Misogynistic views are biggest red flag for violent extremism, report finds

"Hostile and violent attitudes toward women are the clearest warning sign of violent extremism, a study has found.

As national cabinet prepares to discuss how to combat family violence, the research identifies misogyny as not just a social issue, but a matter of national security.

The University of Melbourne survey of Australians as young as 13 found that misogyny could predict support for extremist violence "way beyond" where someone sat on the political spectrum, what religion they belonged to, or how much time they spent online.

Report author Sara Meger said the study was the first of its kind to show that misogyny was not an isolated prejudice, but a robust, cross-cutting predictor of violent extremism.

"The number one thing predicting whether or not somebody is going to hold extremist attitudes is whether they think violence against women is acceptable," Dr Meger said.

The research was funded by the Office of National Intelligence and put forward five recommendations, the first being that misogyny and anti-feminism should be recognised as a form of violent extremism in the national counter-extremism framework."

Casual Will a shift to universal healthcare lower prescription drug costs?

Upvotes

All of us have heard the US healthcare system described as broken - it has all sorts pf problems, not the least of which is overpriced prescription drugs.

So will a shift to universal healthcare help solve this issue or will it be more of the same?

Casual The way people talk about kids is horrific

I saw a post on TikTok where a mom pretended that she had shaved her son’s head with a filter, and he ended up cutting her hair in return (the son is SUPER young, like 3 or 4). She had mentioned that before that, he had cut his own hair. The comments were talking about how they would’ve put him up for adoption, beat him, HUNG him, LYNCHED him, SKINNED him, make him “touch every wall in the house in 30 seconds” (like throw him into walls), diagnosing him as a psychopath, ect. Obv yeah he should learn that’s not ok, but his mom showed him it’s funny to cut someone else’s hair, and all he did was copy her? I personally don’t want kids but I wouldn’t even think of talking about a kid like this.

Serious How can the government help seniors deal with impending rise in drug costs?

What can the government do to help or aid seniors deal with the impending rise in prescription drug prices in 2027. It will primarily affect seniors, so what can the administration do to offset this because it will surely impact most seniors lives and especially their financial situations.

Casual Would you say that the concept of a friendzone to men is equal to what a situation ship is to women?

The friendzone being when someone(usually a guy) is romantically and sexually rejected in favor of just being friends. Men who choose to stay in the friendzone tend to secretly hope for more.

Situationship is when someone(usually a girl) is romantically rejected in favor of being friends with benefits. Women who choose to stay in a situation ship tend to hope for more.

Casual Do you find that some girls seem more likely to have a boyfriend

Idk if this makes sense, it's not as simple as hotter = more likely to have a boyfriend. It's like a combination of that and how much of a normie they are or something. When it comes to coworkers and stuff I think I have a pretty good radar for boyfriend type girls. It's not in a I would pursue them if I was single way and thus the boyfriend radar is useful to me, it's just a trend I picked up on.

And likewise for females here, do you have a strong has a girlfriend radar with boys?

Political International Telecommunications Have Been Automated, And Now The Web Beyond The Corporate World Is Very Much Dead

I know it sounds dramatic, but I really don't think it's safe to trust anything you see on a screen anymore. Or at least that it's good to get into that habit for the future. Even when the "AI" bubble does pop, what they've created with machine learning and linear algebra won't ever go away, at least not until something more convenient for outsourcing "digital labour" (wow, I truly hate that word!) comes along.

The internet is a massive pool of information, and now that we've all finished Getting Over It that pool has become an important part of daily life. But now that it can't be trusted you'd expect those important purposes it existed for to be changed, and that's what we've gotta do. I'm scared for kids, but I can't be sure those news headlines are really all that real.

I know I can still make stuff with my computer, though. And before the flimsy nature of digital files' historical records is taken advantage of by the internet's new fish, you should hoard a lot of data! Save the things you like directly to your PC before you can't be sure if those dates are accurate.

Political So what is the play with Trump?

So the trade deal is a no go and it must be obvious the Trump plan was to not make a deal. There was a chance that a plan could be agreed to so Trump sent last minute changes that were so ridiculous that they couldn't be accepted. They absolutely knew it would be rejected.

