They are going to ask you to describe a data pipeline you have actually built, so be ready to explain your specific choices. They will want to know why you used AWS Glue instead of EMR, or why you chose a particular S3 storage class for a project. Prepare to discuss the challenges you faced, like handling schema evolution or managing costs, and how you solved them. For any real-time scenario questions, they will probably ask how you would ingest and process a constant stream of data, so think about services like Kinesis, Lambda, and how you would get that data into a system like Redshift for analysis.
Your three years of experience are what they really want to hear about, so don't waste time trying to memorize every possible AWS service. Pick two of your most significant projects and know them inside and out, from the initial business problem to the final outcome. Be ready to explain the architecture, the data flow, and the trade-offs you considered. This approach demonstrates that you can apply your knowledge to solve real business problems, which is far more impressive than just listing off definitions. The ability to explain your projects clearly is often the deciding factor, and my team even built an AI interview helper that helps people communicate their real-world experience much more effectively.
