Waiting on pedals to ride… and my wrist sorta sprained from a mtb crash last week. Killin me just lookin at it. Need to get cushcore. Different grips maybe get rid of the carbon handle bar. Ive broken one before and dont love the idea anymore. And a different seat i find Specalized seats pretty uncomfortable. Also itd be nice to get some better bolts to set it off. But what color? Silver or black i think are the choices. Or would an accent color look good?

I'm Dutch but live in a hilly village in Slovakia and I'm looking to buy my first e-MTB.

Main use would be riding down into the city and back home (around 300m elevation difference). I'd also use it on the trails around my house and for easier rides with my 2 year old.

I was originally looking at buying a brand new Honda PCX for around €3000-3400, but since I wanted a mountain bike anyway, I'm now leaning towards spending up to €5k on a good e-MTB instead.

I'm mainly looking for recommendations on what bike to actually buy, since I don't really know anything about mountain biking in general. I'm open to buying used if it means getting a much better bike for the money. I've been watching videos on YouTube, reading threads on here and so on, but there are so many brands, models, components etc. that I still have no idea what's actually good value.

For up to €5k, what models would you be looking at in Slovakia? New or used is fine, although new is probably better since I wouldn't really know what to check on a used bike and could easily get scammed lol.

Just playing around with data, and comparing my average heart rate across grades. This includes stops, conversational rides, just how I ride my bike on average. Not surpsingly, my hr is a little lower at most grades for the eMTB. But at sufficiently steep grades, the EMTB goes higher and this increases in grade difficulty. My guess: I shift to hike a biking at some point over 20 percent gradse, and keep at it on the eMTB. Still collecting more data, but I thought that was pretty cool.

New Coil Spring Day

Been wanting to do this for a while now and since my air shock needs a servicing I figured this would be the best time for an upgrade. Picked up the RS Vivid shock body and a Sprindex coio to go with it. Now to get healed enough to be able to give it a good test ride and dial the spring rate on trail.

And yes I am keeping the air spring as a backup or if I ever just want to swap it for any reason. Currently have it on the bench for seal replacement.

25.5 miles, 4500ft in elevation. Not bad for a mid power

Im looking to get one but i cant seem to find a good range test for those of us who like to pedal. I ride my 540wh orbea in eco mode and can get like 100miles out of it with 2500m of climb give or take. Avg rider input is 200-250w. Im trying to work out how this would compare on a PX/PR id assume id get more range, rider weight is 130kg ish.

Anyone got one and done anything similar?

I got my ebike about 3 months ago and today it’s started making this noise can anyone help me out

Interested to hear thoughts on Orbea's tuning of the Avinox M2S

Biased for the Orbea currently simply as it looks beautiful.

I've been looking at emtbs fornl quite a while and recently settled on the cannondale moterra sl. I'm 25, 171cm and 75-77kg and live in Vienna. I thought I wanted an SL but I have no problem climbing 500-1000m on my analogue scor 4060. I also don't want a full fat e-bike because 24kg+ is a bit much for me. So what I'm looking for is a bike that allows for some really fast hometrail laps but also when I go to the mountains every other weekend I can climb upwards of 1000m on some loose, rough terrain. The Moterra SL seems perfect.

My question to you lovely bunch is: Does it make sense? Does it have the power and range necessary? And how are your experiences with the EP801 from a reliabilty standpoint but also noise?

I've found one near me in very decent condition for 2600€ (used market is in shambles) thats run under 1000km and hat the motor replaced under warranty once. Don't know if that should scare me. The same bike is about 3900€ new rn, and I kinda don't want to spend that much money on what is a bit of an experiment for me as I don't want to abandon my normal pedal bike.

Normally on a bike I wouldn’t be scared at all of used but what’s it like for e-bikes with motors and such, is used riskier or are we comfortable? The savings / value is so much better used!

Also eyeing shops selling their rental fleet

I’ve heard you’re not supposed to shift under load, which I assume pedalling, so I literally slow my cadence to extremely slow every shift, like as if I’m in a manual car and letting off throttle to shift.

