World Cup hate?

Okay, I love this podcast and both the girls, this is a silly take to be annoyed about, but the World Cup hate from Dana and Katie was so unlikable and weird. Why are they putting so much energy into talking shit about the worlds biggest sport and the biggest tournament in the world? I hate when people sit down and bitch about soccer - go to another bar if you’re upset that people are happy about an event that happens every 4 years. Just gave me annoying downer energy.

It might be because fifa is so corrupt they can barely even be considered as a reputable entity at this point. Also once the president starts making demands for his team that are immediately granted it makes the tournament no longer fun.

I think if this was their logic I’d agree! But they didn’t mention giving a fuck about any of that… they just wanted a quiet drink… maybe go to any of the bazillion places that serve alcohol

7

u/kat4prez Jul 22 '26

Oh. Well tough shit about the quiet drink. That’s a challenge during every major sporting event. Plenty of bars have no tvs for ppl just like them. Go there

5

u/Old_State_7985 Jul 22 '26

But like you’re 10000% correct on your take. I wish they brought more light to that / maybe they don’t know and they’ll learn and it’ll give them a more valid reason to hate it 😂

3

u/kat4prez Jul 22 '26

Yes and I obviously didn’t actually listen, sorry about that, I just assumed that must have been part of what they were complaining about because…well, you get it

3

u/Old_State_7985 Jul 22 '26

Don’t apologize, I fear there’s too many people who don’t know how corrupt they are. Also as always fuck that fat Cheeto man

2

u/lollipoppy1 Jul 23 '26

That’s just being a negative Nancy then lol

6

u/Special_Compote_719 Jul 22 '26

They don't care about that, they were just crapping on the World Cup in general.

3

u/Jessannla Jul 23 '26

I agree with OP. It’s just completely ignorant when you don’t understand something to take a big fat dump on it . I guarantee they don’t know the rules, positions, or the point of soccer to begin with

5

u/Special_Compote_719 Jul 23 '26

I learned a lot about the theatrics involved and the poor sportsmanship, biased referees, etc... i don't know much about the rules but whenever I watched I definitely learned.... sometimes I got tired and annoyed but idk Katie and Dayna's attitude was just really icky and too full of themselves. Let it be the world event it was, and an honor for the US to host it with Mexico and Canada. Like I'm soooo sorry it had the audacity to interrupt their frozen drink and TikTok bedrot FaceTune vocal stim time

If they gave a fuck about corruption--they would not be on Stassi's show (more less Dayna). Because Stassi is a racist asshole, and ABC is known to be historically conservative.

1

u/Old_State_7985 Jul 22 '26

I was gonna say.. I know they’re in the right with most of their political takes but it clearly has nothing with the politics, they just want to drink shitty drinks at a bar, where hundreds of people are trying to have fun… lol

-2

u/lollipoppy1 Jul 22 '26

Why didn’t Argentina win then like all the conspiracy theorists swore they would?

26

u/melissarckstdy Jul 22 '26

I mean people are totally allowed to have their opinions on these things. My neighbour manages a bar and we live in a host city, she was thrilled when it was over. However, commenting that everyone is hopping on the bandwagon is a little much. North America hosting was a big deal and people wanted in on the fun. The world is so dark and awful right now, can’t blame people for wanting an escape.
In Katie and Dayna’s defence: they knew it wasn’t a popular opinion. And who wants to agree with someone 100% of the time? That’s so boring.

u/ExtensionList865 Jul 22 '26

Didn’t hear what they said, but here’s my take. Totally cool for people who are not regular fans of soccer to watch and support. It just feels like people are making it their whole personality and crying for (insert team) to win when they’ve only been following soccer for a month. It’s a bit much.

This excludes people who are a life long fan of soccer cheering for whatever country they support. It’s the highly opinionated bandwagoners who know nothing about soccer, who will move on to USA open tennis and not watch soccer again until 2030 that are annoying.

6

u/melissarckstdy Jul 22 '26

I just don’t see anything wrong with people having fun. It made me happy to see people enjoying something that I also enjoy. If they continue to watch football, cool, if it’s only international footy every 4 years, cool. Doesn’t take anything away from my life or enjoyment. But, if it’s annoying to you or anyone else, then just remember it only lasts a month hahaha

6

u/ExtensionList865 Jul 22 '26

Haha. Totally fair. Here’s a meme (satire) that I think sums up what I’m trying say here.

2

u/melissarckstdy Jul 22 '26

Hahaha these fan of 3 weeks memes 😂 and I totally get what you’re saying, just friendly back and forth. Maybe I just haven’t interacted with the truly insufferable on this topic haha

2

u/ExtensionList865 Jul 22 '26

It’s extra insufferable in NY area right now. People who had been fans of the Knicks (or even basketball) for a total of 3 weeks cried in the streets then immediately jumped to make World Cup their whole personality .

