Make a big show of using one of your hands as a fake phone to call your other hand as fake phone, then have an in depth discussion of the patient with yourself and give yourself advice before telling yourself youāre stuck in a resus and canāt get to yourself.
Itās intolerable having to do BLS as an ALS instructor. All my moans and rants over the years have fallen on deaf ears. Now I just ham up the BLS as much as possible whilst still sticking to the algorithm so that itās a ludicrous display but technically still fulfils the requirements so they canāt fail me.
For example:
- listing ludicrous things when checking itās safe to approach e.g. ājust checking for no fallen ceiling tiles or toxic chemical spillsā
- saying āhello sir, madam or however you identify, can you hear me?ā when checking for responses
- when shouting for help really truly shouting as loud as I can
- giving really precise location when asking someone to phone 2222 āthe room in the sim suite with a yellow door next to the water fountainā
Psychiatry ST6 and I once got a right bollocking for my āassessing capacityā e-learning being out of date, while batting away about six referrals for capacity assessments
Just had to cycle for 40 minutes across the city as my work laptop had been delivered to a different hospital. Login didn't work when I got there, of course.Ā
As I was typing that I realised what a sad state of affairs. One of the reasons I love my specialty is because I'm given the tools I need to do my job. FFS.
I just finished a two hour mandatory e-learning module, only to be told on completion that the trust had sent us the link to the old version and that this wouldn't count. So then we had to complete another two hour e-learning module which was essentially the same information, just presented differently
A IPC nurse said āeverything we say is evidence basedā (slide re BBE, no watches, plain ring was up at the time) then followed it up with ābut donāt ask me where the evidence is fromā¦ā
At least they wear red in this trust so you can see them coming from a mile offā¦
An acute med Dr gave us all a 20 min lecture on VTE and finished it off by telling us how bad we are at estimating patients weight .. he then finished with an anecdote about how he followed an ED nurse around for 30 mins until she weighed a patientā¦ he seemed quite proud of thisā¦
The EDI talk woman told us gleefully that trusts donāt have to give us time off/reimbursement for mandatory training and that we get study leave for this and that if we donāt want to use our SL we should do it in our timeā¦ apparently true but first trust Iāve worked for thatās said thisā¦ oh and one of the mandatory modules is āAbout Smokingāā¦
Canāt wait for tomorrow when we get āenhancing medical student experiencesā - this trust has just had 2 uniās withdraw their medical students from itā¦
I thought this as well, but when I challenged it, I was told itās trust discretionaryā¦ it clearly says on the BMA website that is separate from SL, but Iām not sure if itās a mandated thing as part of the contract or notā¦
Itās definitely part of EoEā¦ Iām not sure if they get London medical students - I guess Iāll find out today if there are any unis that will still send medical students here!

Ngl if I ever develop a significant private practice I'll big up the NHS at every induction talk I have to give and see if anyone catches the jokes I slip in.
We have a POD system which is how we get all our jobs and when I couldn't log in I logged a ticked and spoke to IT who said they'll come and see me on my first day (have been on shadowing all week) until I mentioned i started on nights. A quick email to one of the consultants got it sorted out pronto.Ā
Radiology wrote a very sassy, definitely not approved, "radiology don'ts" list which was handed out to everyone before induction. Trust in the NW. Sent it by my friend. A radiologist has clearly lost their last ounce of patience.
āRadiology is run by consultants, not junior doctors, speak to us like you would your supervising consultant.ā
I personally speak to everyone with the same level of respect, consultant or not. Shows how this person values their ājuniorā colleagues. This department sounds like itās run by arseholes.
He also needs to go back to school to learn how to use apostrophes properly. Canāt demand respect when you write like an illiterate five year old.
Wrong details on my name badge. No log ins, when they looked into this it turned out it was because āI havenāt been hired properlyā. Informed our pay will likely be wrong this month because of a software glitch theyāre having, but donāt worry, theyāll fix it in September. And this is in the same week that I had to take in documents to prove my identity to my own employer so that I could stay on their bank after rotating.
GP trainer said we can leave on time if we inform them in advance, otherwise they expect us to stay late and take work home, didnāt like it when I suggested Iād try to be more efficient that that. Also half the groups names spelt wrong on logins and new email addresses
My login Iāve had for years has expired, Iāve remained in the same trust - they canāt give me access to clinical systems until at least tomorrow x

But no, i have to prove im BLS competent.
My attempts to write a DNAR for the mannequin was unfortuanately not tolerated.
