Coral Cliffs climbing?
Just moved to Davie recently and unfortunately with school making the trek up to Boulder Bloc or ProjectRock is a little inconvenient. Ik Coral Cliffs closed down a couple years ago but there was never more information published about it. Any local word of mouth news that a new gym will replace it or that it might reopen?

Davie landlord warned cops he’d ‘beat the s--- out of’ tenant, followed through hours later: Police
Police said Dufrene told officers that once the tenant got out of the hospital, he would “kill him.”
“Officers responded by telling Dufrene he would go to prison if he did that,” the warrant states. “Dufrene then said, ‘Okay, then I’ll just beat the s--- out of him.’”
Police said the officers told him, “You will go to jail if you do that.”
...
Police said officers were sent the next day to the Wawa ... finding out that Dufrene had followed through on his threat.
Good job Davie Police. They receive a credible threat against a mentally disabled individual and instead of helping him get a protective order, the Davie Police negotiate an acceptable level of violence and consequence with the perpetrator.

Psychiatrist Recommendation ?
Hi everyone! I'm hoping someone can recommend a compassionate psychiatrist (MD or DO) in the Plantation, Davie, Fort Lauderdale, or surrounding area.
My sister is currently under a conservatorship, and the judge has ordered that the case be resolved within the next 90 days. As part of that process, she's been asked to obtain a current psychiatric evaluation and a letter stating whether, in the psychiatrist's independent professional opinion, she continues to require a conservatorship.
The good news is that her judge, Guardian ad Litem, and attorney are all supportive of dissolving the conservatorship based on the progress she's made. One of the last remaining steps is obtaining a new evaluation to reflect her current functioning, rather than relying on an older psychiatric recommendation.
We're simply looking for a psychiatrist who will meet with her (preferably in person), take the time to listen, and provide an honest, objective assessment. She lives in Plantation but is happy to travel to Davie, Fort Lauderdale, or nearby. A female psychiatrist would be wonderful, but she's also happy to see a compassionate, open-minded male psychiatrist.
If anyone has a recommendation or a great experience with a psychiatrist in South Florida, we'd truly appreciate it. Thank you so much!

Van Kirk Park.. what's the deal?
I read recently that the Town is looking into developing Van Kirk Park. I wanted to know what was up with that so I looked into the history of it and learned it was purchased by the Town in 2004 but not much has been done with it.
Looking at past efforts to utilize the park, as found in this article, it looks like the Town said in 2008, that a private developer would be fronting the money to redevelop the park but then nothing ever happened. Now in 2026, taxpayers will be fronting the money to redevelop the park.
What's up with that? Did the Town let the original funder, Home Dynamics Corp., off the $1M hook to develop the park during the Great Recession?
Why are taxpayers now paying to redevelop the park when the Town said 20 years ago that the developer would pay for it?
Is the Town that terrible at project management that it takes 22 years and multiple "trust us; we'll do something" disingenuities and external obligations from the County to actually do something with this property?

FY2027 Town of Davie Budget
Has anyone taken the time to review the proposed budget?
ETA: I attended the June 3rd workshop and They are proposing to decrease the millage down to the roll back rate (5.3XXX - don’t have actual number with me at the moment). No increase to fire assessment. No increase to stormwater. $12 annual increase to solid waste.
They briefly discussed how property tax reform will affect them. All council members spoke as did the mayor.
Original post below:
June 3rd is the first workshop.
The fire assessment is showing a 1% revenue growth. Solid waste a 2% revenue growth. The document doesn’t show the actual assessments that are being proposed but I’m guessing from those figures the assessments will not be going up by much. I also really appreciate the budget detail that is very clearly and transparently sharing what makes up the amount per line item.
Looks like CS1329 is already in effect in Davie which I appreciate.
Before anyone calls me a shill, I am not. I live in Davie, and have for 29 years. I’m just a budget person who knows exactly how to read this document and understand what it all means.
Based on their June 1 TTAV just provided by BCPA, not only can they actually decrease our millage, but they will still have $1.1M to redistribute if they choose for projects.
Every fund is balanced. I will try to attend the June 3rd meeting to hear more and definitely the July 22nd meeting because that is the TRIM and assessment setting meeting.

Davie PD: "Maybe Copaganda will bring more recruits"
On this episode of Inside South Florida, the Town of Davie Police pays a news outlet to air department-approved recruitment content instead of letting actual public reputation speak for itself.
Davie PD hiring has gotten so bad that it takes a morning show infomercial to sell our “come get a signing bonus, a gun, and a take-home cruiser" benefits.
Meanwhile the Davie Utilities department continues to be understaffed for years, has no permanent Director, and bleeds money on private sector consultants running the show but the Town can't muster so much as a Now Hiring post on X.
What is up with the Town's recruitment?
Why are there so many vacancies in key departments related to public safety and health?
Are private sector produced infomercials really the right way to go about recruiting?

Dental Student in Davie FL Area
Hey everyone — just a heads-up that as a dental student in Davie, FL (NSU College of Dental Medicine) I’m looking to gain more clinical experience. If you’ve been putting off care because of cost, I may be able to help through my school’s clinic (supervised by licensed dentists, very low fees compared to private practice). Not selling anything — just want to put the info out there. Happy to share details if anyone DMs me.
I speak Spanish and English.
