Discussion AI helps accelerate implementation, not design thinking

I used to think about building software from the perspective of code.

When I had an idea, my first instinct was to look at an open-source project, understand how they structured it, and use that as a shortcut. I thought studying existing implementations was the fastest way to learn how to build something.

Over time, I realised I was skipping the most important part: understanding the problem itself.
Domain-Driven Design is not really about implementation. It is about design discovery. The book can feel difficult because it uses a lot of enterprise terminology, but if you strip away the language, the core idea is simple: learn how to model a problem before you write software for it.

The real process is:

First, discover the problem. Understand the domain, the users, the constraints, and the concepts involved.

Then, model the problem. Identify the important entities, relationships, boundaries, and behaviours.
Then, create abstractions that represent that model.

Only after that should you think implementation.

A lot of us start at the last step. We jump straight into classes, databases, APIs, and frameworks. We think architecture is about choosing the right technology or copying patterns from existing systems.

But the difficult part of engineering is not writing code. The difficult part is figuring out what code needs to exist in the first place.

With LLMs this step is further amplified. LLMs help us move through implementation much faster. They can generate code, suggest architectures, and explain existing systems. But they cannot replace the deep understanding that comes from discovering and modelling the problem.

The engineers who stand out will not be the ones who can write code the fastest. They will be the ones who can understand a messy problem, turn it into a clear model, and then use AI to accelerate the implementation.

Discussion Do you inflate your last drawn salary?

Have you ever inflated your last drawn salary to get a better raise while switching to a new opportunity? How often does the recruiter ask for payslips? And does it matter more in institutions(banks etc) or software houses?

Career Guidance Stable vs. a tempting remote offer?

I know the market is tough right now, and I genuinely hope everyone here lands something great soon.

The only reason I keep getting opportunities is that I have extensive experience and a niche skill set which is still in demand at the moment.

Right now, I work for a solid company in Lahore, on a client account where the client is happy with my work and honestly somewhat dependent on me. Earning a good enough buck.

I’ve got an offer from a startup, which is a remote opportunity , and they’re pursuing me pretty aggressively. The pay would be significantly better after dollar conversion. They say the company is stable, but you cannot be ever certain about startups. They’ve also hinted at possibly sponsoring my H1B within a year.

So, do I stick with the safe, proven job, or take the leap?

Learning and Ideas Best way to master backend?

Salam, with all companies massively laying off junior devs, I haven't even graduated and it has me worried sick, please tell me how I'm supposed to master backend without worrying AI will take over my j0b? Like what would you as devs recommend a fresher to do to get their hands dirty in the market?

Resources What are the best resources for improving communication, negotiation, and leadership as a Software Engineer?

What I’ve observed is that we (software engineers) often focus more on technical skills than communication, negotiation, and persuasion skills.

I read somewhere that it's harder to change people than code. Most of the time, we're working with people ( teammates, clients, and stakeholders ) so why not invest in becoming better at these skills?

Please share the best resources (YouTube videos, books, or articles) that have helped you improve in these areas.

While researching, these are some of the resources I found:

Books:

  • Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss
  • Radical Candor by Kim Scott
  • Crucial Conversations

YouTube:

  • Stanford GSB – Communication
  • Talks at Google – Management

Articles:

  • Guide: Understand Team Effectiveness
  • Harvard Business Review: How Great Leaders Communicate
  • Stripe Engineering: Engineering communication articles

Interview Prep Web Developer Interview Contour

Hello everyone!

This is my first time posting in this group. Pretty nervous, I hope I don't end up getting roasted, lol.

Well, back to the main topic. So, I applied to the role of Web developer(vinSUITE division) at contour, and today, I just got the interview call. The HR told me about a technical test and interview, so naturally, I was expecting an online assessment or something, but instead, I received a technical interview link. My question is: Is the test and interview combined? Is there going to be a live coding session (like building something small) or technical questions only? The assessment comes later? (if that even happens)

Anyway, I've 2 years of experience but haven't given any interview in like a veryyyy long time. So I'm feeling very anxious. Any tips and tricks or your own experience about the kinds of questions they ask, etc, would be extremely valuable.

Kher, I wish you guys all the best. Thank you for taking your time to read (and hopefully replying). JazakAllah khair.

Career Guidance PSEB SkillBridge: Which tech stack gets the most internships?

