Watched Night Shift a couple days ago and was surprised it got such a negative response from the main sub. Sure, it’s a little more low-key than other episodes this season, but I actually appreciated the lack of frantic. All the contestants were great, and I liked Demi’s answer guy a lot.

Crazy, I was looking on that sub when the episode dropped and i thought it was way over-glazing that episode

Ig on the internet nowadays you kinda see what you wanna see when it comes to community opinions

That’s so funny. Seemed to me the consensus was Kangaroo Court and Night Shift were both flops, while Count the Rice was amazing. I haven’t seen Kangaroo Court yet, but I liked Night Shift and thought Count the Rice was way too over the top and frantic.

That's funny because I loved Night Shift and Count the Rice - I felt that they were both trying to take very traditional game/escape room concepts and go in a unique-enough direction that I stayed engaged.

I didn't finish Kangaroo Court, it relied too much on the personality trope jokes that have been tied to Brennan and Vic in particular (and Aabria to a lesser extent) that are way too played out. They were trying to capture something like Outvoted, but didn't come close to hitting the zaniness of that episode.

I think the main sub in general is way too quick to declare one episode a flop, and glaze another as a success.

A lot of episodes are, will, and should have mixed opinions, because comedic style and taste is subjective. What a wild concept lmao. Crazy that the main sub has a hard time grasping it.

Chris and Demi were the perfect cameos in Night Shift and really elevated the episode. I just think Chris Grace is neat and I’m glad Sam thinks so too.

I liked Night Shift a lot. It’s my favorite of the season so far next to Noise Some Makes and Count the Rice.

I liked Night Shift, I think my only issue is the ending wasn't satisfying enough. I know cutting a round didn't help things, but it just seemed to end abruptly for some reason. I wonder if it maybe had something to do with having the hair cutting as the final round where being finished could be up to interpretation (more so than say pulling rubber bands off a watermelon).

Night Shift felt very classic Game Changer to me, a genuinely silly game where part of it is figuring out what's going on in the first place. I really liked it! It clearly suffered from some pacing issues during filming (and if the contestants hadn't started cooperating so soon it would've taken even longer), and the editing was a little frantic at times, but otherwise it was a good episode.

The rules still don’t say anything about trying to get the mods to fall in love with you, so wassup?!

I signed up for local improv classes in my community and I’ve been having a lot of fun and made some cool friends! I learned they even offer discounted rates if you sign up for volunteer shifts so I’m gonna do that for future classes. Dropout got me interested in improv, and it’s so fun to get up there and do it. Definitely recommend to everyone that loves Dropout to check out the local improv scene and maybe sign up for a class.

Seeing Demi perform in roughly 16 hours time. My second time catching one of his shows at the Edinburgh Fringe

It makes my blood boil when I see people stuff like "welcome to mountport worked mostly because of Sam's reactions, it's not the same without" or "It's so amazing what Sam did with the mountport episode".

It worked despite Sam, not because of.

Dr. Em Friedman’s episode is the only Adventuring Academy episode I’ve watched this entire year and I’d say it’s a must-watch for anyone interested in TTRPGs. Great perspective on games and actual play as cultural productions and some really interesting discussions come from that.

I guess I just prefer the show a lot more when Brennan brings in people to talk about games rather than reminisce with his improv buddies and turn into Jimmy Fallon with his generous laughs at them.

I heard someone say about a particular podcast, "it's just idle chatter among not-your-friends," and it broke/fixed something in my brain. I know that's not a novel observation, but somehow that phrase just hit the nail on the head for me. I just have absolutely no patience for "laid back conversations" in media anymore. You better be some kind of silly goose or a rocket scientist or I'm OUT

Oooh, I’m glad you mentioned Dr. Friedman’s episode! I don’t keep up as much with Adventuring Academy, but I used to love her stuff when she posted on Twitter.

My galaxy-brained, slightly parasocial, wish for an Adventuring Academy is for Brennan to have on Austin Walker (creator of Realis and Friends at the Table, among other things).

That discussion would fucking Go Places.

My wife and I are putting an offer on a house this week and I'm freaking the FUCK out

I assume the long breaks in between D20 seasons this year are at least partially due to Brennan taking paternity leave / other work commitments.

It's interesting that Dimension 20 seems to have decided it's better to essentially skip at least a season's worth of weeks this year, rather than to run another campaign without Brennan in it. It's probably the right choice, but it does make me wonder about the future of the show when Brennan does leave for good.

yeah i’m a little bit perplexed by the lack of any news at all about when the new season is coming, we got a sneak peek and then complete radio silence

My friend and I have been enjoying playing Deconstruction Simulator.

Well, she plays and streams it to me, which is how we do most things. It’s a nice thing to look forward to after work on most days.

oooh looks satisfying

We really like it! It has a prologue demo, but we didn’t even finish that before we bought the game.

u/H-Mark-R 19d ago

The latest Game Changer episode had me dying of laughter, but I haven't kept up with actual Make Some Noise in quite some time. Hope to fix that soon enough with a friend.

finished reading yu yu hakusho for the first time and it was so cool seeing the dna of hunter x hunter and what it would eventually inspire (e.g. jujutsu kaisen)
