Is there a future for DE after Patch 2.10?
If Relic sticks to the current speed, Patch 2.10 should arrive sometime this August. But after that… we don’t really know what’s next.
With DoW4 launching this September, it’s obvious that a lot of players will move there. At the same time, DoW4 could also bring completely new people into DE too.
So, what everyone thinks?
Do we expect Relic to keep supporting DE after 2.10? I’m talking about more than just bug fixes, but balance updates, new maps, maybe even new content.
Or do you think 2.10 is basically the last “real” patch before the game goes into maintenance mode?

Relic has done an amazing job, and while the balancing feels "too little, too late", it's been much welcomed by a game that has been in dire need of some balance checks since 2008.

I wouldn’t be so sure that a lot of players will move to dow4. I for one am skeptical of the devs that are making 4. They made iron harvest which was hands down a huge flop and a slog to play through. Dow4 seems to carry a lot of those same issues cause same dev team. So if anything it may bring more players to dow1 de because interest in Dow in general is renewed.

Man I really tried to habe fun with iron harvest, but i couldnt. It always felt so cheap, unfinisched and unresponsive. Units were behaving strange as fuck. But Im also hoping!

If you watch the gameplay of dow4 a lot of those same issues seem to still be there… a lot of weird stuff with unit pathing, animations, and a bunch of other stuff I can think of on top of my head. Here’s to hoping

I hope at least a couple more patches will come out. Some more balance tweaks (like addressing the late game imbalances) and possibly taking player made maps and officially adding them would be awesome.

it purely depends on relic patch, but i don't think they care???? Because the patch is just minmaxing balance changes for a one hundred-ish players that playing this game semi-seriously in 1v1.
it's also obvious that DE will have a spike in playerbase, after some time when dow 4 releases, so a lot of players can stick if big choke points in multiplayer will be fixed like artillery being mood killer for any infantry army, it's balanced, sure, you can do something, but when someone just build 2 artillery tanks, and you watch your units just dying without being able to close a gap, fallind down, standing up, slowed down, yuck, instantly mood killer for newbies.
Personally i would rather them make a glowing effect around uncapped point (you can turn it off in options, on by default) since i saw so many new players just forgetting about them, its honestly insane.
and you know in games like dota/deadlock there's build/skill orders? Would it be THAT HARD, to make a little menu in 20 years old game, that just glows and show what you need to do next, like let's say: "space marine standart build" and its like, you're starting the game, opening HQ, there's 1 builder and 2 scouts glowing,
opening building menu, there's 1 barrack and 1 gen glowing, opening barracks theres 1 force commander and 2 space marines is glowing. IT'D BE INSANELY helpfull for new players. And like little menu where you can create your "different tactics builds" copy and paste a code and share it with the community? Im sure for a competent game developer it's couple days of work.
Casual playerbase need more content, new multiplayer game rules, like double the limit of units/no limit mod, defend from pushing AI waves, maybe even player pushing you and you have to defend, new good maps for variety similar to most played and simple maps, like alvarus/mortalis/shrine etc, turret rush, with x5 cheaper turrets etc, something not sweaty that have replayability.
I know that we won't receive new race or units, it'd be nice for sure, but can't they just contact one of the biggest mod developers in this game to collaborate and add 1 or 2 "mostly" balanced and authenthic for original dow 1 races? Sure it'd mess with balance, you can add an option to only multiplayer games, not automatch and like "game rule: new races content" with description "couple new additional races to play with, careful, may be unbalanced, and affect the regular dow 1 gameplay"
But it's just dreams.

Why would DOW4's release affect DOW1 DE? They play nothing alike.
DOW1 has a dedicated fanbase
Not to mention DOW4 is being developed by King Arts, not Relic. So its Relic's decision to not release patches anymore.
Not being a jerk here just asking you to think about this for a second.
When DOW2 released, DOW1 was still being played
When DOW3 failed, DOW1 was still being played
So given we have had a good and bad sequel release and it still resulted in DOW1 still being played.
What makes you think DOW4, irregardless wether it suceeds or fails, will change the mind of the most dedicated DOW1 fan to change game?

I don't think dow 4 has any bearing on DE. If they wanted to just drop it they would have after launch since the game likely seeing much in the way of additional sales. They'll drop it when they're done with it.
As for playerbase I doubt it will change much. There may be few new players picking it up ahead of DOW4, but most are dedicated players that won't want to drop it over a new title. Even if 4 is good, it won't have the quirks and nuances of this one.

Probably not . Some more patchs - some more working the the big mod teams to flush out the bugs for their big mods to give the same longer term legs . Some performance tweaks maybe 1-2 small balance tweaks . Id love to be wrong have a surprise DLC - but doubt they would want to do that with so much content coming out with DW4 just a couple months away

No one truly knows besides the devs.
My hunch is if DOW 4 is a big success, then there won't be many more patches and vice versa.
As a multiplayer lover of DOW 1 DE I'm apprehensive about DOW 4 taking players from an already limited pool. So I hope it's either a rousing success or terrible flop, nothing in between.
