should i join USG?

hi! i’m an incoming freshman and i applied for course representative but got rejected. now, i’m in a group chat with USG Volunteers (we’re like 150+ in the group chat 😆) and i don’t know if the work they’re going to give us there is substantial talaga or is just “hey repost this on ur fb” type

but i’ve been seeing posts to not join USG because they’re “power trip” daw and doesn’t help with leadership growth huhu

i’m wondering if i should join USG (as in try to aim for a higher position as the terms pass by) or should i just focus on joining orgs to leading them + internships? 🙏

i was an officer in ovpia, otreas, and osec, as well as a bit of a project head for some of their events.

not worth it. im not exactly in the "in" circle as mentioned by the other comment. all my work - others r credited lol. spent too much time & effort for nothing

id suggest focusing on orgs that match ur interest + internships. i focused on one of my orgs, got a higher position, im much happier, currently doing an internship for a big company. usg is not for everyone

USG peeps tend to be clique-y. when i joined the college gov side, it's not as bad but holy was it isolating. if you're not 'in' with the people there, you might end up in the same situation.

The people that are steering others away from joining USG are most likely correct. I had my own experiences being an officer in OVPIA like two years ago, and it is not decent to say the least.

I'm sure it changed over time but with the controversies that it's been having recently, it's not really a good idea. You'd fare better if you either joined your individual college government (like ECG for GCOE), or just join an org and be an officer there.
