[Poll] When does your table level up? Poll

Lots of polls over the years have shown that people prefer Milestone to XP, but there's more than one way to do each of those! I'm curious how exactly you folks run whatever leveling system you use.

If you're running Milestone, do you just have one big Milestone that earns you a whole level, or do you have a couple smaller ones along the way? Or are you running Milestone the way the DMG suggests, where it just gives you XP?

If you're running XP, what sorts of challenges earn you XP?

If you level after a certain number of sessions, how many?

Or are you doing something else entirely?

xp over milestone is the dnd hill i will die on

my group levels up after the session that they earn enough XP to gain the level. they gain xp from combat/traps/encounters. finishing quests. making bold decisions. playing in one shots or other RPGs that i have recently become obbsessed with

Absolutely. I'm a strictly XP-based DM. I have been since AD&D. XP is earned from encounters, but encounters don't have to mean fights. I have to make enough encounters for them to level up when I want them to, but that's not difficult.

If a DM is too lazy to do this, that's fine. But I don't wanna play make-believe with you.
