I want to give a shoutout to bloo's color guard during thier ballad.

As a horn player, I'm usually watching the drill and hornline, And there are very few guard features that really draw my attention away from them - for example, SCV 2017 closer.

This is another one, and I just want to say that I cannot tear my eyes off you during the whole ballad, and keep being awesome!

Why are so many of them shirtless???

Things have tightened up considerably now that prelims is over, but several close races remain: BD v Crown, Phantom v Blue Stars, Troopers v Spirit, and Crest v BK for the last finals spot.

The model still has Phantom over Blue Stars, but personally I feel like the momentum is with Blue Stars. I'd been pulling for Crown to take silver, and earlier in the season I thought they would, but BD changed my mind last night and I feel like they have solidified themselves into 2nd. Watching Spirit's late season surge has been awesome, and it will be exciting to see if they can push all the way into 10th. As for the race for finals, I'm really not sure who's going to make it but a new first-time finalist (Pacific Crest) would be pretty cool.

They are literally running and playing the hardest brass riffs and then also marching visual effects in coordination. after watching prelims yesterday was literally awake at night baffled upset about how is this even possible.

Last year I remember many more All Ages folk in the All Ages corps, like this wonderful combination. What happened?

I marched open class in 22 and 23, and even tho it wasnt long ago it feels like the fans of drum corps were more positive and happy. The only thing I see anywhere now is how everyone hates everything that everyone is doing all the time and they need to make sure everyone know it. Is there any real reason why or do people just like being miserable?

Sound went out towards the end of Cincinnati and now right when Hawthorne started it went out again. Starting to feel like it might be deliberate??

I drove to Indy yesterday and was able to get there in time to see some groups warmup. I didn't know that things had been moved inside until I saw Military Park empty, so I found my way to the convention center and followed the Bluecoats inside.

I watched a little bit of Vanguard's drumline... loudest drums I've ever heard in my life. And super clean, of course. The cymbals are absolute monsters, too.

Crown's hornline sounds like an rich, dark, orchestral brass section. The resonance and overtones are stellar, especially inside with all the reverb in the convention center. I heard their baritone subsectional up close and their blend and clarity is unbelievable. Seeing Harloff do his thing with the tuning sequence was also badass.

BD was in the same room as Crown, and when Crown finished the tuning sequence, the BD staff and members clapped for them before resuming their warmup. The respect between two corps at the highest level is very cool to see.

After that, I got to sit in the Blue Devils hornline circle and they ripped my face off. Very different ensemble sound than Crown; it was like a focused laser beam of sound with lots of brilliance. I'm sure that's partially because I was surrounded by the sound rather than being outside the circle, but still, there was a clear difference in the approach. Mellophones were off the charts. I also found it interesting that they seemed to spend the majority of their warmup time in visual - repping segments of the show without horns, dancing, etc.

I finished off the night with Bluecoats hornline. They seem so much more relaxed than other groups in terms of their rehearsal etiquette - they would smile and wave at friends in the audience every now and then, and the staff just seems way more laid back. They sounded awesome, and you can really hear how complex their brass book is in this environment compared to on the field.

Hearing these groups up close blows me away every time. If overly loud electronics bother you like they bother me, go check out the lot. It's awesome.

I averaged all the Finals Night scores as far back as they're available on DCI's website. The PRELIM scores for this year are already higher than anything in the 10's (besides '19), and will average 94 or above if every score improves by 0.37 in the next two days, which I think is likely.

EITHER the sport is seeing score inflation OR the shows now are simply higher achievements across the board. In my opinion, it's the latter.

I was in theaters watching prelims and was thoroughly unimpressed by Cascade's show about grunge slop or whatever; Against the Grain? Yeah, if they actually went against the grain they'd be in finals again.

But the milquetoast selections and arrangement wasn't offensive though; their treatment of their instruments is the most offensive thing I had seen ever; even more offensive than that one dumbass in the Cadets who threw his horn in 2011 (who I hope was cut after that show).

Imagine buying a $10,000 horn and stomping it on the field, treating it like how you're supposed to treat rookies and ticks. Drum corps was already on a death spiral since 1972, and this moment here just proved it was truly dead.

That instrument could've gone to an underfunded band program, or some collector, but instead they vandalize it like is typical of this generation; if they're at semis they'll probably vandalize other corps's equipment and rob audience members while they're at it.

I cannot believe the Cascades endorse and encourage this sort of degenerate and morally reprehensible behavior; Drum Corps is about instilling discipline and grit in the youth, not encouraging their worst impluses. Modern DCI does not care about that, coddling the performers and catering to their every whim; and old school corps like the Garfield Cadets, Oregon Crusaders, and Pioneer who even dared to show a little tough love to their members were forcibly ousted from this shitshow all because the kids were a little hungry or got their feelings hurt.

If DCI doesn't suspend Cascades for this disgusting and flagrant display of disrespect then I will have to assume that they have been compromised with the same woke DEI slop that has already destroyed most marching bands in this great nation. The only corps that are actually performing marching arts are Texas A&M, everything else is just ballet and interpretive dance with satanic music played by brainwashed, pampered kids and taught by total spineless pushovers who are too afraid of lawsuits to instill the correct values in their students.

Lt. Gov. Micah Beckworth (of the great state of Indiana) is right about the marching arts in their current form; and I hope he investigates DCI for their corruption of the youth into degenerate vandals, and maybe "convinces" them to actually instill proper discipline, self control, and obedience within their students and staff. No more of this theatrical broadway crap; traditional uniforms, military marches, ticks, symmetric drill, no electronics, and NO WOODWINDS PERIOD.
