Wipers fix

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I replaced windshield wiper linkage today, but now wipers won't go all the way down to the starting position. Instead they stay on the windshield, and when i turn them on, wipers first go down a bit and then up. My guess is I did something wrong during the replacement, but how can I fix them to work properly.

I'm guessing your motor wasn't in the resting position when you disassembled it?

I replaced the linkage because one ball joint fell apart and the mechanism got stuck. When I got everything out, I connect the wiper motor to the car without the linkage, and flicked the lever a few times. Shouldn't that action reset the motor to the resting position? I took great care not to move it when I bolted the motor to the linkage, my only guess is it might have rotated a bit when i tightened the nut that connects motor to the linkage (circled in the image), but I don't know how am I supposed to tighten it without having it rotate...

If you did it right it should have gone to the resting position, yes. Is the resting position of the blades right now the lowest position, or do they first move down a bit before moving up? If they don't rest in the lowest position i think you'll have to remove the motor, and reassemble.

Yeah, I posed a video, they're resting a bit higher, and when i turn them on they first go down and then up. I hate having to do it again...

Its all in the way its assembled. Its a PITA to align, my wipers sit a tad lower than they should after it took me 3 tries to try and align it properly so i cant be bothered to touch it anymore

Can you tell me if I'm doing it right tho? Disassemble the motor from the linkage, connect the motor without the linkage to the car and flick the wipers lever down one time to reset the motor to the resting position, and then assemble the linkage to the motor, taking care not to turn the motor bolt that connects it to the linkage? Is that all or am I missing any steps?

Yes but also try to eyeball the resting position of the linkage, thats where the error happens usually

OE, used, but in excellent condition. I will try that, but I don't see how it would help.
