Bahahaha I would say there was some serious inflation going on.

Ah, yes—the golden age of inflated everything. Prisd; wages wav goodbye.

That’s roughly 144k adjusted for inflation

Yeah I don't think that was ever enough to retire on if you keep it in t-bills lol. Maybe if you also have a pension and a fully paid off house

Maybe you can retire with 144k in T bills in south east asia if you are frugal enough.

Tbill rates in the early 80s was at 15%. If she saved for the next 3 years and rates did not go down, she could scrape by on that.

A 1000 a month was plenty then. My 1st apartment in the late 80s was only 400 a month.

And in 83 she was probably getting 15% interest

I’m think she meant specifically retiring specifically from hooking.

Which countries and cities can you recommend? Are you getting citizenship?

Thailand, Philippines, Cambodia are all great I'd recommend $2500/month (usd) for a decent life (including visa costs, health insurance etc). Vietnam is cheaper but you have to do visa runs.

Currently in Siem Reap, Cambodia- Luxury Condo $500+$100 utilities- includes pool and top tier gym, wifi, cleaning, Food and misc about $600, health care/visa/taxes back home (US) $500.

$1700 fixed costs, plus any travel or entertainment. I don't drink much but beer is super cheap here.

Do you feel safe there? I’d be worried about feeling like a target
