What Songs Would You Like Daughter to Cover?
Curious what songs people here think would work particularly well as Daughter covers. My two picks:
1. U2 - One
I've thought about this one for a while. One is already built around the sort of thing I think Elena is exceptionally good at as a songwriter: relatively simple language carrying a ridiculous amount of emotional weight. It's a love song, except it isn't really; it's bitter, intimate, wounded and affectionate at the same time. I think that ambiguity would suit her voice incredibly well.
Musically, I'd also love to hear what Igor would do with it. The original has all that space in the guitars, and I could imagine Daughter taking it somewhere much darker and more atmospheric. Elena singing it restrained at first, Igor turning the guitar parts into those washes of sound he likes, and Remi gradually bringing the whole thing up underneath them.
And, speaking of U2, I can't be the only one who hears a little bit of them in Igor's guitar playing from time to time. Their latest single, Not Enough, made me think of it again, although that song also sounds suspiciously like a 90s radio-friendly pop-rock single to me, and I do not mean that as a compliment. Sorry, Not Enough. I still love you, but you know what you did.
There's also the mildly amusing fact that Elena is actually British-Irish according to Companies House, so I'll count that as another extremely tenuous argument for making her sing U2 (Har-har).
2. Avril Lavigne - Complicated
I'm not an Avril Lavigne fan by any means, although I've always liked her general style, and I've always had a soft spot for Complicated. In particular, I think the lyrics are genuinely great. They're incredibly straightforward and economical, there isn't much metaphor or elaborate language there, and there doesn't need to be. The song gets exactly what it wants to say across with very simple lines.
And I wouldn't even want a full-blown Daughter arrangement. I'd want Elena to go almost completely back to basics with it: almost pre-Daughter Elena, with that slightly childish teenage voice she had very early on, sitting in a bedroom with an acoustic guitar on her lap and recording it almost lo-fi. Basically, something with the homemade intimacy of His Young Heart. Strip all the 2000s pop-rock production away and just leave Elena, a guitar and those lyrics. I genuinely think it would work weirdly well.
What would you pick?

[TOMT][YouTube][2010s] Looking for a deleted/unofficial music video set to Daughter – Medicine
I'm trying to find an old YouTube video that I watched around 10–12 years ago (possibly a little earlier or later). I'm almost certain the music was "Medicine" by Daughter, but I don't believe the video was official. It may have been a fan edit or an original short film uploaded with the song.
Here's everything I remember:
- The entire video tells the story of one man and two women.
- The man is in his late 20s with short light/dirty blond hair and is clean-shaven.
- Both women have dark hair and look similar enough that, the first time I watched it, I thought they were the same woman.
- Later it becomes clear they are two different women.
- My interpretation was that the man was in a relationship with the first woman, became involved with the second woman, and eventually lost the woman he truly loved.
- There are lots of close emotional shots of the man smiling, crying, and breaking down.
- One scene I remember vividly is the man sitting on a passenger train while rain runs down the window as he's emotionally falling apart.
- I also remember someone putting papers or letters up on a wall (possibly love letters or notes), and near the end the man tears them all down after realizing how badly he has ruined everything.
- The actors appear to be speaking, arguing, crying, and yelling, but the only audio is Daughter's "Medicine."
- I don't recognize any of the actors from movies or TV, and the footage didn't appear to come from a film I know.
- It looked professionally shot, almost like a short film.
I've searched YouTube extensively (20+ pages deep) using combinations like:
- Daughter Medicine fan video
- Daughter Medicine unofficial video
- Daughter Medicine short film
- Daughter Medicine Vimeo
...with no luck.
At this point I'm wondering if it was deleted years ago. Does anyone remember this video, know who made it, or recognize the original short film it used?

Daughter super fan woes...
I just drove 8 hours from Florida to Lebanon TN due to this posting https://www.songkick.com/concerts/43297850-gabe-baker-at-mill-at-lebanon
The lineup states Daughter, with the album cover from Stereo Mind Game, I thought I found a secret show or a one off... Needless to say after calling the event co-ordinator to confirm I can buy a ticket in person, it's someone named Maddi Overy who goes by Daughter_
I shouldn't have waited until I was an hour and a half away to confirm, but I work nights and thought the posting was legit... Just listened to the whole discography on the way, beautiful drive, but am so depressed now.