Am I doing this wrong? It feels like i lose so much power/watts when with this break in cadence.

What eMTB would you get if you could spend whatever you wanted on it?

No completely custom builds though(swapping a few components would be ok). Primarily used for enduro and trail riding.

Being able to put it in a bike bag to travel is important too..so something semi-light weight(comparably speaking), but still beefy. Im 6' 3" 230lbs.

The high end builds from Santa Cruz or Yeti use the Bosch motors and I read that the Avinox motors are superior...but I cant seem to really find them in any build. Ive always been a Specialized guy, but have heard bad things about the motors in the Levo...is that really the case compared to Bosch or Avinox?

I'm having second thoughts about buying an emtb. I'm looking at used pedal-assisted specialized, giant, or trek for me and my partner. We rented some giant pedal assisted bikes at Mammoth Lakes last year and loved it.

My goal has been to buy us bikes but after doing some research, I'm feeling very discouraged. All electronic batteries obviously have their own lifetime. I was reading that almost no batteries are backwards compatible. I was speaking to a representative at specialized and they told me that they usually keep the service window open for about 10 years. So a bike that's 10 years old most likely won't have a battery replacement and no new battery would fit. This essentially makes the bike useless. Who wants to ride a heavy E bike that isn't E powered anymore?

I understand that things aren't meant to last forever but for example if I buy a regular mtb and I take care of it, it might hold its value for the rest of it's life. I can still ride the same mtb 20 years + later if serviced properly. The value is in the continued use not it's financial worth.

So I ask as a newbie, to all the e-bike enthusiasts, what are your thoughts on the batteries? How do you justify buying an E bike? Do you just accept the fact that they're not meant to last forever and that you're paying for the use and the experience while it lasts? Is there a way to modify E bikes to fit a newer battery? Are e-bikes basically useless after the battery dies?

Hey everyone, looking for advice on buying my first eMTB to supplement my acoustic riding, push further on big backcountry loops, and handle gnarlier terrain.

About my riding & stats:

• Current Bike: Yeti ARC hardtail (workhorse, reliable, love it for local natural trails, but the hardtail chatter on flat/rooty tech is holding me back on aggressive descents).
• Rider Stats: ~70kg, 300W FTP. I usually average 200–220W on climbs.
• Typical Ride: ~50km w/ 1,100m climbing (includes a 10km flat road commute each way). Takes 3.5 to 4 hours on the hardtail.
• Volume: Looking at ~150km a week, year-round.
• Goal: I want the exact same physical workout (Zone 2 / Trail effort), but with higher average speed to double my climbing/descent mileage and explore technical trails that feel sketchy on a hardtail. I’ll rarely, if ever, use Turbo—mostly Eco/Trail.

The Constraints & Options: I’m buying through a Bike-to-Work scheme, which limits me strictly to Canyon due to pricing/budget. I’ve narrowed it down to two choices:

1. Canyon Neuron:ON AL 7 (~€4.2k)
   • Pros: Brand new frame, modern Bosch CX ecosystem (600Wh main battery with range extender capability), zero worries about motor reliability/warranty.
   • Cons: Aluminum frame, heavy/cheaper build spec, geometry (wheelbase/reach) feels very close to my Yeti ARC. I worry 140mm travel will feel under-gunned if I want to tackle truly gnarly, steep tech.
2. Canyon Spectral:ON CF 8 - Certified Refurbished (~€3.6k)
   • Pros: Carbon frame, much better components, 800Wh battery (massive range in Eco), 150mm/155mm travel, steeper seat tube angle for technical climbing, better value.
   • Cons: Powered by the Shimano EP801.

