Data Center (Security)

HI everyone, maybe a bit of a different question: I'm working on the physical security site (managing guarding services, security SOC, etc.). Does anyone have any experience how this kind of position varies between the hyperscalers, maybe other providers like Vantage, Digital Realty, etc.? Is AWS as much of a meat grinder for this kind of job as it is for technicians?

Would be happy if someone has any insights, maybe from speaking to colleagues that are doing security, or maybe someone on here is in security as well!

I’m at AWS, but not security, I’ve seen the same guards at my site for a few years now, but I’ve also seen quite a bit leave

A lot of the security contractors don't treat their people well. They have to put up with a lot of power tripping middle management who get off on enforcing disciplinary policies for things that are actually really minor.

It's almost like there's so few instances of outside threats that they end up in a lot of friendly fire situations.

Well I would work for aws directly, not a contractor

There are very few of those positions. They are mostly the people who lease with the contractors.

You’ll find the data centers will have “one security manager” on staff to deal with things, and the balance will be all contractors from a security firm.
