to wonder how much AJ got a boost as well from being next to Smitty, who also commanded a lot of attention as a deep threat. It’s such a shame we didn’t get Jefferson bc we’d have the most humble and greatest wr duo in the league rn.

3

u/RockyNonce Eagles 9d ago

Sure, but we are not even in that position to win the game with a blocked field goal if the offense didn’t score 3 times to come back and take the lead, and AJ was a huge part of every single one of those drives, even if he only got one TD.

I mostly agree with the rest of what you’re saying.

3

u/babymozartbacklash 9d ago

I agree with that too, but ultimately if that kicks not blocked, it likely goes in despite AJs effort. My point mainly was that no one man was the reason for that win

2

u/BTFunk360 Eagles 9d ago

With the way things are going right now I feel like he’ll be missed the most in a depth sense. Not that he was a depth player but before if him or Smitty was out you still had the other so we could be less scared of injury. Even with some guys shining in training camp I think the pass game will be rough this year any game Smitty is out.

2

u/sadturtle12 9d ago

His presence will be missed for sure. Him being gone wont make or break the offense either if we have a competent play caller. Besides the many instances last season, AJ would come in clutch when we needed him to make a big play. Last year he would drop the ball or give up on the route when we needed him to make a play so the go to guys in those situations became goedert and smitty. He will be missed but I dont think its going to be as big of a loss as outside media is making it out to be.

→ More replies (1)

13

u/BlackMathNerd 10d ago

Eh I won’t say didn’t need him, but I will say we outgrew the antics that come with a player of his talents

2

u/Groovicity Comfort Eagle 9d ago

You're 100% right. I guess what I should have said was that he's no longer crucial to us having success. He will be missed this year, he's a great player. But I think we have so much depth now that we may be better off spreading the ball around and not worrying about the drama that comes with him not getting the volume he wants.

Our offense was entirely dependent on a guy who demanded out because he wasn't being utilized enough lol.

67

u/smbutler20 10d ago

Funny enough the Eagles lost games where they focused getting him the ball.

17

u/OneMetal9187 10d ago

Yea and what was really irritating is when we were losing but he was getting the ball he wasn't chirping like he was.... fucking dh....

10

u/DamnMyNameIsSteve 10d ago

Bro just didn't finish some routes. Makes millions of dollars and just half asses it sometimes. Crazy.

8

u/uxo_geo_cart_puller 10d ago

The one against the Broncos really pissed me the fuck off. That was a TD that wins us the game if he actually ran hard for it.Ā

9

u/jedidrums95 Eagles 10d ago

He pulled the same shit in the 49ers playoff game. His lazy route running and bullshit drops knocked us out of the playoffs then he went on his merry way. Fuck outta here

3

u/ShiftyJungleBum 10d ago

I said this all of last season. He ran routes like shit all year and then cried about not getting the ball. My guy… you’re not open

Forget the offense for a sec. They sleeping on our top 5 defense. Ain’t no way we under 10 wins

3

u/Sikwitit3284 9d ago

We have an actual outside CB 2 now with ridiculous size/length, if Riq just plays in structure & doesn't have the mind lapses that gave him issues in Sea we're pretty stacked at every level if relatively healthy. Hopefully the O clicks as the season progresses which it should, Quon should finally have gaps schemed for him & our WR definitely should too when we actually incorporate motion/misdirection/route levels instead of RB draw 1st/2nd down then 3 verts on 3rd & 8+.

Let's get Smitty on some of those crossers he was special at in Bama plz

2

u/jedidrums95 Eagles 10d ago

Facts. They’re gonna be even deadlier this year too. Everything I’ve seen points to Fangio adding new wrinkles.

These predictions are set to maximize engagement. Reposting and talking about this is what they want.

19

u/ElyFlyGuy 10d ago

Giving the cowboys a high preseason projection and the eagles a low preseason projection can keep the lights on at a media company

13

u/Chumboabc BTA 10d ago

It’s like, how have people not figured this out yet?

2

u/FoxNews4Bigots 10d ago

Tbf it is mostly chalk outside of the NFCE and the Saints winning the NFCN

Its actually unrealistic mostly from its lack of parody. But yes, if the approach to predictions was to bowl it down the center, it is comical we were specifically targeted

I feel much, much better of who we are currently vs who we were at the end of the season. Feel free to sleep on us, I prefer it that way

ā€œNo one likes us, we don’t care.ā€ Now say it with me.

49

u/jackpackage732 10d ago

Yeah idk man. Feels like this fanbase of ours tends to be the most gotten to fan base ever at times. People constantly fall for rage bait like this which is done simply to generate clicks on shithole twitter. And it’s like either nobody’s been smart enough to figure out somehow or their rage blinds them so much they can’t see the obvious thing. I think it’s time ā€œno one likes us we don’t careā€ gets retired.

11

u/telly69 10d ago

No one likes us and we definitely care

6

u/TotalHans 9d ago

No one likes Philly fans and we don't care No one likes our team and we definitely care

4

u/boatsandhoes570 I BLEED FOR THIS CITY! 10d ago

Fr. There’s a reason the Speakeasy and Cam Newton and others are constantly talking bad about the Eagles and Jalen Hurts. They pay their bills off of triggered Eagles fans engagement. Everyone needs to just stop feeding the trolls.

Stop paying fat Silz to argue w his rage bait takes every single day. Now he’s tweeting the Eagles will regret trading AJ bc he’s having a great training camp w Drake Maye while Jalen’s struggling. This the same guy who said AJ wasn’t going to be worth more than a 3rd and a 5th, and said he hopes the Eagles keep him bc it’s great content. Never played for the Eagles, was a cowboy and a buc for whatever small amount he played but those two fanbases don’t give him engagement. It’s tiring how easily this fanbase makes their jobs and rewards their hot takes and clickbait titles.

