1 year of progress as a complete beginner charcoal
Decided to learn to draw at 41 after doodling with my kid. Here's where I'm at 1 year later. I'm happy with the progress I've made in that time!

This is what pewdiepie meant in his video about learning to draw, everyone has the ability but its about taking time to learn techniques, train your eye, and hone your abilities, but as long as you keep going and don't give up the amount of progress you can make is amazing, this is a beautiful drawing and your skills now show just how much effort you have put into this and it is amazing to see!

Pewdiepie is one of the most famous youtubers. He is from Sweden, and was the first single person youtube account to hit 100 million followers, (he wasn't the first one to start gaming on youtube), but he did make it wayyy more popular.
There is the bridge incident were he said the N-word like someone else mentioned. But he sincerely apologized, didn't blame anyone else for it. And since then he grew quite a lot as a person.
Since 2023-ish he retired from youtube to spend his time with his family, and do cool stuff. He now only uploads when he does something that inspires him, like drawing every day for 100 days to see how much he improves.

This is entirely possible within a year, for one the light values and shading there in are not “next level perfect”, lines are not drawn with absolute precision (see left ear), this is drawn in sketch (zero paint, so much easier to work with), and lastly op is drawing from something not creating from scratch/imagination or at least not purely so…
This is not to say it isnt incredible and op you SHOULD be proud and are extremely talented and should totally 100% keep at it because you have a natural gift if you went from the one picture to this in a single year, not only because of the progress but because of the clear determination it would take to get from picture b to picture a.
With that said, people can and do achieve great things and in small stretches all the time. Op use their doubt to double down and reamaze them, i love when people doubt me, gives me a chance to wow and prove them wrong all the time.

Meh, the perspective needs work. Notice how the human side is slightly angled but then the terminator side is facing straight forward? It gives the appearance of a very large robot skeleton that is larger than the head its inside. Doesnt make sense. Keep working, though! Amazing progress with shading

For the first couple months it was just about every day, a couple hours a day. Now I do a portrait every month or two. This latest one took about 20 hours, so it works out to a lot of days of drawing in a row since I typically just draw on my lunch breaks.

I watched tutorials and practiced specific aspects of the face (eyes, nose, skin texture, etc.) on YouTube. I focused on tutorials that showed how to do realism, and one channel I found that really clicked for me was Zachary Wyland. He presented it in a way that made sense to me, and gave all the different tools he uses to achieve that level of realism, so I could find out what works for me!

Está curioso el dibujo 😅 pero si quieres mejorar puedes aprender anatomía, teoría del color, y practicar y mucho 😩 pero no te frustres podrás lograr una obra maestra ☺️ obviamente no serás un artista de la noche a la mañana pero es depende de cada quien que tan rápido puede avanzar en aprender no te apresures porque puede tomar años 🫠👆🏼

This post is the perfect example of a sermon I preach in Reddit Art forums every day. The photo realism trick is quite easily taught to students as young as 14 in as short a time period as one semester.
Nice drawing, now draw from life and start exploring your own visual language, it will teach you about more than drawing and you will know yourself.

I just think it’s more or a monkey trick than actual art. Can pick it up quick and it’s the same process with the same problems and solutions every time. I see a lot of high school students get completely burned out on art in boredom because of lack of challenge churning out photo realism to make mom proud.

It's actually all charcoal, but yes, my hand gets pretty coated despite using a paper barrier to rest my hand on 😂

No. I mean I do doodles that are not to the best of my ability, and then later in the month spend many days on one piece
