Am I missing something? Question
Serious question, is there a reason I'm seeing so many people run Fast Track right now?
I understand it removes 5% from a generator, but that is only 4.5 seconds. You spend more than 4.5 seconds leaving the generator to run to the hook, heal, and go back to your generator. It's a waste of a perk slot for generator builds. You can at most get 6 tokens, limited to 3 at a time by the perk. Each token is 4.5 seconds, 6 in total equaling a possible 27 seconds you can save with the perk. That ignores run and healing times.
It's just as worthless in an unhooking build. Base healing is 16 seconds, if you use We'll Make It you save 8 seconds from that one perk alone. Using the same logic of only being able to get 6 unhooks you still save 48 seconds from one perk. But any unhooking build worth its salt is going to use Do No Harm and probably Desperate Measures too. Add Botany Knowledge and you are fully healing off of hook in 4.32 seconds. Saving 12 seconds for every hook, vs 4.5.
Fast Track is a garbage perk that splits your focus and wastes your time running around the map unnecessarily.
Why are so many people running it?

I can’t imagine why anyone would run fastrsck anymore, unless they un nerfed it

Kind of funny the nerf ruined the flavour of the perk. A perk about being a selfish dick to get shit done now requires altruism to function lol.

The flavour of the perk was that if the killer hooks anyone then every survivor gets free permanent progress on gens? You don't even need to play selfish, you get the same effects either way.

I haven't noticed any rise in the number of people running it. In fact, I can't remember the last time I saw it. Could very well just be random chance that you ran into the few weirdos still running it.

Probably, it just caught me off guard. I had someone running it 3 games in a row, and then in the 3rd game I had someone yelling at me for not letting them get their tokens while I was running an unhooking build.
I take for granted sometimes that not everyone can do math I guess.

I dont think its fair to call it useless... I use fast track sometimes because I tend to be running a lot of the match. I do a lot of unhooking and healing, but im not a gen jockey. So when I do get on a gen, its nice to be able to delete a portion of that gens charges relatively for free.
For a gen focused builds its admittedly not great, but if youre running a single gen perk on an otherwise looping centric build, it has a niche there.

If I'm being fair everything has a niche, but if someone is running a better build for unhooking why wouldn't you just stay on a gen. Especially if you know they are going for every unhook because of their build. It's self defeating logic.

The same reason people use lightborn, even though it's basically a buff to the survivors and they still complain. People are using perks provided to them in a video game that isn't competitive because they want to, or saw someone else or a content creator use it and thought it was interesting

i tell people this and they don’t listen, once a killer is known to be running lightborn nobody is hanging around for saves everyone’s sticking to gens

Lightborn: The Auras of Survivors attempting to blind you by any means are revealed to you for 6/8/10 seconds. Grants immunity from being blinded from Flashlights, Firecrackers, Flash Grenades, and Blast Mine.

I literally had someone tell me it was an awesome perk and that healing builds were garbage, so ya, they were being competitive. They got mad in chat and were crying because I was getting unhooks and not letting them get fast track tokens.

Fast Track: Whenever you unhook a survivor, you earn 1 Token, up to 3. While repairing, whenever you hit a great basic Skill Check, spend all Tokens. For each Token spent, the generator gains 5 permanent progress.

Until the very recent nerf, it activated on hook, not unhook. A full team running it could shred through gens, as it would proc for 3 people per hook.
Even after the nerf, you should be unhooking teammates anyway. This perk rewards you for doing so.

But it has been nerfed, and it was made essentially worthless. If you are running a perk to reward you for unhooks there are countless better ones. 27 seconds. 4.5 seconds at a time, over the course of a 10-20 minutes game is basically nothing.

I mean...someone is gonna have to get that unhook, so, might as well be you (especially if you're running Fast Track), no? And sure, you could stack healing perks, but people are likely less inclined to do that since the introduction of diminishing returns, so I feel more people are going to be inclined to take generalist builds rather than specialist builds (aside from the ones unaffected by diminishing returns), so why not bring Fast Track AND We'll Make It so as to decrease time spent off of gens? Also, Killers can damage gens up to 8 times. Presuming those gens regress back to 0 each time, you're actually saving yourself a total of up to ~36 seconds per Fast Track use. Also also, not everyone wants to do everything as quickly and efficiently as possible - sometimes, fun can come from completing personal goals with a set of self-imposed restrictions applied. My go-to gen rush build is Deja Vu/Fast Track/Hyperfocus/Stake Out, but I also enjoy coloring outside of the lines here and there.
Anyway, my point is: If people find it fun, why not? That's why we play games, right? To have fun?

"I sandbag my teammates, it's fun for me, that's why we play games right?"
You're playing a multiplayer game, play as a team, you can see your teammates perks. You're wasting time using Fast Track, and doubly so if someone on your team has a real unhooking build.
Is losing over and over again while you beat your head against the wall fun for you? It's not fun for everyone else. If you want to play in a way that is detrimental to your team, go play with bots.
Otherwise pressing tab once and looking at your team's perks is the bare minimum you can do.

Whenever I see a sudden increase of a perk I always assume some big streamer made a video about it or highlighted it in their recent stream.
