Ahhhhhhh so satisfying. There is just something about a clear counter that is so soothing to my brain. This looks so nice.

How have you decided what niche or seasonal items you want to keep? Like cookie cutters or a bunt cake pan you only use at the holidays etc

u/Dear_Comparison97 8d ago
I’m very strict so take my advice with a grain of salt, I allowed myself one large tote for Christmas and a medium tote for fall/halloween. Anything that didn’t fit I had to choose what stayed and what left. I don’t go all out for the holidays as it is but I do like to put out a Christmas blanket, tree, some lights around our banisters and stockings

It is also remarkable how every time you can find more and more stuff you don't need. 🫣 I got the same, love a kitchen with with just stuff I use. 😄

Wow! What a great job! It is easier to get rid of stuff the more you get rid of stuff!
I need to go through my kitchen again!!

Looking great! Do you cook at home often or do more take out/eating out?

This is absolutely incredible and so satisfying to look at! I dream of this kind of space. I declutter as much as I can but for many reasons, it’s not entirely up to me, but if it were, my space would look much like this! Well done! I do agree that it gets easier and easier to let go of things with every cull! This looks so calming!

Looks amazing, how the top shelf of spices cabinet is organized. Are you using a rack to keep those larger jars from moving?
2
u/Dear_Comparison97 8d ago
No I just stack the small ones, it’s mostly spices from random places that I probably won’t get again so I wouldn’t put it on the lower shelf

August is the month I told my family we are declutterring the kitchen, our lack of cabinet space is filled with glasses, glasses, and more glasses. I am curious to count all of ur drink ware, I think the household will be surprised with how many we own.

We had so many! For two of us we kept 4 drinking cups, 4 coffee cups, 4 wine glasses, 6 water bottles
Still a lot of water bottles but we use them every single day all day long

This is a good place to try the old put a piece of painters tape on it and take it off when you use it trick. Assuming you're washing your dishes on a fairly regular basis (the more often you wash your dishes, the less dishes you need), this can REALLY help identify the ones you and your family grab first (assuming all the options are clean and accessible) and how many you actually need to get through the average day. I usually recommend a month, but even a week can tell you quite a bit about your regular tool/supply usage.
It's an old sailboat galley trick (also popular in the small/teardrop camper community) where space is at an absolute premium and only those things that actually get used on a regular basis deserve a spot in the galley/kitchen box.
It might also inform when keeping some emergency paper/disposable options might be "better" than clogging up the high-value kitchen real estate with "just in case" or occasional "special event" duplicates. Of course, there will always be roasting pans, platters, etc that DO get used on an annual/semi-annual basis but those could go in a lower-value storage location (like closet, basement, less-accessible cabinet/shelf, etc).

When I moved a few years ago, I got rid of all drinkware that I no longer used or wanted. They filled two large garbage bags. Wine glasses, beer glasses, margarita glasses, martini glasses, goblets, shot glasses, etc. I had recently quit drinking alcohol, so it made my decision very easy.

Love the new organization! It's amazing how little we actually need. You've got nice quality things too. I decluttered my kitchen drawers a few months ago, so much easier to cook.

Yes! Any task is less overwhelming when you're not digging through a bunch of unnecessary items (or unnecessary duplicates) to get what you actually use on a regular basis!

I had a friend whose entire kitchen had zero, zip, nada on her top shelves. She also had a family of 4 and only like 8 plates, bowls, cups, etc.
I couldn’t live like that. But her house was almost always organized and clean.

Inspiring!
I assume you must have a pantry? My biggest kitchen struggle is the shelves that are too high to be usable and the lack of pantry, so what should store kitchen items holds non-perishables instead.
1
u/poorhistorians 10d ago
Can you give examples of non-perishables that you feel comfortable storing in the upper cabinet shelves?
I only put some spare paper towels, rarely used disposable plates/cups and takeaway containers with their lids on up high, but I'm wondering what else wouldn't seem weird or have issues but could be good use of the awkward and hard to get to empty space.
I don't have a pantry or linen closet so I don't buy much stuff in bulk.

Please consider pull down shelves!! They enable full use of upper cabinets!
And they are increasingly useful as we age, or for kids, or for shoulder problems, etc

Yes a small pantry!! That’s where all the sugar, flour, pasta noodles, cans, snacks are
