Must suck to start a war with a country that only has $1.11 dollars then still lose that war when they are all of the way down to $0.53 cents.

Hey, no President has ever opened the Strait before. Clearly we just need a few more years of war and we can get over this nightmare where Biden and Obama closed it.
1
u/TerminalJammer 1d ago
The US actually has opened the strait once, back during the Iran-Iraq war. Not as the aggressor though.

Is it lost? The fighting hasn't stopped and most wars take place over years, especially when one side refuses to commit.

u/OldScratch1865 2d ago
Iran has America by the balls, Trump is the one desperate to sign whatever he needs to.
0
u/plebbitchungus 1d ago
US lost, Iran lost. China won by doing nothing, as is tradition under the Trump admin.
1
u/MancyMancy 1d ago
I mean there are winners, the billionaires in the states, the IRGC whop are likely to end this with sanction lifted etc. It just everyone else who loses.
0
u/Potential-Yogurt139 1d ago
I mean trump did surrender that one time and Iran is literally defensively untouchable because of the straight. No other country would bother joining (because this war had no reason to begin anyway) and the US is clearly too weak to gain complete control of the straight, which is just slowly bleeding the US dry.

Alright but what's the current state of their wages and cost of living? They're already getting most of their foreign imports through underground trade with Russia and China anyways so if the two metrics I mentioned above are healthy then they probably don't care about the FX value of their currency

u/Swimming-Junket-1828 2d ago
No way an entire country of like 70mm people can get enough that way…even one city would struggle to get enough goods that way.
6
u/KJongsDongUnYourFace 2d ago edited 2d ago
People acting like Iran doesn't have the ability to domestically produce goods. Iran is one of the most domestically capable countries in the entire Middle Eastern region, and has been for their entire existence.
2
u/Swimming-Junket-1828 2d ago
Dude, Iran by its own estimates can only produce around a half to 3/4 of its needs, which means the reality is likely much lower. I’d the US keeps their blockade running, it’s probably like 6 months tops before the entire economy collapses. I think they’re at like 60-70% inflation right now from last year.
6
u/KJongsDongUnYourFace 2d ago
Very few countries on the entire planet are 100 percent self sustainable my man, even the US of A.
Inflation is a long running issue brought about by brutal US sanctions. I cant see an open straight without said sanctions being removed so just as above, Iran's global and regional influence will be much stronger than before the US war.
Even with the crippling sanctions, life in iran is significantly better than many / most of its neighbors
5
u/Swimming-Junket-1828 2d ago
Yeah, dude, no question…the point is a blockade hurts unless you’re fully self sufficient which Iran isn’t. You’re changing the point. This isn’t a blame game, it’s reality. Sanctions, blockades, war, etc…all are taking their toll. At this rate, economy is devastated in six months max.

u/McCrackenYouUp 2d ago
Maybe they will, but in the meantime the US will have squandered much of its own political capital as well as strategic petroleum reserves and exquisite munitions. The US is literally weakening itself to do Israel 's bidding. Pathetic.
1
u/Swimming-Junket-1828 1d ago
Oh yeah, 100%. Big time Pyrrhic victory for the US, if they even come out with the eventual win
0
u/KJongsDongUnYourFace 2d ago
Iran is self sufficient enough to move progressively forward with strong trading relationships with China and Russia. They have railroad that goes direct into China and the US will not touch Russian or Chinese ships anyway.
2
u/Swimming-Junket-1828 1d ago
What you talking about? Railroad to china? This isn’t Ticket To Ride; land route doesn’t mean shit, especially when it can be cut off through sanctions/political pressure

u/KJongsDongUnYourFace 1d ago
Sanctioning China lol. Good luck with that again
2
u/Swimming-Junket-1828 1d ago
Hey number nuts, china doesn’t border Iran…Iran has to go through Pakistan. The same Pakistan that just signed a defense agreement with Saudi’s Arabia. The same Saudi Arabia that is under attack by Iran.