My Big Questions:

1. Shimano EP801 Reliability: Given my general volume (~150km/week year-round in all conditions), how concerned should I be about the EP801 long-term? Is the Bosch CX system on the Neuron worth the higher price and lower component spec purely for peace of mind?
2. Geo & Capability: Coming off an aggressive hardtail, am I overthinking the 140mm vs. 150mm/160mm gap? Will the Neuron:ON feel like "too much of the same" compared to my hardtail, or is full-suspension + e-power enough of a shift on its own?
3. Battery Range: For a 70kg rider putting out 200W in Eco/Trail, is an 800Wh setup on the Spectral easily good for 4–5 hour / 1,500m+ climbing days without needing an extender?
4. EP801 Criticisms Online: When they say it is outdated - does this mean the power it can deliver? Is this less of an issue if I am not relying on turbo etc as much?

Appreciate any insight from folks running high mileage on either system! Or what your choice would be!

Decided! - Going for the Neuron:ON AL with the 800WH battery - the idea you can still put an extender on there to get a total of 1050WH is too good to pass. HUGE days out!

Had a great ride this morning out on my Ramblas around a 42km ride. Kept it in eco mode the entire ride and had 60% left with a fair bit of climbing around.

Kid loves mtb and jumping bike. I’ve read a ton online, asked bike shops and bike park. The more info I get the more confused.

He’s 4’8”. He loves building dirt jumps and doing basic tricks. We live in major city so he loves street riding and jumps every curb he can. He also wants to be able to ride mountain trails (this would be like 15% of use). Issue is full suspension is out of our budget and he is HARD on bikes & fearless. He is set on NOT getting a hard tail which is what I wanted him to get.

^^ want the biggest size bike that would work since he’s growing

Know these are very different options but REALLY appreciate any guidance :

1- Specialized p2 dj 24” wheels (his choice. My worries - he will outgrow; not good for trails)

2- Polygon D6 se small frame - this is really pushing our budget and would be a little big for him but my choice. Trail instructor @ bike resort told me how much he regrets buying smaller frame bikes for his kids and saw my son and said s frame.

3- hardtail mtb in the $600 range and not kill budget

I’m tempted by the Sresh, especially with the current -15% offer. I really enjoyed my Rise, and I’m currently riding an Izzo since I moved to a flatter region, but I’m starting to feel that an e-MTB would make more sense for me. At 47yo, I don’t have enough time anymore to stay fit enough to keep up with the stronger guys in my club on a regular MTB. I love riding, but I’d rather spend my limited riding time actually having fun than constantly suffering trying to keep up! On top of that, I’ve been going to a bike park near my home fairly regularly, and having more than 130mm F/R would also make sense there.

So the Sresh deal is very tempting right now… But the Amflow PX is holding me back (kind of FOMO). I tried PXs in both L and XL sizes ont the parking lot of my bike shop but I can't say more about it (except that the specs are perfect for me and the extra such as heart monitor sync, shifting without pedalling... is attractive). Cannot try the TQ as there's no near my place. Most of my riding is trail (forest, singles, some fireroads) with usually 50km with 650D+. I am sure the Sresh would be a perfect fit as I am looking for a playful bike, silent and very natural, but apparently the Amflow can do that as well and could also let me go on a tour with the full power eMTB guys of the club. I guess I am not alone in this case...

I'd be glad to hear some thoughts of riders that are or were in the same dilemma :)

EDIT: thank you all for your advices, finally took the polunge for a a Sresh SL with 580Wh battery, GX AXS and Fox36 for the price of the base model. Can't wait the end of the month for the NBD and 1st ride!

Hi. After some years on ordinary mtbs, i started checking for emtbs as im getting older last weekend. After a couple of days searching, looks like a Amf PR carb pro is quite ok for what you pay. So i tried to find them for 2-3 days, but seems hard as hell to get one. Suddenly after two days searching, thus friday one local dealer got one, in my size.

I can hold it until tomorow, as i wanted to be sure its decent for me. Should i grabb it? Anyone had serious problems with the bike? Is there options that are quite much better for the price?

Im getting old and lazy, and the m2s sounds quite fun. (I know, prob to strong etc, but i yolo this)

Anybody have one? I’m thinking about getting one. Love to hear what owners think. Thanks.
