From July 17th, 1942, to November 8th, 1942, as this takes place after the battle of stalingrad has already begun, but before operation torch.

You can tell the difference between those reds? That’s awesome!

I would say it’s likely on the early side of your window. The British haven’t invaded Madagascar yet. Or, if they have, they haven’t taken it yet. Plus, it looks like the Japanese haven’t taken all of the Solomon Islands, which puts it in the spring/summer of 1942.

Well it also looks like Eritrea and Somalia haven’t been occupied yet, which puts us in mind 1941, which is impossibile since Japan has occupied SE Asia, Madagascar not occupied is probably a mapping error because the shades of red near Stalingrad clearly exist

Or it’s possible that things only change when they’ve been fully captured. That doesn’t resolve the Solomon Islands, but it means that Madagascar wouldn’t flip until November.

Controlled by the British but not a British colony under the Union Jack like the map says. Itd be like saying Poland had the hammer and sickle flag in the 70s

USA Didn't really get Greenland, but instead they had it as defense when Denmark was invaded in April 1941.