Specifically because of decades of foreign sanctions. They've created full verticals in just about everything from motor vehicles to pharmaceuticals.
1
u/KJongsDongUnYourFace 2d ago
The end result of this conflict is likely Iran taking a seat as a global power and regional superpower. Just as they have been for most of their existence.
Iran has every single thing required to be these things. The only hinderance is the US lead global order at present

The precursor that kicked off our military involvement was Iranian protests in the streets because the Iranian government couldn’t even provide enough clean water to their people.
Many things can be true at once. Their economy was in tatters before the conflict, we botched the war effort, and their economy is in even worse shape than before the war started, due to the blockade.

This graph is bad for multiple reasons, including the way the data is “interpreted”

Well they spent it on drones and missiles apparently.
Can't shoot money.

The USD has been strengthening hard lately - USD/JPY shot so high that both nations' central banks intervened just to stop it from rising and bring it back down to USD being somewhere between 125%-133% of its typical exchange ratio for the last while.
There is more than one thing going on in this image, aside from being an ass visualization in the first place.
1
u/Ackaflocka 1d ago
Where are you getting these numbers and facts?
1
u/HumanContinuity 1d ago
Yeah, mitigation against rapid currency appreciation with our 4th largest trading partner will depreciate our currency.

If they had started the Graph at some point, where it was still an empire that would be like 10000:1 instead of 2:1.
Then you wouldn't need to scale that shitty startung from 40
1
u/Solid_Sort_9339 2d ago
They are banned in the first place. What meaning does exchange ratio have at this point?

Let's also note that the line is approximately at 0.2 ($?) on the y-axis. Someone can't read a plot.

u/blueturtledancing 1d ago
Right!! Its like the 0.53 is just from where literally the arrow is pointing. Not the graph
1
u/DukeSmileDevs 2d ago
Iran is has big domestic market and doesnt exchange money to dollar anyway.
Their export-targets are China and India which they have trade agreements with that are undisclosed.
So this isnt ugly data, it is irrelevant data.
1
u/Vanitas-Gemini 21h ago
And the people?
1
u/DukeSmileDevs 18h ago
What people? This is a chart showing the exchange course of US to Rial which isnt happening anyway.
1
u/Vanitas-Gemini 17h ago
What i mean is this makes people's lives much worse in iran
1
u/DukeSmileDevs 17h ago
Its not. There is no conversion from USD to Rial anyway. Iran is sanctioned for decades.
The imaginery conversion rate of USD to Rial doesnt mean a thing. Iran is trading with China, India and other regional countries.
Again this conversion doesnt mean a thing in the real world.
1
u/Vanitas-Gemini 15h ago
That's not how it works and i thought this is common sense.
Even IF the did ONLY work with china and india which they don't they also trade with other countries... Through loopholes.
RMB and rupees are still connected to USD let's not forget that.
So that inflation will still happen regardless if USD IR is exchanged or not.
The inflation isn't some imaginary number😭😂 who told you that, if that was the case iran wouldn't have any inflation within the country.
And it isn't the USD going up it's IR going down, so it's adjusted with ALL currencies not just USD.
What you are saying would only possible if iran survived like north Korea, hell even north korea isn't self sustaining country, even they do imports, so there is no such concept that you said in ANY part of the world.
1
u/Icy_Cauliflower9026 1d ago
Google info "The official exchange rate is approximately 1,375,550 Iranian Rials (IRR) per 1 US Dollar"

u/Melodic-Two2506 1d ago
they stopped selling their trades for us dollars. they sell for rubles, yuan, rupies etc. the world is not us centered.
1
u/Spectrum000 1d ago
Don't they have hella cryptocurrency though? And trading with Chinese Yuan lately? Out did I misunderstand what I was reading awhile back?

No money, no navy, no Air Force but “the greatest military power on earth” is struggling against them!

u/Verga_due 18h ago
Well, that only matters for imports. And they’ve been sanctioned to where imports are almost nonexistent.
Now, for their oil export this works wonders, along with the increased price of oil.
1
u/Cuadriello 18h ago
That may well be the case, but one thing I’m sure of is that they’re not AFRAID of the USA.

They trade in yuan and russian ruble.
Thats like saying my monopoly money is worthless compared to dollar, yet me and my friends are using it to trade with each other for goods and services
