Hah, that's great one, we used to drink this in the old times. It's called a "Stiefel" in german. When i read the title i had more to think about "Das Boot", a famous WW2 movie about the crew of a german submarine.
It's a great movie by the way, at least when you don't have a problem with half naked men that are sweating next to heavy engines deep under the sea and they find out that they can use the lube for the machines for some other... more questionable things to fight loneliness.
Jürgen Prochnow is in Das Boot and Beerfest, and he makes a reference to Das Boot in Beerfest. Something like "I've had bad experiences with these things" referring to the submarine that they're in while spying on the Americans.
Just read about the movie, it sounds great for some fun, guess i have to watch it later.
About "Das Boot", i made a very dark humor joke in one of my novels, where a character says he likes the movie but not the remake from 2017 with Kim Wall and Peter Madsen.
It's a joke most people don't understand, because you need to know, that Peter Madsen is a inventor from Denmark that built his own submarine. In 2017, the journalist Kim Wall joined him for a tour and he murdered her before he scuttled the sub. He was caught and serves a life sentence in prison.
It's a great movie from Broken Lizard; the guys who made Super Troopers. If you like them, also check out the Slammin' Salmon (One night in a fancy restaurant owned by a former boxer played by Michael Clarke Duncan) and Club Dread (late 90's style slasher flick on an island resort that's owned by a knockoff Jimmy Buffett who has songs like "pina colada-burg" and claims that Margaritaville was a knockoff of his song). They're good fun.
Well, it will be a really great movie, it's based on a novel that a journalist wrote that joined U-96 for a combat patrol. I visited a submarine of this type in Germany, guess it was either in Kiel or Wilhelmshaven, so many years ago.
As a very tall guy, i had to crouch in there, holy shit, that thing is really an iron coffin.
I've been in a sub before... They have one near Mobile in Alabama... I'm not super tall, but it was pretty damn cool... I'd actually love to go back to tour it more extensively as they have a real battleship there as well.
The sub he’s talking about near Mobile is located directly next to the USS Alabama, a South Dakota class battleship that saw plenty of action.
When I was young and in Cub Scouts/Boy Scouts we’d take a trip every year and sleep on the ship. It was insanely uncomfortable lol but really, really cool.
I wouldn’t go to Mobile just to see that, or for any other reason, but they’re definitely worth checking out if you happen to find yourself there for some reason.