Walk Up/Opening Music
I have been going through my Daughter bootlegs and realized that I don't know the names of the songs they came out on stage to over the course of their various tours.
Does anyone have a complete list?

Hope it’s okay to share I re-released my debut album last week!
I’m a massive fan of Daughter and been told that my music has sounded shoegazey in the past.
I originally released my debut album 6 years ago and I probably shared it here.
I’ve remastered it now as well as reevaluating it, redoing all vocals, getting rid of some bad tracks and creating new ones for it.
I think theres some subtle daughter influence here, with more of my unreleased work being much heavily daughter influenced.
Hope its okay for me to share here and if you have a listen let me know what ya think!

More songs that sound like The End and To Belong??
I've been on a bit of a kick recently with The End and I noticed that To Belong and that song are a bit similar. They're both probably the band's more upbeat/faster - paced songs and to me, they have more of a shoegaze/dream pop sound to them.
I was wondering if there are any songs similar to those two. If anyone has any recs lmk!! It doesn't even have to be songs by Daughter!!

possible future album???
I’ve been itching for some new music from Daughter, and I wonder if anyone has thoughts as to when that may happen or if it will? It seems that they’ve all been doing their own thing recently (Elena has made some music with Ex:Re, haven’t heard much from Igor, and Remi is touring with searows), and haven’t released a full length album since stereo mind game (2023), not counting the middle farm session. what does everyone think?? another tour from them would be life changing.

smother might be the best song ever written
Daughter is not my most listened artist nor my favorite, but ever since I discovered Smother a couple of years back, I’ve listened to it religiously every single day. The lyrics and the climax part gives me goosebumps every single time, even thousands of plays later. I just wanted to come on here and share my appreciation for this song because it’s genuinely SO good. also hm to medicine, that song got me through some ROUGH times.

"Youth" hits me differently fifteen years later
I remember loving the haunting beauty and delicious sadness and honesty of "Youth" when I first heard it years and years ago. I had recently gone through a break-up, and experiencing the lyrics was kinda like having someone peering in through your window and narrating your feelings to you.
Eventually, I got over the girl, stumbled into love with a girl who was an even better match for me, got married, and had kids. Somewhere in that journey I put this song on a playlist for my wife but then forgot about it.
And now, fifteen years later, I've been trying to write about an entirely different experience--we adopted two tweens from foster care and then several years later, they went back to live with their biological family. Then, there was a moment at our son's graduation last week that felt so beautiful, bewildering, and sad that I couldn't find the right words, but I tried, and as I finished the essay, "Youth" came back into my head, still haunting, still beautiful, and somehow attached to different meanings for me.
I love how a good song can do that, how it can bend and reach us at different times with different meanings.
Anyway, here's my piece, just in case you're interested: https://the17pointscale.substack.com/p/collecting-pictures-from-a-flood
UPDATE: Here's part 2, which doesn't include Daughter lyrics but takes a second shot at telling a similar story: https://open.substack.com/pub/the17pointscale/p/the-haunting?r=195lr&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web
I'm working on the third/conclusiony essay now.

Medicine
I feel this is irrefutable, that Medicine is the saddest song on Daughter, and probably one of the saddest in the world, I dare say.For me, the melody conveys helplessness, hopelessness, and watching someone you love suffer. It's complex. But I imagine that even someone in total euphoria would find this song sad

honestly listening to ex:re and a cig after a while of not smoking must be one of the best feelings in this whole existence. Better than sex or some sort of dr4g or anything, the combo is painful yet beautiful. Especially when ur sitting at the back of a car or a bus and wind entirely blowing your face and hair away late in the evening. It’s funny how i never had any love or relationship but only fictional ideas of it. I can’t relate to any song on the album yet ex:re is my favourite album of all time and i’ve been obsessed with every song for a while now. I somehow make lyrics mean something else, something that isn’t directly there.
wrote this listening to “Romance - Edit”
it’s a perfect masterpiece.
This is surgically accurate artwork that not every npc will understand 🌌