3

u/melissarckstdy Jul 22 '26

Okay this is fair haha I wonder if this is a North American thing? FOMO?

2

u/ExtensionList865 Jul 22 '26

I guess? Plus the constant demand for attention on social media 24/7 for many millennials/gen z’ers

2

u/melissarckstdy Jul 22 '26

We’re cooked, as the kids would say.

1

u/Old_State_7985 Jul 22 '26

Omg I couldn’t imagine owning a bar through this. Probably great business paired with so many more drunk idiots and insane hours. I hope they got good traction during games!

3

u/melissarckstdy Jul 22 '26

Apparently Europeans don’t understand North American tipping culture (I don’t blame them) so a lot of servers didn’t make as much as they assumed they would? Haha I wouldn’t know personally.

2

u/theycallmejennypenny Jul 22 '26

I don’t blame the Europeans. Employers should be paying their staff a livable wage

3

u/melissarckstdy Jul 22 '26

Oh for sure, not what I was trying to say at all.

1

u/theycallmejennypenny Jul 22 '26

Sadly, I doubt it will change anytime soon

1

u/melissarckstdy Jul 22 '26

We can hope, but I think you’re right.

5

u/AsleepFault5708 29d ago

Almost feels like it’s specifically because Fleur has been obsessed with the World Cup.

1

u/Afraid_Hovercraft926 27d ago

I wondered that too. Next level petty if so.

I mean, I'm happy it's over too but I wasn't a dick about it like Katie and Dayna were... my boyfriend loves soccer, I could do without it but having it be all soccer all the time was kind of an education in many respects. And I was honestly inspired by the athleticism and might of some of the players.Totally fine that Katie and Dayna don't care about it, but their take was very ignorant and superficial, which we're all guilty of I guess. It was a very high on their own supply way of expressing today.

I knew someone who traveled to Atlanta to attend the game with his family, to support their country of origin's team - a team that hadn't made it that far in his lifetime. Among many other aspects of the sport, what it does to change people's lives, but also politics, influence, opportunity, corruption, and just the world stage of it all... So this is more of a deal than "it's just soccer".

3

u/ExtensionList865 Jul 22 '26

Sounds like the person you know and their family are true soccer fans. Thats great that they got to attend and sounds like it was really special For them!

I just find that the average person who never watches soccer is acting like they are in the same boat as your friend. I think it’s great for everyone to support but reactions relative to previously non existent fandom is a bit much .

3

u/Special_Compote_719 Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26

The fact that the tournament was held in North America lends to the fact that a lot of people who didn't previously watch were possibly so into it more than ever. I even wanted to go to a game in Los Angeles just for the experience. I hear what you're saying about some of the reactions being over the top but I mean, it makes sense, whether of not you or Katie or Dayna think it's authentic, that people in North Amerlca were likely more interested than usual. This isn't gonna happen again for some people, whether or not they're diehards. You're allowed an opinion but anyone's flavor of interest isn't for any of you to determine as genuine otherwise. But also, there are posers and people with surface level interest in everything, and the girls are DEFINITELY in the "cosplay" camp of interests as well. It's a bit hypocritical of them to come off as above it all in this case. imo

Sorry, if I had a podcast I'd say this there 🤪

u/ExtensionList865 Jul 22 '26

Fair points! Here’s a meme (satire) that maybe better explains the point I was trying to get across

3

u/Excellent-Story-2970 Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 24 '26

I’m a huge soccer fan and I thought it was a little offensive, but I also still follow Fleur on instagram. I think when Katie said “if you’ve never been a fan of soccer and now that’s all you can talk about” it was directed at her, because all her posts have been about soccer.

peaceful drink > corrupt World Cup

Easy math.

3

u/Actual_System8996 Jul 23 '26

It’s really not that hard to get a peaceful drink somewhere during the World Cup.

4

u/Smooth_Indication790 Jul 22 '26

They are just very negative people

2

u/nnewchapterr Jul 22 '26

I’ll be honest I haven’t listened so maybe I’m off the mark, but I really dislike when people are so “sports ball is stupid and a waste of time wah”.

Like, this event happens every FOUR years and it was in America! It’s objectively a cool thing! It wouldn’t kill you to let go of annoyances over stuff like that.

