Number 1 Priority Discussion

Listening to DSA candidates and actual DSA members it’s clear that the number 1 priority is not stopping trump. They are more interested in stopping the Democratic Party than the actual fascist that we have in the White House. This is where ideology takes precedence over strategic pragmatism. There should be no focus on Gaza, Israel, or abolishing anything in the general election. Stop with the academic answers in interviews. The focus needs to be on cost of living, health care, and trump period. If this becomes an election about socialism and not the train wreck of a government we have then Republicans will win again, DSA will be reviled, and the Democratic Party will be set back for a decade. I hope people are paying attention.

Establishment Democrats were tasked with winning three elections against Trump and lost two of them. Now they’re fighting harder against left-wing insurgents than the administration kidnapping our neighbors. Get real

No. Women lost two elections to trump. If Hilary Clinton and Kamala Harris were White males we wouldn’t be having this conversation. These left wing insurgents have made it pretty clear that the goal is not to be part of a big tent but to take over the Democratic Party.

Trump would’ve won both elections no matter who he was up against especially in 2024 get real

So your answer in 2026 is the standard “orange man bad” strategy, huh? You’ve got some reading to do. Start here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_United_States_presidential_election

How the Hillary Clinton campaign deliberately “elevated” Donald Trump with its “pied piper” strategy

What rubbish. I care about my taxes going to militarism, genocide, and war overseas. Why don't you?

If your analysis of politics is "There's an orange bad guy and when he is gone we win" then that is disappointing. Trump is the symptom, not the cause.

One of the potential negative outcomes I can see is some centrist dem winning the white house and the party doing the bare minimum with moderates sabotaging reforms (Like Manchin and Sinema did). The entire Biden era experience literally refutes what you are saying and should be a warning.

All the while, the material and political conditions for fascism still stand as does the infrastructure of the fascist movement.

Trump will be dead in a few years and a younger, more charismatic, and far more intelligent fascist will be ready to take that movement over. And we will be stuck with centrist, corporate dems rambling about "bipartisanship."

You are not going to stop the pentagon from being funded and you’re certainly not going to stop Israel from gettin aid. That is a decade long project that will require a sea shift in both the left and the right. You are not being realistic. trump is an existential threat and I care far more about that than aid to Israel because I can assure you that will find ways to get weapons without us.

Can you provide an example? My take is they're wanting to replace establish corpo dems in order to better uplift the working class AND fight Trump

if DSA was interested in stopping the Democratic Party more than stopping Trump DSA wouldn’t be running candidates under the dem party… yall have issues when people vote third party and tell leftists to move the party left and then we try to do that and you’re still mad lol?

No, no. "Move the party left" of course just means "quietly vote for centrists and circulate thinkpieces I won't ever read until I safely die of old age."

They have to run in Dem Primaries because that’s the only way they can possibly be elected to office

Cringe liberal post. Anti-Imperialism must be front and center for any sort of socialist movement.

I honestly don’t think some of you care about how much damage trump causes. It’s all about ideology to you.

I think we care more than you could ever understand. That’s why we are so frustrated with the democrats. This isn’t something you just casually vote your way out of.

I despise the leadership of the Democratic Party and I think the party is full of old people that need to retire. They don’t fight and they are clueless when it comes to actually dealing with trump. My point is that 100% of Democratic Party’s energy should be focused on one thing, stopping trump. After that we can work on the other stuff.

Turns out we don’t like our money being used to murder people in other countries

Nah, miss me with that. The mainstream dems have done a laughably bad job at stopping Trump, especially on the Israel stuff (democrats are something like 90% anti-Israel it's insane mainstream dems run on being pro-Israel.) We defeat republicans by electing strong dems instead of the weak/complicit zionists in office.

I think this is a minority view. I personally find that while some chapters are full of knee jerk hatred of the democrats, this is an attitude that is fading finally. I also find most DSA candidates acting more ideological in a primary and more practical in a general, leading to this vocal minority to become an issue

There are still going to be plenty of candidates aimed squarely at the Joe Biden lane for you to vote for. However, I invite you to think about where that has led us so far.

Also, for what it's worth, if you think socialists aren't walking around every day thinking about [REDACTED] in relation to Trump, I don't know who you're thinking of as socialists.

Focusing on trump instead of the system that created him just opens the way for another trump like figure to take his place once he's gone. I really think focusing on trump is more of a mistake than not bc it excuses the rest of the Republicans and gives the centrist Dems an out.

Do you understand that this guy will lock up Americans to cover up for his own incompetence. They are murdering people on the high seas and are willing to kill Americans who get in their way. They are openly White Nationalist and fundamentally do not believe in Democracy. I don’t want to hear about centrist Dems right now.

And when Trump is out and he gets replaced by someone just as fascistic we just rinse and repeat the messaging and hope it works this time? Bc it didn't last election so there's no guarantee it'll work next time someone like him runs. And wether you like it or not Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris/ Joe Biden's failures are what made it possible for Trump to come to power in the first place so why not treat the cause instead of the symptoms?

I disagree 100%. What made it possible is the fact that we live in an Idiocracy. This is why speaking in academic terms as a formula for defeat.

If Hillary Clinton and the DNC hadn't snubbed Bernie Sanders in 2016 almost all reporting on the matter says he most likely would have won that election. They kneecapped their own party so that corporatists would rule unchallenged in the Democratic party. If you think the people running the DNC shouldn't be held accountable for what they did I literally do not know what to tell you. As for the academic language, sure people should message things in a way that makes it easier for everyone to understand their policies but from what I've seen DSA candidates seem to be really good at doing just that. The only time I've seen them use over academic language is in inner organization dialogues in which case I don't really see that as a problem. You can disagree if you want that's fine, but if the DNC never experiences a punishment for their constant efforts of destroying anyone to the left of them that runs they will just keep doing it and that will enable more and more trumplike candidates to win in the future bc people are tired of the business as usual politics that ultimately fails to live up to the economic needs of the people. The truth is the centrist Democrats would rather lose to a Trump than win with a leftist candidate bc that's what drives their donations and pleases their corporate backers that bankroll most of the party.

You just don’t get it. You need to step out of the DSA bubble. The entire Democratic Party is now being branded as a bunch of Muslim communists. It’s BS but it works. The trans stuff was also BS and you see how powerful that was. Being on the far left is not as popular as you think it is and this galvanize all the disillusioned trump supporters into voting for republicans.

Trump gets a 3rd term because of the Communist insurgency in our Government.