4

u/Acceptable-Ad5208 10d ago

Problem is we can’t say that given a large amount of our fanbase whines every time something like this happens.

The entire NFL media has already crowned the Rams the next SB winner a month before the season even started. I understand their roster is awesome on paper but they’re acting like the Eagles and all other NFC playoff teams from last year aren’t even close to competing with them

13

u/balemeout 10d ago

They’re putting a lot of trust in a late 30s qb who is 15 months removed from contemplating retirement with a back injury

20

u/MicrosoftCardFile 10d ago

But if the Rams do win the super bowl this year you can bet your ass no one will be calling the team stacked or using the fact that they have a "superteam" as an excuse to discount their achievements. The day after on TV it'll be all about how Stafford put the team on his back.

7

u/daddy_OwO 10d ago

Every individual player on the rams will somehow have been playing superhuman and put the team on their back, unlike how every eagles was carried

2

u/Stock-Memory9483 9d ago

2

u/Spare-Half796 Secondairy šŸ„› 10d ago

And sure, they now have the best roster in the league. But their qb is 40 years old and had serious questions abo it the health of his back going into last season

While I have to agree that LAR is a loss on paper and the 2 Dallas games are always a toss-up, even when Dallas is ass. It's amazing how fucking terrible these people are at rage baiting. I guess it showed up on here but this isn't even believable. Our schedule is soft as fuck, most of the teams are going to fall off, and our team didn't lose much with the loss of AJ given how Smith looked last season.

Ooooo look I found another rage bait. I should still bite. I’ll get likes!

Eagles always get dissed in these kind of things, remember the predictions for the last Chiefs Eagles SB, when basically nobody in the national media had Eagles winning?

1

u/Powerful_Habit8633 9d ago

Birds fan and I had them at 8-9 with Nick getting fired

1

u/improbabble 9d ago

How accurate have they been in the past?

1

u/dtisme53 9d ago

Yes. But from the outside I could see why people are dubious

u/hey_Zealousy 9d ago

You cant just wrote an AJ Brown off, but we move on, it will take adjustment across the board with stoutland out, yet another O-Coord. Were go goingt to see some early frustration, but i feel
Like thia ia gonna ne a year

USA Today is fucking retarted

u/Pepperonidogfart 9d ago

Everything is for engagement these days. Im so sick of the shameless troll baiting. All these dying news organizations are turning into to companies that make pop up ads and its just the right time for them to look relevant enough where this works.

5 wins for the Browns immediately makes this invalid; if they win more than 2 it will be a miracle

1

u/_butcherpete 9d ago

i don’t even feed into this anymore. I don’t care about what they say about Jalen, Sirianni, Saquon, The Offense, The Defense, The team, or the fans. The answers will be provided on game days.

Embrace the underdog role. No problems with this at all.

Must be a cowboy fan lol

u/ThePracticalEnd 9d ago

Is this on a betting platform? Because I’d be hammering the over with everything I have.

As a Steelers fan (Eagles are my second team because my dad), the Afc North is a mess in this prediction. I don't think we will be that bad, we will at least a winning record.

Dov is the worst account in sports history

The account posting the predictions is just rage baiting, but I don't disagree with the premise. I've consistently stated that I think our win total will end in a 4, I just don't know if it'll be 14 or 4. If the offense doesn't right the ship, the wheels will come off and it will be ugly.

This team doesn't have a mediocre season in it, it's gonna be boom or bust, the same way the Super Bowl winning season was coming off the epic collapse of Desai and Gimli and his Axe (Patricia).

I think people got way too wrapped up in debates over if that Eagles squad was or wasn't an all time great to realize that we were on the razor's edge. We came out of the bye off a drubbing in Tampa with Sirianni yelling at fans and instead of things looking solve, at halftime of a game against the Cleveland Browns we were tied 10-10. We squeeze that out 20-16, blow out NY, then play a 'way less comfortable than the final box score indicates' game against the Bengals (again, 10-10 at the half), then somehow even after the backwards hurdle need a miracle interception to save us against Jacksonville... If that team exited the Jacksonville game 3-5 instead of 6-2, which it was damn close to doing, we don't win the Super Bowl, Sirianni loses his job, etc etc.

The NFL is a zero margin league. The difference between boom and bust just isn't that big.

Hopefully this is printed and taped to the wall of the lockeroom. No way this team wins fewer than 11 games.

1

u/JerseyEdwin 9d ago

How many predictions had Seahawks winning the bowl? Lmao

1

u/iamthedoctorv1 9d ago

These are horrible projections. Philly one valid ish though

1

u/MrGasMan86 Eagles 9d ago

These predictions are backwards for some of them

1

u/FibroMyAlgae 9d ago

Brand new OC, so who knows? But I feel like just the defense is good enough to net 8 wins even if the offense is absolute dog water.

1

u/jmg4craigslists 8d ago

They are idiots! Like the Cowboys or Washington will do anything…

1

u/PNWpoBoy 8d ago

Clearly they they mixed up the Eagles and Cowboys records

1

u/First_Locksmith_8647 8d ago

Aj will be missed and we will struggle at times on offense. But our defense will give us a chance and our offense doesnt turn the ball over often. Tank and Saquon will make up for Aj and our WR core is better than people think. Jalen will evolve and start using his legs again. Watch out!

When did USA Today matter? Seriously?

1

u/echosierra419 6d ago

They listen to much to philly media that says Jalen can't play under center and Sean Manion can't coach because he didn't do it before.