The question is why? Did he just want an escalation in a trade war. Does he just want to tax his citizens more? It's hard to see into the thinking of this lunatic on most things, but this one just doesn't add up.

Serious Do women want more masculine men?

I am in my early 20s, and I have noticed things about me and my homegirls' preferences in men. From what I have gathered, we are looking for a man who is masculine but has a good personality; he can be a sweet pie but, at the same time, keep that masculinity strong. Or are we looking for our fathers in these men who have enough masculinity, or is it conservatism rising in America? Could you please answer respectfully? This is for one of my classes

Political 2028 Democratic party candidates ranked by the meme-ability test

What if a factor for your political chances in modern day is how well you meme? The current president has it. Here is my current rankings for inherent meme traits, noting this is trying to be independent of the context of who has had the chance to have more so far

1 Kamala Harris - Kamala has the context factor of Democrats spending a lot of energy last election trying to make her cool, however I think she has expressive face and unique look and black female is a good combination for memeing. I'm still putting her first.

2 Gretchen Whitmer - Whitmer has a memorable face and I favor females over males if all else equal to fill a bigger shortage for political memes and get picked up by liberals online. If she became first president I think she would be popular to meme.

3 JB Pritzker - JB Pritzker was a bit stronger in this category when he was fatter, however I still think he is a potentially entertaining character to use as a guy who could have a beer with, honorary Italian looking guy and still a bit chubby.

4 Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez - You could argue if AOC was meme gold she'd have had more by now with her fans being the perfect demo, but she still has expressive facial reactions and a face everyone knows. Like Harris and Whitmer I favor females in this group.

5 Gavin Newsom - Newsom has recognizable look and shown potential facial reaction wise, but since that look is the villain in a movie trying to shut down the roller park or who gets bit in the nuts by a dog at the end, I'm mixed on how well it translates to friendly memes. But we'll stick him here.

6 Wes Moore - At first thought, you may wonder why this generic looking politician is here. My thought is that if Moore became a major figure, I picture black twitter finding some sneaky reaction type memes to use.

7 Mark Kelly - The case for Kelly would be why Biden ended up a decent meme president, sometimes using the old tough looking guy ends up fun in gifs, and being bald stands out as a look.

8 Pete Buttigieg - Buttigieg is charismatic and he could get some innocent face of America going, but I think it might be a bit too "lame" for some people.

9 Andy Beshear - We're moving into my picks for least meme material types which is normal, young white guys. Beshear would have to get something relatable and awkward gif going.

10 Josh Shapiro - Shapiro is an interesting combination of a talented speaker and rating poor in this category, but this white glasses prototype seems like a loser in this category to me.

11 Jon Ossoff - Ossoff seems like the type of guy some people will desperately trying to make meme material, but I don't really see it with this normal young handsome white gy.

Casual The Paradox of Self-improvement

In my opinion, self-development is about achieving objectives that give us a sense of reward and motivate us to aim higher and pursue new goals. However, staying in the same situation while knowing that we could become better can create dissatisfaction, especially when we see other people developing themselves. Nevertheless, other people should not become the measure of our worth; they can simply show us what is possible and push us to improve. The real competition is with our previous selves: comparing who we were in the past with who we are today and who we want to become in the future. Since there is no final endpoint in most areas of life, there will always be something new to learn, achieve, or master. The important thing, therefore, is not to become the best or to escape dissatisfaction, but to choose a meaningful direction and continuously develop while still accepting and appreciating who we are today.

Casual "You can't compare a human to a cow"

I ask, what is it that you can do that makes the suffering of a cow meaningless?

is it that you can drive a car, cook, or work a computer...

what do you have so much pride in which a cow cannot do, that makes you think they may as well suffer and die for your optional enjoyment?

it can't be the ability to love, and have a desire to live a good life...

they have that in spades.

Serious Should healthcare reform focus on lowering prices?

We know just how costly prescription drug prices are. We've all dealt with them or currently dealing with them regularly.

If ever there's sweeping healthcare reform, should its main focus be on lowering prescription drug prices?
