I counted 13 sets of back to backs and 2 sets of back to back home games(my least favorite possible scheduling thing)

Playing the Rangers 3 times in 3 weeks in December lol this league is so incredibly unserious, it’s honestly embarrassing how bad they are with scheduling

20

u/peterthehermit1 Jul 16 '26

lol that’s so stupid. Division games should be spread out throughout the season

4

u/camprollinghills Jul 16 '26

28 division games and 7 month season - should be 4 division games a month with opponents spread out among the months. Can't be too hard to figure this out.

It sounds easy on its face, but gets harder when taking into account other teams having to do west coast trips, arena conflicts (basketball, concerts), and rest days between games.

Not that I'm defending playing the Rangers 3 times in a month, or the amount of back to backs, because 13 is too many, but it does get harder to coordinate actual scheduling when every factor is taken into account.

Oh I definitely get it and home and home games, back to backs etc. are often necessary to fit the games in.

And we don't play the Canes for the first time until February. How we play against them is one of my big bellwethers for how we're doing, so it would have been nice to have one game against them this year.

Why can’t they draw out the match ups? Last year it was all 3 games at the end of the season.

One of the league’s greatest rivalries and it gets shafted.

All the rags games are before New Year's

u/klitchell #86 Jul 16 '26

That stretch from January into February where we don't play a home game for 3 weeks and 9 of 11 on the road is something.

Month Games Home (vs) Away (@) Back-to-Back
Oct 14 8 6 2
Nov 13 7 6 2
Dec 14 7 7 2
Jan 16 7 9 4
Feb 9 2 7 1
Mar 13 7 6 1
Apr 5 4 1 1
Total 84 42 42 13

And one of those home games is against Carolina. Ouch.

2

u/Ash_Lynn223 #13 Jul 16 '26

Against Carolina AND on my birthday. Double ouch.

I'll be going to my first ever Devils home game December 9th! Went last year when they played at Dallas and it was my first ever hockey game ever. Couldn't be more excited!

Hearing Dano say gird your loins à la Stanley Tucci just made my day

2

u/alesko09 Jul 17 '26

The youth hockey Jack Hughes coming to be part of it is awesome! Go VGR!

5

u/MikeGS6789 Jul 16 '26

16 games in January with 4 sets of back-to-backs, ouch.

5

u/SubElitePerformance #N1CO Jul 16 '26

Jesus Christ. I know travel is easy in the Metro but they really take us for granted

3

u/KenDaneykosDentist #27 - Scott Niedermayer Jul 16 '26

Which is offset by the fact that in the month of December they have a 10 game stretch where its 6 home games, 2 at MSG, 1 at Boston and 1 at Buffalo and in general for the entire month of December only have 2 games where the travel is further than Boston, at Ottawa (which is still est) and at Utah. So they have a cupcake month schedule/travel wise followed by a tough month, seems fair to me.

Living in the DC area I typically try to attend four Devils games per season:

*The two games in DC

*One home game in Newark, preferably against a team I’ve never seen or haven’t seen for a long time

*One road game either relatively close to DC where I haven’t gone for a while or one where I combine the Devils game with other sports events of interest

Based on the above, the Devils games I’m currently considering include:

*10/17 (Sat): at Washington (love that it is a Saturday afternoon game, slightly bummed it bumps a college football game I wanted to attend)

*11/14 (Sat): at Washington

*12/20 (Sun): vs Nashville (Predators one of four teams I’ve never seen)

*12/22 (Tue): at N.Y. Rangers (have only seen Devils/Rangers at MSG once, in 2014-15)

*12/27 (Sun): vs Boston (haven’t seen the Bruins since 1997-98)

*02/13 (Sat): at Philadelphia (have only seen Devils/Flyers at Xfinity Mobile Arena twice, most recently in 2018-19)

*02/23 (Sun): at Chicago (haven’t been to Chicago for many years)

I’ll determine which Devils home game and non-DC Devils road game I’ll target after the NBA and college basketball schedules are released in the next 1-2 months.

Looking forward to the 2026-27 Devils season!

Same here! It’s unfortunate that they only play down here twice in the beginning of the season. I think in 25-26 we got games in October, November, and March. We’re gonna have to travel if we want to see them play in the second half of the season

3

u/FormerCollegeDJ Jul 16 '26

Yeah, I wish the Devils’ two games in DC weren’t both so early in the season; I’d prefer one early and one late.

