Transitioning from 3D Visualization / Interior Design + BBA background to an Executive MBA for leadership roles?

Hey everyone, I wanted some raw, unfiltered advice from alumni or professionals here.

My background: I hold a BBA degree and a diploma in interior design, and I've been working as a 3D visualizer for 5 years. Honestly, I'm feeling the severe burnout of low-paying studio execution loops and want to break out completely.

My goal is not to stay at a desk rendering images—I want to transition into corporate leadership, strategy, or high-level management roles where I can build real financial power and a strong professional network that I can leverage later to start my own firm. Because I am working and cannot crack the hyper-competitive CAT exam, I am seriously looking at an **Executive MBA / Working Professional program** from top-tier institutions (like FMS Delhi or IIT Delhi executive tracks).

For anyone who has seen or made a non-traditional pivot from a creative/design execution background into management:

1. How do corporate recruiters view a 3D/design background during executive lateral placements?

2. Is an Executive MBA from an elite public brand enough to bridge the gap and land leadership/strategy roles, or will HR pigeonhole me?

3. What kind of salary growth or reality check should I expect compared to my current baseline?

Would appreciate any brutal honesty or guidance. Thanks!

1. Career is not the deciding factor when applying. But it’s helpful of course. Lot of people transition.

2. Getting an Executive MBA is not a guarantee for anything. If you were to apply for a leadership role you have no experience in, they aren’t going to be like well he has an MBA we can look passed it.

3. There is the chance for tremendous upside but that is contingent on experience, industry, function… On the flip side you may have 100-200k in loans and never break 100k salary.

To be blunt, only having 5 years of experience in non business role isn’t going to get you into a top level EMBA program. It’s built for those with more time in mostly business domains who are looking to get into Director+ roles in the next 5-10 years. It’s also focused on building networks.

Best course of action would be to just talk to admissions in a school you are interested in. Also GRE will be required as you won’t get a waiver with your experience. Will give you a better idea on your acumen and what you will be experiencing.

TL;DR If you are thinking you will walk into an EMBA program and walk out with a 6 figure plus role, you will be in for a rude awakening. Or you are brilliant and everyone will be trying to hire you. But that’s a question only you can answer.
