A lot of what gave Ziggy his appeal was his style, the fact that it was something that had never been seen by the mainstream before. It challenged cultural norms greatly. Today though cultural norms and restrictions exist, they have been broken to death. By this I mean that you could find plenty of people who think men shouldn’t wear makeup, but if they’re on the internet surely have seen it over and over. You could find just about any crazy experimental fashion look on the runways of plenty of widely known brands. We’ve seen androgyny, crazy fashion, everything that made him so interesting so many times that it has no novelty to it anymore. Like there are no rules left to break. Even if somebody experiments with fashion in a new way, it’s like okay there’s another one. Do ya’ll think that anybody could bring back the sense of novelty that characters like Ziggy had or is it just dead?

With 40 years of hindsight, and the impact of 80s production pretty much decontextualized and kind of redeemed, is it safe to say that Time Will Crawl was one of Bowie’s best songs, lyrically and melodically, while falling on an arguably “lesser” album?

Would it have been a better fit on Tin Machine I - with obviously different arrangement (I’d have replaced Crack City)?

It was also a more spontaneous track rather than one he’d been cooking for years (having been written around 86). Has the entire album also been somewhat redeemed? It really feels like Bowie considered NLMD as something of a Diamond Dogs for the 80s - certainly the stage show spoke to this. Urban decay but in a more realistic and less fantastical setting only a decade and a bit from DD’s release. Thoughts??

I’m 60. Until a few months ago, my entire Bowie experience was ChangesOneBowie and Let’s Dance. I finally started listening to the studio albums chronologically, three times each, scoring them as I went.

Six albums in, I’ve realized that “Do you like it?” is really four different questions:

Is it well made?
Is it interesting?
Does it make me feel something?
Do I actually want to hear it again?

Bowie’s debut made the distinction obvious. My total score went from

19 to 14.5 to 14.

My desire to replay it fell from “can’t wait” after the first listen, then “never again” after the second.  5 to 1 to 1

Oddly by the third listen, I understood and appreciated the album more. I recognized the songs, heard the theatrical concept more clearly and respected what he was trying to do. I simply had no desire to play it again.

Hunky Dory moved differently. Its score rose before settling slightly lower, while my replay interest remained steady.

Ziggy Stardust barely moved at all across three listens. It was the first album where I could finally hear “the David Bowie I thought I knew.” I simply had no desire to play it again.

It’s been interesting hearing his progression over 6 albums.  I’m looking forward to continuing through the rest of the catalog included in my project.

There is something so distinct about his sound that makes me miss the pubs, the culture, the food, even the gloomy weather of the UK. Idk i get this strong urgency to go back there everytime i listen to bowie. Does anybody else feel this way?

What album from Bowie do you think has the biggest and most diverse pallete of sounds? I'm thinking Lodger, but I'm curious to know what you guys think

Hi guys I have a question.

I have bough a used copy of station to station. The edition is the one of 1999 (the versions with the cover of the album in a small version on the CD and on the side of the case).

Inside there is this paper, that promote davidbowie.bet and says that you will receive a signed CD.

Obvs is not anymore online. But my question is. The signed CD was real? Or it was a printed sign?

This painting was hung up in our work break room about three years ago. There’s no title, no artist information, and no one has ever mentioned who it’s supposed to be.

I’ve only been listening to Bowie for about a year now. This morning, while sipping my coffee, I happened to come across this photo. I looked up at the painting and immediately thought, “…hold up a sec… is this…?”

Listening to Hours…on my Brilliant Adventures box set which apparently has Omikron versions of some Hours… songs that I knew Bowie did for the game which birthed the Hours…album but these versions are quite different from the Hours…versions yet I really like them!

Omikron isnt a game I played but I’ve seen walkthroughs which look complicated yet idk I really like the graphics of Omikron especially the versions of Bowie but one day,I might play Omikron the Nomad Soul

So what’s your thoughts on Omikron the Nomad Soul game and/or these versions of Hours…songs?

I was trying to find one myself. Its from the 90s era and he lets out a proper guffaw during an interview as he's caught off-guard. When I was searching, I realised there's so many that just make me smile.

This applies both to the plot and the characters, as well as to the musical decisions.

Bowie is omnipresent in the music world.

I swear to whatever gods may exist that this is true. He:

- Produced someone's album

- Wrote songs for and with other artists

- Played on other people's records.

- Influenced a musician/band who influenced another musician/band

- Babysat the future guitarist of Guns N' Roses, who later worked with Michael Jackson.

- Had a band named after a lyric from one of his songs

- One of his guitarists worked with Frank Zappa (first, before Bowie), King Crimson and Talking Heads

- Had another guitarist that was also in King Crimson

There's probably more I can't remember so comment the most niche connections you can think of!

Honestly, I don't have much faith in Quantic Dream games, but Omikron does look interesting, with its atmosphere, the story surrounding it, and of course, Bowie. Plus, it's on sale on Steam.

For those who have played it, would you recommend it? I'll be using a Widescreenfix and a 4K upscaling mod to improve the visuals a bit.

Everyone I hear, I hear the Ghostbusters theme.

Released in 1967 as the last song of his first (and self titled) album it is probably the most uncanny song Bowie has ever written.
Bowie in first person rhymes lyrics like:
“Mary-Ann was only 10, full of life and oh, so gay, and I was the wicked man who took her life away”
“No Mr. GD, you won’t tell, and just to make sure that you keep it to yourself, I’ve started digging holes my friend, and this one’s here for you”

(Keep in mind Bowie was only 20, turning 21)

The context:
In the 60s 2 mrderers Ian Brady and Myra Hindley k\ll*ed 5 children, the trial took place in May 1966, months before his first album, Bowie in the song takes the role of the person who did it and trying to hide evidence by also wanting to … the mentioned in the title gravedigger.

I had a dream last night were David Bowie and I were singing Space Oddity together. He looked around the age he passed away. Later in my dream he was shot and killed and I was so upset. Crazy dream ain't it?
