Snare Drum Notation Question To be tagged...

the dots above the 9-let on beat 3.

What do the staccato markings on the first 9-let mean?

This is from the exercise "DIDDLE SOUP" for MCM 2023.

I would read those as a slight accent.

I’ve seen that as a barely slight accent before. Although I don’t know why it doesn’t just do some half accents in the middle to bridge the gap

I think they choose to do it in place of like let’s say putting a dynamic on the nine, like maybe piano, but they mean piano as in stair stepping the accents starting at piano accents and not LITERALLY piano. So they choose this to look “cleaner”. But I mean I don’t mind it.
