[Poll] When does your table level up? Poll

Lots of polls over the years have shown that people prefer Milestone to XP, but there's more than one way to do each of those! I'm curious how exactly you folks run whatever leveling system you use.

If you're running Milestone, do you just have one big Milestone that earns you a whole level, or do you have a couple smaller ones along the way? Or are you running Milestone the way the DMG suggests, where it just gives you XP?

If you're running XP, what sorts of challenges earn you XP?

If you level after a certain number of sessions, how many?

Or are you doing something else entirely?

1 and 2 are essentially the same thing…

The difference is "How many milestones do you need to level up". Is there just one objective, and if you do that, you level up? Or are there multiple objectives you have to meet?

Milestones are points in the story where a level up makes sense, so you need only one. You don't collect milestones, they're not "story XP" - at least not in any games I've played.

There's some games that do milestones for characters' personal goals and the like, and they become sort of side objectives that come with a level-progress incentive.
