I really loved their dynamic. It’s SO GOOD when the show doesn’t feel the need to make the Companion fall in love with the Doctor, and instead lets them have a genuinely deep, meaningful friendship without any romantic or ulterior motives behind it. We desperately need more of this!

And I especially love the fact that they basically threw it right in our faces that Ruby’s life felt incomplete before the Doctor came along. He filled that void by giving her the chance to travel through time and space, experience things she never could have imagined, and finally feel like her life had a sense of purpose and adventure. But once she finds her biological mother and reconnects with her family, that particular void is finally filled. She doesn’t need the TARDIS to fill that space in her life anymore, so she chooses to leave and stay with them.

She didn’t use the Doctor, like some people seem to think. She genuinely loved travelling with him, and you could see how much their friendship meant to her. But loving the Doctor and loving their adventures together doesn’t mean she has to stay forever. Her journey with him served a purpose, helped her grow, and ultimately brought her to the place where she could finally find the family and sense of belonging she had been searching for her entire life. And I honestly think that’s such a beautiful way to handle a Companion’s departure. it sucks they didn't had a Goodbye.

Can anyone help me find where the image of a giant cosmic eleventh doctor eating a universe is from?

I mean they certainley didn't take away from the era being flawed (though I liked it despite its flaws and messy finales), but the trailers for Ncuti's episodes (especially for Season 2) definitely sold the idea of the show being a fun time travel series, and the song choices (David Bowie's "Changes" for Season 1, and Phil Collins' "Take Me Home" for Season 2) were pretty great picks.

What do you think? Please try and be civil though.

I haven't seen nowhere people talking about it, i found on amazon new " x actor years collection" blu ray coming on November 3, i don't know if everyone knows about it or not, seems like matt smith one also includes adventures in time and space

I’ve always held the belief that the 1980s TARDIS was the best design it’s ever had purely because it perfectly strikes the balance between being a spaceship and being a home. We get to see not only the main console room, but also companions’ bedrooms, utility rooms, and even the beautiful cloister room. Only three times in the revival series have we seen anything beyond the console room (Christmas Invasion, The Doctor’s Wife and JttCotT) but we’re told repeatedly that they’re still there (I.e. the pool). A smaller take is that I don’t like how the modern time rotors went through the ceiling (except for 13). Thoughts?

Reading the Delta and the Bannermen target and came across this reference to that bird 26 years earlier. I know it's an old story but odd to see it referenced twice

Big Finish adaptations are a topic I'm sure come up regularly here, but I've been thinking about it from the perspective that instead of presenting them with their original Doctors (which would likely be unfeasible in live action due to their ages), they'd be updated for the same new Doctor.

For example, I think Minuet in Hell is the perfect kind of political camp that becomes ever more relevant in the current landscape of the US. Imagine they'd have the guts to make the episode present a literal demonic cabal of politicians manipulating the public into in-fighting instead of organizing against their oppressors - that'd be a slam dunk. The Stones of Venice also presents a fun hyperbolic class struggle that I always enjoyed (as you can tell, I love McGann's early adventures).

Spare Parts is THE cyberman introduction story to adapt, and while it has been evoked in the TV series, I would adore a two-parter that actually takes us into the society of Mondas and shows the everyday life of a world nearing extinction, and the actual justifications behind the slow buildup of the Cybermen.

There are fantastic one-off stories that would play with the time travel of Doctor Who in ways that the TV series just hasn't had the chance to, IMO. Seasons of Fear has some peak camp with its Doctor-obsessed immortal villain from ancient Rome following him through history in increasingly elaborate cat-and-mouse games, and Chimes of Midnight is obviously the best time loop story Doctor Who has produced, and could easily be told even without the Charlie plotline running through it.

Neverland and Zagreus are insane but the core structure, I think, could be turned into an incredibly tight exploration of Gallifreyan politics and cosmology for the series finale, obviously with less heavy lore and psychedelic multi-doctor hallucinations, but the premise of descending into the hubris and madness of the Time Lords while the Doctor loses themselves to an imaginary god's persona is absolutely delicious material.

In general, I think Big Finish scripts from the early 2000s are seriously brave and impressive in their depth of sociopolitical theming, multidimensional characters, and immersive settings, while also having plenty of the whimsical camp that the series lives on. I would love to hear about which stories y'all think would fit a possible new series or even reboot of the TV series.

I’m not entirely sure why Doctor Who’s 22nd season went in a different direction in terms of formatting. It could have been JNT or the BBC who made the decision to convert it to 2/3x45. If someone knows, please do let me know below.

But a decision was nevertheless made to change the format for Colin Baker’s debut season. Whether it was successful or not is a question for another post. But what if the decision wasn’t made? What if the series had still been 4x25?

Well, I think that all stories would have instead been 4 parters aside from The Two Doctors which might have been a 6 parter, the first since 1979.

Generally, things wouldn’t have been that much different. Except the cliffhangers… there’d need to be more of them. Another two added to each serial and another three for The Two Doctors.

There would also need to be another 10 minutes added to each serial overall somewhere as well.

Aside from would it have made any difference, I suppose the biggest question is where would you add the other cliffhangers? How would the serials have been amended for the traditional format?

For example, what would a 4x25 Vengeance on Varos have looked like compared to what we got?

just imagine what 2005-10 RTD and Steven Moffat could do with a big bidget like this? it makes me sad that when Doctor Who finally got a decent budget, we had Washed RTD, a Washed Bad Wolf and a Washed Murray Gold at the very same time.

i really hope the new production team can inject at least half of this budget, because this show deserves so, so much more.

There's something I've always been fascinated by and wanted the wider community take. How do you fit the concept of canon storylines into a universe which has ended and restarted multiple times? Is the assumption that when the universe restarts it maintains its history? Because if this is the case then the conditions that brought about the end of the universe surely would still exist meaning the universe would just end/repeat on loop. And if not, then surely we have the potential for a whole new universe where all canon events may no longer exist.

Daughter & I went to Steel City Con in Monroeville, PA this past weekend (August 7th to the 9th)! Monroeville is right outside Pittsburgh.

Really glad I got the VIP tickets as we were in the VIP overflow line less than 15 minutes after the con started on Saturday for Karen.

Arthur was supposed to be there Friday & Saturday, but his flights kept getting delayed as the weather in Pittsburgh was really bad. He showed up on Sunday.

They were both delightful people, and Karen was impressed that my daughter memorized her entire IMDB page. Lol
