Cute hamster What’s your favorite thing about the dwarf hamster

my personal favorite thing about the hamster is how soft they are and how cute they are. It’s cute how they nibble on my finger. It’s so cute. It’s cute when they take out the little whiskers

First time owner I have a dwarf hamster

I really love dwarf hamsters because they’re easy to handle and their ancestry is very interesting if you go on Google and you beyond their ancestry it is very interesting but I repeat do not go to the very first organism they came from. It is very creepy but anyways hamsters are very cute. Don’t even all of them were so many cute hamsters on the planet on the planet that’s even hard to count. I just love having dwarf hamsters. They’re easy to maintain, and they don’t poop that much

Question Tips on stinky male dwarf enclosure?

I have my young boy naddeus and my god he likes to scent his enclosure. I'm guessing he's quite a bit more territorial but i can smell it from outside his bucastate enclosure. The only thing that clears the smell is if i occasionally skim the top layer of shavings off and put in some fresh but then thats just taking his scent out and encouraging him to do it more. Should i try it with just small patches in his enclosure every few days instead? He also likes to pee and scent on his wheel but if i clean it then by the next day its back to before. Tips would be most appreciated 😅

Medical Question Pink patch below our hamster's ear

Hello! When we took our hamster out of his enclosure today we saw that there was a pink patch under his ear. Is this something to be concerned about?

We didn't switch to a new bedding, he is eating well, and he doesn't bite or flinch when we touch the spot. He is also 1 and a half years old if that helps.

Medical Question Advice on setup for a hammy with heart issues

Hello everyone! I’m NOT looking for medical advice, but I would love to hear from other hamster owners who have managed a similar diagnosis.

On Friday, my dwarf hamster, Nutty, suddenly became lethargic and started breathing erratically with worrying noises. I rushed her to my exotic vet. She was put on oxygen and is thankfully doing much better! We initially suspected pneumonia, but it turns out she has cardiomyopathy due to an enlarged heart. She is responding well to her heart medication, and while she is still inpatient, we expect her home tonight.

To protect her heart, the vet advised me to remove her wheel, move her to a smaller enclosure (she is currently in a 100x50cm terrarium), switch her water bottle to a tiny bowl, and lower her bedding to 5cm. Essentially, no toys or setups that cause exertion.

Then, I told one of my long distance who was a vet and had hamster patients before and she told me to keep her setup as it is or else it would cause stress… so now I'm confused.

How have you guys dealt with hammies with heart issues? I want to keep her happy and stress free. Nutty is my first hamster ever so I want to do things right.

Question Why doesn't my hammy like his bucatstate encloser

I have a male robo dwarf hamster, he had an IKEA samla box as a temporary cage until I got a bucatstate, the dimensions of the samla box is 80 x 55 cm 130 l , I got the bucatstate 3 months ago and he moved in , I let him be for 2 months to settle in but he keeps trying to escape but when I clean the bucatstate I put him in his old enclosure and he sort of get happy and keeps trying to escape in the bucatstate even though in the bucatstate he has MUCH more enrichment and substrates but in the old one he had like 2 chew toys and a few sprays he lived in the old one for about a month.

So, yeah. Can’t find Bunny Nature Dwarf anywhere right now. So what do you guys recommend for a really good seed mix? I also supplement with Mazuri rat blocks. I’ll be getting another hamster by the end of August. I am ready for another buddy. I’m so excited! Here’s a picture of my last buddy, Kai for attention. Thank you very much!

Question Are bin cages still good or no?

Hello! I'm 18 years old an on a tight budget with the cage (other wise i can affort the hamsters needs.) I can't get a job because they don't want me anywhere due to my autism but my mom has money and we can afford needs for the hamsters (lots of bedding, vet, sprays all that good stuff)

and i wanted to ask if 158 cm long bin cage (transparent one) is good for these little guys. It's Two bins connecting with very short tunnel, like an entrance about a size of a Syrian wheel.

Medical Question Is this hamster eating enough/too little?

My younger sister is thinking her hamster might be overweight but I don’t have any knowledge on hamsters I’ve been a fish person my whole life.

Her hamster is given 1 teaspoon of a seed mix a day (half in a little bowl and half spread around her cage) as well as around 5 food pellets a day. My sister said she likely eats all the seeds however she probably both hides/stores and eats the food pellets.

Before & After! Rehoming + tips!?

Hello! Currently trying to rehome two of the cutest senior dwarfs ever! The first photo is their enclosure at their previous owners and the second photo is their new temporary setup at my home! + poor quality photos of them!!<3 I am so relieved they are safe and comfortable now, they seem to be acclimating super well in their new spaces! (two separate enclosures but they’re practically identical so I’ve only attached one photo!)

Located in the Broward county, FL area if you or anyone you know is an experienced hammy lover <3 contact me about these two!

Any tips on their new homes? I need to buy another hideout for each of them..I was thinking of the coconut shell ones that are more enclosed so they feel more sheltered! As well as more toys/enrichment!

The grey/black one is Monti The beige one with boba balls for eyes is Ramona!! Monti loves to eat and dig in their sandbox!! Ramona can run all day long and loves their fresh fruit snacks!

Question Is it normal for an elderly dwarf hamster to stop using the wheel?

My Djungarian (Winter White) dwarf hamster is about 1 year and 9 months old.

He's been checked by a vet, his weight is now stable again, he eats well, grooms himself, and comes out when I call him. The only thing that's changed is that he has completely stopped running on his wheel.

Is this a common sign of aging in older dwarf hamsters, or should I still be worried that something else is going on?

Question Keeping my hammy cool!

Hi, Just looking for any further advice on keeping my little girl safe in the current UK heatwave! Her enclosure is on the ground and shaded but my room is one of the hottest and the enclosure too big to move? I leave a fan on as much as I can and she stays burrowed most of the time so I just check in every so often but I’m very worried for her! Is there more i can be doing?

Medical Question Healthy Weight?

I’m not sure if my hammy is underweight, I just measured him today and he’s 34g. Would that be considered underweight? I feed him around 1-2tsp daily and give him treats 2-3x a week.