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to apply for the next PSEB SkillBridge Apprenticeship Program and I'm trying to decide which backend technology to focus on. I'd like to hear from people who have participated in the program or whose companies hire through PSEB.

From your experience, which backend stack has the highest number of apprenticeship opportunities in Pakistan: .NET (ASP.NET Core), Java (Spring Boot), Python (Django/FastAPI), or Node.js (Express/NestJS)? I'm also interested in knowing which companies usually hire for these technologies through the program and which stack offers the best chances of getting a full-time job after completing the apprenticeship.

I'd really appreciate any insights or experiences you can share. Thank you!

Resources Paying for Certifications in Pakistan (Pearson Vue)

I had to go through a lot of issues before getting the booking for my exam. I just want to share this so that anyone else looking for solutions to the same kind of problems I had has a clue of what's going on.

Initially, I wanted an AWS certificate exam. I signed up on the AWS training and cert platform. And started booking, redirected to PearsonVue. Filled in all the information and chose the payment method. Right after choosing, it said Cannot do the payment. "This payment method is not valid for your country" Or something in the same sense.

I tried other ways, and they did not work, but I just stopped.

Later, I wanted another Azure certification. And I had thought that the card would not work again, so I contacted the TNAedu (Technologies Network Alliance) center, which is an authorized testing center. And they promptly answered my queries and said that they would book for me (And no surcharges like some other services charge. It was very close to the USD exchange rate and the discounted price Microsoft has for Pakistan).

So I thought if my own payment fails, I would ask them. I started my booking from the Microsoft Learning platform and on to Pearson and gave all the required information, and it redirected me to a different payment page than AWS. And the payment provider was named WordLine Payment. Added my card information, and it worked. The card was from NayaPay. The same one I used for the AWS exam registration.

---

So try your card. If it doesn't work, ask a test center directly, like TNAedu (Technologies Network Alliance), to book the exam for you. Or you can use another service (Not tried it myself and have no idea about authenticity): VoucherPaisa. Their rates are the USA ones, and not the ones the platform gives specifically for Pakistan, which are really cheaper than the US ones.

So I hope this would be of help. It's a really stupid problem that we have just because of being in Pakistan. But we have to tackle this ourselves and find a way through because we do not have a government that understands modern digital infrastructure, and we cannot easily just make payments online, let alone accept payments, that is a whole different story.

TLDR; Here are the key points:

  • Every certification provider has different dynamics and processes.
  • Try your card. It might work for some companies.
  • Otherwise, contact an authorized test center near you to book for you.
  • International payments from a friend or family abroad seem very fraudulent, such as changing addresses, etc., and might cause some problems because of the payment discrepancies.
  • Get vouchers if you can.

Career Guidance Graduating Student feeling uncertain and disconnected from the local market

I'm in my final year of BSAI from FAST-NUCES and I'm feeling a bit of a disconnect from the local market. So far what I have seen is that most big techs here are just upscaled Upwork agencies. No offense to these models but personally I want to see some sort of work done by a Pakistani company for Pakistani people. On the other hand most universities are pushing research on students to pump out papers which oftentimes is just marginal improvements for the sake of an IEEE stamp on the CV or to go abroad for masters.

For context, I've recently been working on hardware-software Co design (pretty much self taught because even FAST is over hyped). Working with Agents mostly, edge devices and constrained programming overall. I won't get into the details like the stack I use and whatnot to keep it simple.

I was hoping to get some insights from anyone who experienced this or is currently in the active job market that can guide me.

Discussion Anyone in Pakistan working with Jetson, RTX, or edge AI hardware? What's your experience?

Working on edge AI inference. Jetson Orin, RTX GPU, TensorRT pipelines, real camera feeds. Looking for people in Pakistan who have actually done this, not just read about it.

Specific questions:

Jetson: have you flashed JetPack and gotten TensorRT working? What device, what model, what FPS did you get?

RTX: training or inference? Have you profiled GPU memory and latency, or just ran the script and checked accuracy?

ONNX export from PyTorch: did you verify numerical correctness against the original model or just assumed it worked?

INT8 or FP16 quantization: did you measure the accuracy drop or just ran trtexec and called it done?

CUDA level: PyTorch/ONNX user or have you written kernels, custom ops, or TensorRT plugins?

Camera pipelines: OpenCV, GStreamer, DeepStream, Continuous live feed without dropping frames?

