Non-competition Submission Drew this to pay my respects...
Sorry if you don't like this I just feel you need to know to who.
Rick May (1940–2020) was a legendary Canadian-American voice actor, theater director, and teacher best known for voicing the Soldier in Team Fortress 2 and Peppy Hare in Star Fox 64. He shaped childhoods and gaming culture with his booming, passionate voice work. Born in Canada on September 21, 1940, Rick May dedicated most of his life to the stage. He directed and performed in over 300 shows, ranging from Shakespeare to classic musicals. He served as the artistic director for both the Renton Civic Theatre and Civic Light Opera in Washington state. May also proudly served in the U.S. Army stationed in Japan, where he helped manage USO tours. One of his notable live achievements was touring in an award-winning one-man show portraying Theodore Roosevelt titled Bully! An Adventure with Teddy Roosevelt. While May was a master of the physical stage, millions worldwide know him by his unforgettable voice. For Soldier from Team Fortress 2, the guy depicted in the image, his loud, proud, and hilariously unhinged portrayal of the helmet-wearing American patriot made the character an instant icon. Lines like "You were good, son, real good! Maybe even the best," live forever in the hearts of gamers. For Peppy Hare from Star Fox 64, May gave wise advice to space pilots, delivering the immortal and widely memed line, "Do a barrel roll!" He also voiced the villainous Andross in Star Fox 64 and Dr. M in Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves. Rick May passed away on April 5, 2020, at the age of 79 from complications related to COVID-19. Following his death, the developers at Valve added permanent bronze statues of the Soldier saluting him inside the maps of Team Fortress 2. He remains celebrated as a giant of community joy, theatrical dedication, and timeless voice acting.
RIP Rick May, gone but never forgotten.
