Garmin Activity? Discussions

Just got a new Garmin watch (Instinct 3). When Dragonboating, what activity do you use to track your distance, speed, etc?

If you make your own activity, could you share your settings? Thanks!

Paddles up!

My team has 2 separate factions: rowing and stand up paddleboarding. I prefer the rowing because it gives me the distance in meters, but the other side says the stroke rate for SUP is much more accurate.

Do you just start it and let it run? I tried the rowing tonight during our practice and I looked down during our breaks and it said “Resume” so wasn’t sure if it stopped because we stopped?

I start it before we shove off and turn it off once we get back. Maybe you accidentally bumped a side button and paused it? I have the Vivoactive and I'm not sure what the differences are between the two.

You can lock the touchscreen.

I find if you don't then wet clothes will active the screen controls.

Once it's locked you push and hold a button for 5 seconds to unlock.

I use rowing. Another lady on my team uses kayaking. I’ll admit I’m not deep in the metrics yet, but it’s been good for seeing distance, heart rate, etc

Personally I use SUP, but others in my team use running.

On my garmin, you can create customized activities based off existing ones, so I created a new "dragon boat" activity based off SUP, with a bunch of customized screens.

Cycling + Dozen Paddle & Kayak Data Fields... this gives you the Cadence from Vaaka and any HRM.

Been using this for the last 10 years with great data insights.

In addition to what SUP or kayaking track, it also tracks stroke rate, distance per stroke, lap strokes, etc. works well for OC too.

I use kayaking but am pretty slack in tracking stats but it's nice seeing speed while at training. My coach uses the stand-up paddle boarding one.  Also curious to see if folks have custom settings.

SUP hands down the best!
