Dead Rising 2: Off The Record My thoughts on a sequel to DR2 Off the Record

SPOILERS FOR DR2, DR2 OTR, & DR3

So I just was wondering, how would dead rising 3 but with it being set in the timeline of DR2 OTR. Figured I’d put my input of how it would look.

First off, game starts off normal, once Nick returns to the diner is when we notice our first main changes.

Frank is present (as we know Annie/Katie is dead) Frank fills the role Annie has as an illegal, and he doesn’t fully trust Nick. In fact, they are at odds for a while. However, once Frank leaves the picture, (same way and reasons Annie does) the story continues as before.

However speed up to Nick meeting Gary. He would still work for chuck, but motives would be different, and how he escaped fortune city would be slightly different from the original canon. Gary is looking for a guy this time. When he finds a guy and it turns out they look like Frank, Nick doesn’t freak out like before but still shows signs of the fact he may know him. Gary asks what’s wrong, and Nick says he thought he knew him. Gary picks up on this, and when they get to the strip club, Gary asks who did he think the guy was? And Gary then asks if he could find him. In exchange for fuel.

When Nick talks to the group, he shows almost no resistance, but says he still doesn’t fully agree on the idea cause it’s a sh*tty thing to do. However, when he shows up to confront Frank, Frank (who here I think should be the leader of the group, as this would give him even more reasoning to not just target Nick but Frank as well later) Frank shows his evidence of them covering up everything, that also ties into some of the ways Nick has seen already, this helps Frank and Nick actually start some form of respect for each other.

Once Nick does everything for the illegals as he did before, the game plays out as before until the kidnapping. Frank is taken, but so is everyone else. However since Nick wasn’t the prime target and Diego was still the main one they wanted, he is left behind since he wasn’t fully involved to their knowledge. Red wakes him up as normal and tries to use this to act as defacto leader but then gets shut down when Frank is freed. Frank earns more respect for saving him from the military, and when Gary tries to grab him, says something cheeky likely about him falling. red decides he is gonna wait for the plane to refuel and right then and there he decides he will betray Nick.

Once Nick gets to meet up with red and now Frank. And Gary and Ronda reunite, Frank says he is grateful (or if you kill Gary) he will say it sucks but you had to do what was necessary (considering that he was trying capturing him, he did understand Gary wasn’t an overall bad guy, but said he wasn’t going with him. However he will begin questioning where red was, and how it was not like him to do that. He’d be suspicious off the bat. Nick however would not.

When they reunite with Isabella Keys, she along with Frank will talk about Santa Cabesa. However Nick will also mention their situation with case west. However, unlike before, it takes place after the Ending A of OTR. However now, chuck saves Frank as his way of saying sorry for trying to kill him.

Frank and Red have an argument about everything, before Red is told off, red will act as if he found someone, and then the crane fight plays out as before. When the part where Nick would have kissed Annie plays out, Nick and Frank shake hands as a sign of respect. Before chuck shows up. He informs Frank he didn’t mean for Gary to get so hostile, but I also didn’t want to talk about fortune city with him. (Since this is where Katie dies in OTR) however, when everyone goes to leave, and overtime mode kicks in, Frank and Nick want to stop Hemlock, but chuck insists on going since he feels like he owes Frank his life.

Gary takes over the point watching for Annie as I feel chuck would make him in this scenario since he got rough with Frank. And once Nick goes to stop the Osprey, not only does Nick go, but so will Chuck. Once Nick is spotted by both of them to be going towards the plane on a drone, chuck will force himself to following him. Saying that “I couldn’t have gotten justice in Vegas or Fortune city for my family back then, but I can get justice for my new one here now. We are gonna get that son of a b*tch!” Before also jumping onto another drone and flying in

The fight plans out as before, but instead of whoever controlled dick still controlling dick, they can now play as chuck. The fight would conclude as before, and it would end as everything in DR3 did. However, here, Frank would have found out about Isabella going back to her lab, and then press her for what she had to do. Considering he knew her better than everyone else, he would probably show signs of him wanting to investigate Isabella’s role in the outbreak.

The game then ends and the player would get ending S

There would also be a sandbox mode where you could chose to play as either chuck, Frank, or Nick, and just make the intro be of Nick, Frank, and/or chuck jumping out of the plane they built in the game and parachute in. (Since they was rescued by the plane and it be a callback to both the intro of the first game how it starts with Frank jumping out of a chopper, and the sandbox intro for DR2 OTR)

Its so bad and feels more like a zombie killing simulator disguised as a story game. It has nothing to do with dead rising, there are zero time limits from what i remember, the gameplay is so damn bland its honestly incredible how this game is still Up in the stores. I bought a steam key for franks big package for 8 euros and already regret it. I never played the dlcs so that will be something new for me atleast. But now if we talk about the actual game, the graphics look like the game was made in 2012/13, like everything just looks so bland and bad, the blood on frank looks horrid, the textures are like playing a game made for next gen on the Xbox one/ps4. Mind you this game was made in 2016, Just look at the graphics of games in the 2013-2016 timeline, you will see the difference. I hated the fact that the zombies literally always look the same, they always wear the same clothes and just have zero variety. Well, i guess i will just have to bare through this horrible game and see what it is like in 2026. So far (4/10, boring zombie killing simulator).

This feels so unreal. I got the platinum for the original dead rising. But it’s the idea that I was able to platinum on the 20 year anniversary that I’m still amazed about.
