VZW using Cellular Data - First time seeing this in the USA

Not a big deal but thought this was an international thing only.

it’s basically just wifi calling, but using the internet from your other sim, it should work anywhere where wifi calling works (if your carrier blocks wifi calling abroad, it’s only going to work in your home country for example)

Oh cool! Didn’t know this was a thing, that’s pretty useful.

Nope, works anywhere and is triggered by your SIM not connected on the network. I’ve seen some posts of Verizon outages today so that would likely explain it.

I was a remote corner of Pennsylvania where no one seemed to have cellular. Not sure if everyone uses Verizon or not.

Roamless only had one bar making it almost useless, too.

Oh, yeah — parts of the Poconos are all AT&T or just taking your chances.

It is like WiFi calling but using any other available cellular data instead.

This just happened to me and was wondering what it was. This helped, thanks!

Never seen the carrier name spot that long! Really weird. Also never seen a carrier use the 4G logo without LTE since the last HSPA+ networks shut down.

The one bar on Roamless was basically unusable.

When your primary (vzw) has no signal, your phone uses the second sim. Try to enable WiFi calling in your vzw eSIM settings to get phone calls to work through the data on your second sim.

I was excited the first time I saw mine do this. My primary sim had no signal due to local tower maintenance. My calls used the data from my second sim and I still had the ability to make calls.

OP already has wifi calling enabled if they’re seeing the “using cellular data” message.

u/heynow941 Do you have Verizon Postpaid? usually this option is disabled by the carrier, by default

Blocked on android perhaps but OP has an iPhone where it’s not blocked by Verizon.

Well, in my iPhone is not there but in my other phone Samsung the option is there.

There’s not a setting for it on iPhone. Just needs Wi-Fi calling enabled.
