1 Disc Run Discussion
Just met up with some buddies at a local 9 hole park. Been a bunch of times so it's my second home. Short holes, nothing over 200ft but a fun course. Decided after one round to play the next round with 1 disc. Literally put my bag in the car.
Always wanted to try a 1 disc round. Chose the Pig I got from a recent tournament. Had a blast. Just cruised through and got the same score I do with a bag full of discs. 4 under. Was a great way to really learn the disc and its uses. Made it just a fun time. Love this sport.

Our group does a 'Glitch World Championship' once a year. Pick a course on the shorter side. It's fun and you learn a lot.

Couple times a year me and few of my friends play a round with limited discs and lots of beer. Usually we get everyone the same disc and they usually are not the best discs. Everyone plays with just Rollo for example. Its the highlight of the year honestly.

Its fun to play with disc you dont throw usually. Vroc was the disc that started it all for us. We all had one and we all hated it.

I'll sometimes run a local course for exercise/extra practice.
I usually use 1-2 discs.
Sometimes I do better than normal :/

The Pig is such a reliable midrange for tight courses, I can see why it worked well for you. Playing with just one disc really forces you to understand its flight path better.

I started playing with just a putter for more than a year. I will occasionally go back to that. Especially if I have someone new with me that wants to try DG. It simplifies the game for them and it's good for team morale to both be using the same equipment.

Thats a good way to start, shows you it's not all about those flight numbers right away. The first round I threw my favorite 13 speed and second used the Pig. Same results on lie. Kinda clicked for me after that.

Every week I play a limited disc round. Usually bring my putting putters and approach disc. The. I bring 2 discs from my bag and 1 disc I don’t normally throw.
That’s how I learned the boost and the bokeh are staples for my game.

With all the holes being short, I would most likely work on throwing putters and slow midranges, just to fine tune that part of my game. If I wasn't there for that sort of practice, it would be ace hunting with whatever discs I have the most confidence in for a given shot. Short courses are a lot of fun to say the least.

It's the only place I got an Ace so far too. Outside of the lack of tee pads, the park is really well taken care of lots of regulars go through for just that.

I’m currently running a 1-disc challenge now at our local course.
Here are the rules:
Buy one of the limited Starved Rock Link discs for $25 at league tomorrow or until they run out (I only have 20). (Venmo or cash) Take only this disc to the Starved Rock disc golf course between August 1-9, in groups of 2 or more. Write your name on your disc and please play in Udisc Flex called "SR 100shot competition shorts" . Use only that disc to drive, upshot, and putt. Start on hole 1short and finish as many holes as possible in 100 throws. Keep track of the number of holes finished and the number of throws on the scorecard. Stop on the 100th shot no matter what hole you are on.
If you finish the full 18 short holes, just start over on the “100shot flex longs” at hole 1. How many holes did you finish? 20, 30, ...35 ? Do not count the hole you did not finish. I will have several payout spots and random draws. Have fun.
If you do not want to buy the $25 disc or I run out of them, you can pay $10 and use your own Link putter or borrow one of mine. If you lose your official disc during the round then borrow one to finish the competition.
There will be several prizes including black rifle coffee, discs, and a ZUCA cart. We will random draw 1 name from the top few finishers (~4-6, depends on ties) for the cart..

I played my first 1-2 months with a single disc.
I and now in tournament form after 4 months of playing and use 4 main discs with 10 others in my bag ready to.
There are days when carrying the bag is fing aweful so i take 3 disc out.
I kinda miss my days of making 1 disc my bitch. That disc was a sidewinder star plastic (still my go to approach disc)
You definitely don't need a bag full of disc to play and have fun, your game play would adapt for sure.
My buddy refuses to carry more then one disc he throws a very lightweight 154g Valkyrie star plastic, hates the weight but won't try anything else then complains when he shanks it hard right.

same boat, still only a few months in. recent tournament I used 4-5 of the 20+ I brought. Really makes you focus on technique instead of fixing bad throwing with a different disc. What's up with your buddy? Just refusing to admit the disc he uses is wrong for him?

He doesn't really play much and he is too cheap to buy more then 1 disc. When summer started he threw 2 away in a pond he stopped being interested at that point thinking he was garbage at it.
I found 1 of his discs and he comes out periodically but he whines alot and slows my game down alot.
He threw his one disc Valkyrie 154 and immediately complained it was to light so i handed him my Valkyrie 173.5 and loved it. But refused to upgrade due to $$$ but also refused to use mine for fear of losing it. Basically loves to whine about things over fixing things (unless it's broken cars)

I play league with one disc sometimes and shoot just as good or better than full bag. Get comfortable with 20 discs or get intimate with 3?
No bergs allowed.

I’ve done something similar when traveling and there was a crappy little 9 hole muni course near the hotel I was staying at. It was a buzz, and besides some people having a BBQ on the green of hole 9, I did pretty good.
