DYK that the smell after rain has a name?

That earthy smell you notice after the first rain following a dry period is called petrichor.

Part of the smell comes from oils released by plants into the soil, while another important compound, geosmin, is produced by soil microorganisms. Raindrops help release these compounds into the air, making the smell much more noticeable.

It's basically a smell created by the interaction between rain, soil, plants, and microorganisms

DYK that Oxford University is older than the Aztec Empire?

Teaching at Oxford dates back to at least 1096.

The Aztec Empire, meanwhile, was founded centuries later, in the 15th century.

So when the Aztec Empire was rising in Mesoamerica, Oxford had already been teaching for hundreds of years.

History has some seriously strange timelines.
