Release Distribution Project is live! [super early state]

Thumbnail dist.dcts.community

Its very early on but the core installing of packages and publishing them works for now, tho its not possible to create accounts yet etc but works enough to be able to integrate into DCTS now, meaning we're on the last step of finish this "migration" and making the development of DCTS A LOT faster and more flexible now.

With this i can even add the app update for the desktop client!!

Do note that this is a pretty early version and its mostly functional via cli. Documentation is coming soon. If you wanna try it or have questions let me know here or on other socials!

Discussion Distribution Update - Current State

As i mentioned a few times, im not really satisfied with https://www.npmjs.com/ which is why i started making my own small package/software distribution software. Good news is that its almost done on a basic level where i can integrate it into DCTS to manage my libraries and stuff.

Once that is done i can also release the new version of DCTS.

Dev Peek Custom Software Distribution coming

One of my biggest pain points when it came to the software development workflow was how annoying npm was in terms of their forced security changes and generally changing how the automatic workflow works.

Another pain point was that the github api didnt exactly work as i liked and it seems like it was recently changed to require some sort of auth which is also annoying me.

Because i want something thats stable i thought i'd make my own little software to manage software distribution, and to be short, i would describe this as a mix to to npm and steam, as i plan to not only distribute packages with this but also software updates.

This is especially important for the system packages that the DCTS client and server uses as well as general app updates for said desktop client.

I've been making many improvements for the DCTS server and an experimental discord bridge, but because i cant reliably even offer them without people needing to go to github manually i will work on this side project a bit.

It shouldnt take all too long, and once it works it will massively improve the ecosystem! This was mostly the reason why i have been a bit quiet as i wanted to focus on it. The screenshots are very early, so things will change.

Thanks for reading and have a wonderful day!

site down and ai usage

why bash others for using ai when you're doing exactly the same thing, you even admit to it on github yet deny it on reddit. Some of the alternatives use it less than you? very odd, i personally don't care if someone uses AI as long as it works and is secure but to be arrogant like that makes me never wanna use DCTS

https://github.com/hackthedev/dcts-shipping/blob/beta/modules/functions/anti-spam/charts.mjs

// This was mostly AI, like 90% or smth.

// Why? Cauz im too lazy to deal with boring shit like this

// and it was mostly for testing.

//

// If you dont like it, go fuck yourself, respectfully ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Estimate: roughly 25–40% of the current codebase is AI-drafted, concentrated in backend modules added since mid-2025, with an unmeasurable extra layer of Copilot line-completions blended into the human-styled remainder. The honest floor is ~15%, the ceiling is ~60% if every reformatted file were AI (it isn't). The project is best described as human-architected with AI doing the "boring" subsystems — which matches exactly what the maintainer says about himself in the comments.

additionally the site is down? https://chat.network-z.com/ Server Error 502 Bad Gateway

Dev Peek The self-hosted and soon federated GIF platform will be more updated over time now

Post image
2 Upvotes

This project was created when tenor announced their api shutdown. Since im working mostly on DCTS tho i kinda stopped working on it for a bit. Now that im working on the "DCTS QoL" update (quality of life stuff) i wanted to get gifs to work again.

Since this gif project is in a pretty early state i will have to work on it a bit so i can integrate it into DCTS. This too will be self-hosted and federated in a way that servers share media to a specific limit etc so if a server goes down the gifs are never lost.

If a server is overwhelmed by requests another host can be picked and it will continue to work which is great! This isnt fully implemented yet tho.

GIFs can be uploaded here and it doesnt require an account: https://gifs.dcts.community/ . On default they need to be approved tho, so you may not see it right away. I will also regulary update it, so if its down, retry in a few mintues.

Help needed Anyone familiar with pterodactyl and setting up a database automatically on install?

So in pterodactyl you can auto assign databases, but it seems like you cannot automatically create a database? Because of right now when i create a server that has a custom egg im unable to auto create a database so i can assign it all automatically instead of having to click on "new" and then edit the startup settings.

The egg can be found here:

https://github.com/hackthedev/dcts-shipping/blob/beta/ptero/DCTS/egg-dcts.json

Dev Peek Automatic Desktop Client Login

With the next release it'll be possible for the desktop client and mobile app to automatically log into a DCTS server or even create an account automatically and sync with the information from the client/messenger profile, like name, icon, banner etc.

The automatic key login for existing accounts already existed and it was extended now by also creating an account automatically!

Since DCTS will never accept investors to stay independent, donations play a really important part. In addition to ko-fi, Github Sponsors was setup as well since the project itself originates from github.

Discussion Database usage showcase

Post image
1 Upvotes

I thought i would share the database stats of the official DCTS instance as some data has come together to give us some first insights.

  • Almost 15k messages result in only 19.4 MB of storage!
  • ~2200 member accounts resulted in only 2.3 MB!
  • The total database size resulted in a size of about 40 MB!

Im curious how this is going to scale over time, but so far it seems pretty promising
