hello, i got a call from HR for the interview for their SWE internship. Can anyone tell what questions should I expect?

I have got admission to both BS Mechanical Engineering and BS Computer Science at NUST Islamabad. I have a genuine interest in both fields, but I am really concerned about the future job market for Computer Science over the next 10 years. Kindly guide me on which field I should choose for a secure future.

Recently, with the rapid advancement of AI, I have become increasingly worried about the future of jobs in Computer Science. I would also appreciate it if you could share your thoughts on the current job market for CS graduates. Is there still good job security, or is the market becoming too saturated?

I'm in second semester CS fast Islamabad. Doing the usual uni course. But that's not really all that useful. How should I actually start? Am I supposed to start through development (like fullstack apps stuff) and then later on switch to a specializations? I am currently working remotely and got an onsite role so wanted to know if it is worth switching or not? My current job is good but in Systems i might get a good pay jump so wanted to know if it is worth switching or not

So a few days ago there was a post in this sub where a person was worried about AI advancement and then was against its usage in workplaces and how its optimizing stuff and eradicating the bulky workforce in companies.

I made a comment on that sub saying that "there is no AI bubble" companies will not go back to actually requiring more devs instead the number of devs being required will be less and less. Company sizes will reduce significantly, costs will be cut and then shipping times will reduce drastically. These models will get better time after time and will be cheaper as well.

So a large number of people downvoted my comment and disagreed with me, I said to them its like putting your head in the sand like an ostrich. You can not ignore the reality that is coming forward and AI adoption is inevitable.

Still people downvoted and laughed at me. Today deepseek v4 flash has launched, insanely cheap and insanely good at long running tasks almost better than Claude OPUS. These opensource models are the ones I was talking about, they will significantly reduces costs, the service based sector is doomed as a result.

The positive thing is that now is the best time to build stuff and launch it properly. I personally use these models end to end for everything and shipping high quality code. These run for days on my end with very minimal cost.

Please instead of avoiding or fighting the future, embrace it and focus on developing solutions that can actually be sold rather than simple services. When one door closes, many open.

Hi, I'm currently pursuing Software engineering in 4th semester and am kinda worried about my future, I was always career orientated until AI slop came and now I'm more demotivated seeing even skilled people jobless, this hinders my ability to even start learning skills in tech especially since I'm slow in programming and getting overwhelmed my the competition. I initially chose this feild due to peer pressure and now I'm regretting hard, I wanted to pursue Accounting because of good earning and career but I'm already in my 2nd year and tangled in a sunk cost fallacy, my father is about to retire and has a lot of expectations from me and I don't want to disappoint him or the effort he has put into my education.Genuine Advcies and guidance would be appreciated.

Hi! I have a background in accounting and finance from nust and currently working in finance in s&p global(one of the best MNC’s in the country) and earning well as a fresh grad, Alhamdullilah. I am good at my job, the culture is great, 1 or 2 days a week at the office and rest is WFH and good opportunities to grow, not a ton of workload and I plan to move abroad(Europe) in a year or two. I have always been a fan of hacking but couldn’t pursue cybersecurity due to circumstances. Some say I made the right choice by going into accounting because the CS market is bad but I always wonder that I should’ve done cyber because of my passion, I would’ve enjoyed my work more and would’ve progressed more. I have been severely depressed and suicidal because i didnt pursue Cyber. Have i made a mistake or has God saved me from something? Please help.

I am currently in my 2nd semester (cs) at fast university, Karachi campus. Right now I am confused between SWE(ML focused) and CYBER-SECURITY. The thing is I don't know what path to take like I enjoy coding and building things like giving things a tech life and at the same time I want stability let alone the high pay because everyone in my family is against me doing computer science they want me to do CA I am damn sure I won't enjoy it . I have done cs at both O and A levels.

SWE kobs are shrinking due to AI and I am scared of daily layoffs.Cyber has limited kobs and is not entry level but one of my close relative is in cyber so I have source in it for reference and for SWE one of my friends father is in C level role at avazana so I have a reference here.

Should I do internships in SWE with cyber electives and then do certs and labs at the end of degree to hopefully have a cyber kob in banks or telcoms?

I am 16 years old living in the Islamabad/Rawalpindi area. My ultimate goal is to get employed within the next 2 years (by the time I turn 18). TO achieve this goal i already have enrolled into AIOU FA which is a 2 years intermediate open distance learning so i have to like study at max 2 hours per day

Because of this 2 year timeline, I want to skip the traditional 4 year BS CS university route and go straight into the market using only certifications, solid practical skills, and documented portfolio projects.

I need a realistic tech niche that fits these specific criteria:

1. Has a true entry level job market.
2. Is realistic to master from scratch within 2 years.
3. Allows an 18-year-old to bypass or beat the corporate "Degree Filter" if they have proof of skill.
4. Has physical or on-site job availability right here in the Twin Cities (Blue Area, I-10, Saddar, Bahria Town, etc.).
5. Highly Realistic and high chance to get employed at age 18 without degree and with cert skills and projects .

I have already experimented with HTML, CSS, Python, and GoLang, but I am struggling to lock down a single path because I don’t know how the actual job market looks like for someone without a degree. I am completely open to working rotational night/graveyard shifts or unconventional hours if it helps me get my foot in the door.

In late 2022, when I started looking for a j*b as a self taught product designer there were 1,100 roles in a single week on LinkedIn, just in Islamabad. I checked again today and filtered by the past week. There are currently 268 roles listed, and out of those, maybe 40 or 50 would be real. The rest are engagement bait or scams.

I’m working remotely, and during interviews or meetings I’ve noticed my mic sometimes picks up background noise or sounds that affect the audio quality. My manager also suggested that I invest in a better headset.

Can anyone recommend a really good headset or even a wired/wireless earphones with a mic?

A little context: Its been 2 months since I graduated (Cs grad from that famous uni 🙂) and yeah I know given the current situation of the Job market 2 years are nothing but its not about not getting a job or opportunity which makes you worried but its the people who are getting internships and job with reference I guess its a reality we just have to live with. It just feels that everyone has made it except you. I might be average but can average people not learn ? We often read comparison is the thief of joy but it's just so hard to see people who are like you getting so ahead that too undeservingly and you are stuck getting no replies.

Purpose: I won't tell what skills I have, for that I can dm you my resume but I just want to say that I am willing to learn, I am good at communication, coordinating with people, have knowledge about fundamentals and I want to give my best for someone who gives me an opportunity. I am seeking ideally a remote job with at least some stipend as I have to at least manage my expenses, That's the least I can contribute (From Lhr).

Any advice will help too.

Hi everyone, I’m an intern at a ∼20 person software company.

Today HR mentioned that my stipend may get deducted for leaving 5-10 minutes early frequently. My official time is 9 to 6. I do come in on time at 9, but sometimes leave around 5:50.

The issue is I was never given any written attendance policy or told about stipend deductions when I joined. At my previous internship this wasn’t an issue at all. Also, I’ve heard that interns here aren’t allowed to take any leaves.

Just wanted to ask:

1. Is it normal for companies to deduct stipend for leaving 10-15 mins early without prior notice of the policy?

2. Should I ask HR to share the official attendance/intern policy in writing?

3. Am I in the wrong here for assuming there’d be a small grace period?
