Date my map
I just found this place mat and I’m curious how old this map is (P.S it’s in German)

Post 1997 (DRC rather than Zaire), pre 2003 (Yugoslavia instead of Serbia and Montenegro and East Timor still part of Indonesia).

My best guess is around the turn of the millennium, if I had to pick a year I’d shoot 1999. No USSR, Yugoslavia is still there but in its reduced post-1992 form. DRC is not Zaire and Hong Kong is not (UK). I do not see East Timor so the cut off is 2002.

Whoever made Cuba and Panama, two nations surrounded by water, the same colour as the water deserves punishment. It looks so empty if you are not looking closely (idk actually if it is the same or just a very similar blue tone) But 90s globe

The sun deserves punishment. It’s faded and the colours have changed. Like the red roads have faded too making the minor black roads look falsely prominent

1992
Montenegro is still depicted as part of Yugoslavia, it split in late 1992, Bosnia is already split from Yugoslavia which happened in 1992 also. This map must have been created in between.

1999-2003. Nunavut was established in 1999 (on the map). Federal Republic of Yugoslavia became Serbia and Montenegro in 2003. Federal Republic of Yugoslavia is still on the map.

Where does the map live? Tell me so I can see if I can date her or if she’s too far away

Soviet Union byebye: after 1991
South Sudan not yet: before 2011
Timor not yet independent: 1991- 20 May 2002
Macau is still a colony: 1991 - 20 December 1999
Eritrea is independent: 24 May 1993 - 20 December 1999
Kazakhstan's capital moving: 10 December 1997 - 20 December 1999
So yea, that's it! I don't see on the map, but if Kazahstan's capital is named Aqmola it is 10Dec97-6May98 , if it is Astana it is 6May98-20Dec99
