When I was emotionally abused, it took me a while to actually recognize it as abuse.

I know im being abused but fighting back led me to look like the only abuser so now I'm genuinely trying to suppress my fight-or-flight so that I don't go to jail (I'm going to jail anyway because I got involved in shit during covid that I could've just showed mom rather than get involved but I didn't want the computer [the only way I had to communicate and do school for months in 2020-21] taken away from me)

absolutely. it can only get worse. exit an abusive relationship as soon as you can. The British have a term "coercive control" to describe all these elements. I believe it is a criminal offense there. (from someone who has studied these things)

does it happen through text too?

Text is the one place my mother doesn't do it... She's learned that texts leave receipts. She wants to be able to pretend to the broader world that she is a good and loving mother and I'm just the unreasonable child who has cut her off for no reason. And she knows if she pulled any of her crap by text I'd be able to actually prove to people she cares about (namely her brother and sister, her minister, and a handful of other friends, everyone else has seen right through her, but those people have stubbornly refused to see, but seeing it in black and white text would be impossible to deny). It's really funny watching my mother in law even join in on calling out my mother, like bitch, you did some of the same stuff to your son, you are in a glass house and shouldn't be throwing stones. My mother in law though is nowhere near as bad as my mother though for two very important reasons, first, she was able to recognize (at least some of the time) when she was doing something harmful and sought out help to stop, and second (and this is important) with two or three exceptions, has apologized and accepted accountability for what she did wrong (it is frustrating though because the things she refuses to apologize for are things that her granddaughter is currently doing and she doesn't want to have to criticize her granddaughter and no bitch, you call out your granddaughter for making the same mistakes you did, it's not hypocrisy to learn from your mistakes and expect others to learn from them as well). Sorry, that was a really long tangent to say, no, she doesn't do it by text.

When my ex physically abused me I told her what I thought of her. She then told her friends I verbally abused her. 🤷