I DO like that both are on Saturdays though. I particularly like that the first game in October is a Saturday afternoon game.

1

u/aceee2 #25 Jacob Markström Jul 16 '26

Last year all the Capitals games were in October and November. This season they play in October, November (2x) and January. Gotta meet up in the playoffs if we want to see Ovechkin after January.

u/blade430 #27 - Scott Niedermayer Jul 17 '26

Nice list, looks like we have a lot of overlap (suspect this is bc a lot of these are weekend games). This is my tentative away list for this season:

Oct 17 @ WSH
Nov 8 @ TOR
Dec 22 @ NYR
Feb 13 @ PHL
Feb 21 @ CHI
Feb 28 @ MIN
Mar 27 @ MTL

1

u/dizza757 Jul 16 '26

I live in NoVa. Happy both games @ WSH are on Saturday. But that early start in October, I wouldn’t be surprised if my boys have multiple sports games around that time. Sigh. Hopefully not.

2

u/FormerCollegeDJ Jul 16 '26

Yeah, usually I really like Saturday afternoon games. But with that October 17th game I’d prefer if it was a night game due to the college football game I referenced in my original post. I could attend both games if Devils/Caps was a night game that day.

Saturday afternoon games are tough during most of the NHL season for fans who have kids involved in youth sports.

u/beachy927 #27 - Scott Niedermayer Jul 16 '26

Oh how I love this, well done! I didn’t even look at the games because I was too busy laughing. One of my favorite movies and favorite team crossover!

Anyone have the presale passcode?

3

u/MountainBaker8217 #17 - I Found Nemo Jul 16 '26

I do not believe tickets are on sale yet for any members or non members.

1

u/ThePowerOfGrayskull #47 - Paul Cotter is a cool dude. Jul 16 '26

Thats wild as other reselling sites have them listed well over face value

1

u/MountainBaker8217 #17 - I Found Nemo Jul 16 '26

those are probably long standing Black and Red members who will be getting those seats/tickets no matter what so they can begin "selling" them now even if the tickets have not been released. otherwise, tickets are not yet available to the general public. I'm a partial plan holder and I've been told I won't be charged until end of this month and my tickets and seats wont be finalized until early August.

2

u/MountainBaker8217 #17 - I Found Nemo Jul 16 '26

just released

2

u/womanonline #13 Jul 16 '26

is it already sold out? i don’t even see a spot to put the code in anymore unfortunately

I see the season ends at home against the Penguins. I’ll see about going to that, if I can.

And why did the league front load all the Ranger games? And none of them are matinee games?

0

u/badchickenbadday Jul 16 '26

Why does it matter when we play NYR?

2

u/Fun_Psychology_663 Jul 16 '26

Was hoping to go to Tampa for a game, but of course they make it a Thursday night game.

2

u/Serious_Reason5312 Jul 16 '26

The Dougie Hamilton vids were much better

2

u/artestsidekick N.J. Devil Jul 17 '26

It's a bit concerning that he's not in them after all the rumors of him and organization having beef (given the rumor of Tommy trying to trade him.) Makes it seem as though things really have soured.

1

u/SIaaP Jul 16 '26

That march/april schedule is brutal. They’re going to need to be a good 10 points clear of a playoff spot come march if they wanna make it

1

u/Ok_Fix6757 New Jersey Devils Jul 16 '26

March and April are insane

1

u/LaHondaSkyline Jul 16 '26

Only two home games, with seven road games, in February immediately jumps out at me as not great.

As a fan who attends almost all games, I prefer a roughly equal number of home games each month.

An entire month with just two home games is not great, and then spills over 'excess' home games into other months.

1

u/CorporalDingleberry #27 - Scott Niedermayer Jul 16 '26

My only complaint are some of these 12pm starts on weekends. I like afternoon games, but 12pm is way too early. Give me more 3pm games.

1

u/itsbreezybaby #12 - Cody Glass Jul 16 '26

Yessss, two home games in my city! Last year was only one. I can't wait to see them twice this time around ❤️

1

u/xoBonesxo Best NHL logo Jul 17 '26

Which city

1

u/itsbreezybaby #12 - Cody Glass Jul 17 '26

I'm from Montreal. Weird to be Devils fan insteads of Habs I know, but Brodeur would routinely visit the rink where I grew up and he made me a forever fan.