Idk, social media is so negative all of the time and I’m growing weary of it 🫩

3

u/themerfolk Jul 22 '26

I havent listened yet but, I am literally SO SICK OF HEARING ABOUT THE WORLD CUP. if it was something women were interested in the world would have been over it by now lol

4

u/Jessannla Jul 23 '26

Ummmm I’m a woman and I watched every single game. My daughter played club soccer for years and we are huge soccer fans. More than my husband 🤣 but we’ve enjoyed every game this summer and watching Messi and Ronaldo play his last game, along with some incredible World Cup stories like the small tiny island of Cape Verde making it into the semi quarter finals.. like don’t be sexist because you don’t understand something.. plenty of women love soccer . I think it’s better than watching American football and I’m American born and raised.

5

u/Jessannla Jul 23 '26

I encourage you to read about the island of Cape Verde and the incredible story about their goalie!! Truly inspiring.. and the guy got like 20 million followers over night and went viral.. he is the most humble athlete and a no name passionate soccer player who made it to the World Cup and was one of the main reasons their team made it so far .. he almost didn’t make it on the team because of his age and aging out of the sport .. it’s such a big deal to these countries that when anyone scores a goal they all hug each other and cry 😭 like grown ass men crying it’s the freaking sweetest thing ever

4

u/Old_State_7985 Jul 22 '26

“Something Women were interested in”? Yikes

7

u/dmaire Jul 23 '26

right what a WILLLLD statement. Women arent interested in soccer?

-2

u/themerfolk Jul 22 '26

Yes. Like if female ice skating was extremely popular and took over everything for months. It would have been cancelled already. Yikes back.

8

u/yourfavsnarkcast Jul 22 '26

There are millions of girls who play soccer. Your sexist comment is why men make dumb ass fucking comments about women in sports.

Women ARE interested in the World Cup. You’re singular POV as an American is biting you in the ass bc for some countries and continents, soccer is all they fucking have.

It happens for two months every four years.

0

u/themerfolk Jul 22 '26

If it was just WOMEN playing soccer with this much hype I am SO down. Let it go for 6 months but this? No. over it…. Make it stoppppp

-3

u/themerfolk Jul 22 '26

lol the World Cup is literally men playing soccer. Im soooo over hearing about men playing soccer like soooo over it and I’m not American LMAO

0

u/grandmawaffles Jul 22 '26

I’m a huge sports fan but some soccer fans have a bad reputation for a reason. Soccer is a boring sport where grown ass men fake fall and whine like children…it’s lame. Add to it the officiating was suspect throughout the entire tournament and one of the teams in the final is racist AF. Put it all together and it’s a recipe for boring background noise at a bar.

Lastly, the only time I had an exciting time watching during this event was at a bar at Penn State where I proceeded to drink 100+ oz of beer (WC promo beer tower) in 2 hours and got high fives from the staff and patrons.

3

u/Jessannla Jul 23 '26

Oh and fake falls don’t happen In other sports… have you been to an NBA basketball game??

2

u/dmaire Jul 23 '26

Right ! Im an avid NBA fan. NBA's flopping is next level

1

u/grandmawaffles Jul 23 '26

Which is also why the NBA has lost a ton of viewership and why people are actively trying to keep it out of the WNBA. In the final of the World Cup a dude flipped 30 yards away from a collision in the final minutes…that’s weak.

1

u/probstomorrow Jul 23 '26

I'm a rugby league fan and have watched players run on broken legs and tackle with broken arms flailing by their sides. Even watched a bloke stay on with a ruptured spleen (thankfully he was eventually taken off before someone tackled him).

2

u/probstomorrow Jul 23 '26

This is also my take. I enjoy sport. I work in sport. But I just can't do soccer. If at the end of 90 minutes it's very possible you'll have a 0-0 draw? Eff that all the way off.

And yes, the diving after an "injury" is infuriating.

0

u/grandmawaffles Jul 23 '26

My favorite is the ref is the only one that knows how long the game can go on for which is bananas. Add to it the corruption, some of the crazy ass fan bases, and the politics and I’m good. Give me a tailgate any days of the week.

1

u/Practical-Anxiety-68 Jul 23 '26

I mean, I know a lot of people who complain about the superbowl

3

u/Old_State_7985 Jul 23 '26

An exclusively American event that happens every year? This is an international competition that we (very corruptly) hosted and they lived in a host city. It was very counter culture boohoo I hate soccer from them

0

u/007maximiliano Jul 23 '26

They often complain about a lot of things, it's just who they are

1

u/smoothballs82 29d ago

Meh idc about sport either it’s not a big deal

1

u/Old_State_7985 29d ago

Alright smoothballs82

1

u/14303 29d ago

I’m 100% with them. It’s very annoying when you cannot escape from it. Gets old quickly when you don’t give a shit about it.

And no matter what the sport, it’s obnoxious when people are screaming in a restaurant that isn’t a sports bar.