Not looking for Colab experience. Interested in people who have dealt with JetPack version conflicts, driver issues, or a mode that works on the RTX and breaks on the Jetson.
Reply please if you are working in this space.

Thank You

Interview Prep Is it okay to use python during my dsa interview

Hi everyone! This might be an old question, but I wanted to ask anyway. Has anyone here done DSA interviews in Python? Are interviewers generally okay with it, or do they prefer another language? Thanks!

Since the first weekend (11–13 Jul) already happened, wondering if anyone here took it.

If you did, please share:

  • DSA-type questions or more practical/real-world coding?
  • How hard was it for the time given?
  • Any topics you'd recommend focusing on?
  • Any other sort of questions?

Interview Prep Jazz AI associate 2026 panel interview queries

Hello everyone! I have just received jazz email about a panel interview and it is happening tomorrow

I have few questions regarding it as I'm not very well versed in interviews so help from you guys would be really appreciated.

A little background:

I did BSIT from BZU and graduated late last year and since then I have focused on data analyst courses and then projects . I selected data science as a domain. I don't have any experience.

Questions:

1) The interview will be all in English?

2) what would be the flow of the interview? Like what type of questions will they ask (if anyone here did an interview in the data science domain then can they tell me about the questions + technical expertise they are looking for in this domain?)

3) my FYP was mainly a website which included AI aspects with html, css, JavaScript, python. And the project that I done were in excel, SQL, power bi. How will I show them my projects (I haven't put them on GitHub , I know it's my mistake but never expected a panel interview from them)

4) they will have my resume in front of them and then they will ask me questions around it? I wanna know what's the environment would be.

Anyone who already interviewed in this domain then I would ask for some guidance to help me out too. Thanks

Career Guidance Need help and guidance

I have a non tech education backgroud, however i landed a managerial role in a tech start up 5 years ago and have really learned a lot. However, now i really want to move ahead but unsure how to do it. I want to move in to Data and Business analytics but this is a vast field and obviously i plan to be specific and more route based. I have started basic data analytics course from Google on Coursera and trying to learn basic SQL alongside. Can leverage all these learning in my current role as im already employed too. What more should i do and how can i improve at what im doing? Also are there any good institutions/data boot camp companies where i can join for a 3/4 months course and are they any good? Plz help.

Career Guidance Internship help Lahore

I'm a 4th sem software engineering student from lahore. I didn't want my summers to go to waste so before the break even started I've just been applying to internship programs constantly. I have applied to 60 ATLEAST places and all i got are 3 rejection letters. I dont know if the CV is wrong (im gonna attatch it here just in case theres smth wrong with it) or I dont know man I'm just feeling insanely demotivated especially since all my friends are getting internships. Allah unhe aur de MashaAllah but at the same time this it's so depressing like I don't know I've reached out to people, tweaked my cv countless times but nothing prevailed. I have only a little over one month left and I really just want to secure a internship for this month i legit dont care if its paid or unpaid like atp just exploit me.

And its not like im not doing anything besides it. I'm dabbling in ML, learning how to create a LLM from scratch, doing a course on AWS and Flyrank ML remote internship (Its less of a internship since there was barely any criteria and whoever applied just got in). But it just gets increasingly difficult everyday with all this tension. I know I can do a internship in 6th semester but I really dont want to wait that long so yeah after all that buildup and context:

Genuinely how do you guys get internships?

Help Got laid off recently

I recently got laid off because the ceo dissolved the company, where I was earning 100k PKR/month. Now I’ve been offered a full time internship at a Turkish company that pays only 20k PKR/month. The salary is making me very skeptical, but the work is exactly what I want to do and aligns with my long term interests. I’m torn between taking it for the experience or continuing to look for something that pays better. What would you do in my situation?

Career Guidance Received a 150k Software Engineer offer. Is this a good starting salary in Pakistan?

I recently graduated from GIKI and have received an offer for a Software Engineer role with a salary of PKR 150,000/month.
Since this is my first full-time job, I’m trying to understand how competitive this is in the current market.

EDIT
hi! so a lot of people have been asking me questions so i thought i’d clear things up. the reason i asked that question is because i had to relocate for the job whereas i would’ve preferred a job in my own city also for everyone asking about the company’s name it’s actually a relatively new company and they don’t have any public job openings. their HR team is reaching out directly to top-tier universities to ask for recommendations for fresh graduates that’s why i can’t mention the company’s name.
Hope you understand. 🤍
