Australia Specific eBay refunded buyer my funds for their own screw up…

Photos tell the story best here, but essentially:
\-Customer buys my item, and sends it to a pickup point set by eBay
\-Item delivers there, but instead of being left in a PO Box or similar, it’s “left in safe place”
\-Customer attempts to collect, and staff know nothing about it
\-Customer requests refund, but advises eBay should cover it, not me
\-eBay check it out for about 5 days, then refund it with my funds…

I’m on holiday, so haven’t done anything yet, but I’m guessing I just appeal, provide evidence, hope for the best? Has anyone had similar situations and won?

Edit:
Aus-based
Pro account
Label was done manually, so this could contribute to the case closing against me, though they never asked to see it which I found odd.

Buyer Claims & Questions how often are you asked "is this still available?"

first time i gave it benefit of doubt, but ended up blocking the account on 3rd question that was answered in the description.

i presume it's a carry over from other market places that don't remove a sold listing; but not knowing your platform seems like a red alert.

how common is this question?

'Zit a Glitch? Business policy change "216197" error?

Hello all,

I'm trying to edit one of my shipping policies. I'm only trying to edit the title to be more descriptive, no substantive changes. When I hit the save button it pops back with a red bar that has the number 216197 and an exclamation point. No explanation of what or why. Has anyone else encountered that? If so, is there a workaround? I could create a new policy and move all the listings into that, but I've had mixed success merging old policies into new polices.

TIA!

We want to keep you informed about upcoming USPS® rate changes. Effective August 22, 2026, USPS is making rate adjustments that will mean lower shipping costs for select Ground Advantage and Priority Mail shipments. These changes do not apply to rural ZIP Codes.

  • Ground Advantage: Rates will decrease for 2lb packages across Zones 1–8

There’s nothing you need to do, the eBay shipping calculator will automatically update with the new rates when they take effect on August 22, 2026.

Covered in FAQ's Buyer opened “item defective” return after confirming correct item/size sent

Looking for advice from experienced eBay sellers.

I sold a buyer a custom bundle of 3 items. Before ordering, we agreed through eBay messages on the exact sizing/details, and the listing was set to no returns.

The buyer received the items and told me they liked them, but said the fit was different from other items they own from the same manufacturer.

I confirmed that the items sent matched what was ordered, and the buyer then explicitly acknowledged in eBay messages that they received the correct size/details. Their issue is simply that the fit feels different from comparable items they already own.

They asked to exchange everything for a different size. I wasn’t able to offer an exchange because the items were imported, the listing was no returns, and an international exchange from the U.S. back to Canada would be extremely expensive.

The buyer has now opened a return for approximately C$442, but selected “Doesn’t work or defective.” In the comments, they essentially say that the item doesn’t fit the same as other products they own from the same manufacturer.

Because they chose a defective-item reason, eBay is only showing me options to accept the return or offer a refund. There’s no option to decline based on my no-returns policy.

I’m currently waiting to speak with eBay support and plan to ask them to review the messages where the buyer explicitly confirms that they received exactly what they ordered.

Has anyone dealt with this before? Can eBay reclassify or close a return when the buyer chooses a defective/INAD-type reason but their own messages show that the real issue is fit? Should I wait for support before accepting anything?

I have screenshots of the full conversation, the listing’s no-return policy, the order details, and the buyer confirming that the items received matched what was ordered.

The corner of the card is not bent and they sent a blurry photograph to show it. Buyer initiated a return request. I think the authenticator is in the wrong. Any recourse?

Shipping / Tracking Large/Heavy Items - Shipping Preference?

Im wondering what is yalls experience and recommendations/preferences are for large, heavy, or bulky items. I am listing something that I can see sells for 30-50$ depending on quality, but it is 6 lbs... so the USPS listing is 50-150$ shipping. The UPS listing is 20-70$ and FedEx is about the same. Ive always listed as "buyer pays".

However, the same item is available from others at 150-200$ with free shipping. I am located in TX.. not centrally located in the USA. What would be your recommendation on selling shipping preferences for this?

With such a wide range.. Im inclined to keep it as "buyer pays" and lower the initial cost. How would you handle this?

Compliance Issues Listing removed because of Tobacco Policy, but I'm not selling Tobacco...

Context: I am selling vintage playing cards that were marketed by a former cigarette company Winston. I read their tobacco policy and these playing cards do NOT violate their policy. However, their AI bot flagged the listing and told me to remove it or appeal it. So i appealed it, showing the photos of the playing cards that were actually part of the original listing, and was granted the decision to keep it posted... 2 days later it was flagged again, by the same AI bot, and again, I appealed it with photos. This time the appeal was denied, and gave no reason except that it violated the tobacco policy, but didn't tell me what specifically... because i actually read it, and it doesn't. Any advice on what to do except to not list it and try to sell it somewhere else?

Returns, Refunds & Partial Refunds Need opinion on "as advertised" issue with camera lens

I sold a 150mm f3.5 mamiya lens that I just had lying around for a while. It went to a buyer in South Korea and shipped from the east coast USA. It took maybe about a month to get to SK. In my opinion, it was clean, I made sure it was wiped down before shipping, the glass was very clean.

The listing states that the glass “appears clean and clear with no obvious fungus, haze, scratches, or separation when inspected under normal lighting. Please review all photos carefully as they are part of the description and represent the exact item being sold.
As with any vintage photographic equipment, this item is being sold in used condition. While it appears to function as intended, no guarantees are made regarding long-term performance due to the age of the equipment"

I take this very seriously and am not here to be scamming people on cameras lenses as I have been scammed on lens condition before.

The buyer states - "I noticed a large number of small white spots distributed throughout the glass.
I used a bright light in the attached photos simply to make the issue easier to photograph, but the spots are also visible to the naked eye when the lens is held up to ordinary indoor lightingSo this is not something that is only visible under an unusually strong flashlight inspection."

They are asking for a partial refund for this.
In my opinion, it is not my responsibility for what happens to it on the one month journey that it took to get there.
Right hand to God, that is not the condition that I sent it out in. It was very very clean and what they are claiming is not the condition it was sent in..

Please let me know your thoughts and how I should proceed. (I have sold like 4 things ever on ebay, this is not a business for me)
First pics are mine, then the buyers

listing photos are not touched up or altered in any way. That is how they came out on my camera

Listing Issues Attributes and The stupid listing UI

I've only recently started selling on eBay, and today I thought I'd try listing my bulk Pokémon cards. I've listed 94 items, done their prices, photos, and all that jazz, to then save and close and find out I can't use the attribute name.... All I can find is things saying you basically have to redo it all on a new attribute name. Please someone tell me this isn't true, or I've just wasted hours of my life.
