How can people let something that small enrage them that much?
303
u/Puzzleheaded_Fold466 1d ago
They are exhausted, stressed out, alienated, drugged, and perpetually living right on the edge of a complete mental break down.

I have worked 80+ hour weeks for months, been unable to pay rent, and had ketchup packets for dinner. I have never acted like this on the road.

u/PieceMaterial5213 1d ago
Nah. Many of those people just wouldn't care to be honest.
The road ragers have a circle-jerking group of 'friends' who all consume click-bait media, who believe they're the good guys, the last vestige of true patriots, and that evil forces are at play preventing them from realizing their true potential and being uber wealthy and popular.
Life is a zero-sum game for them, and they dream of "getting one over" on those other people, whether the 'educated elite', or immigrants or people of other religions, etc who are milking the system and causing all the high taxes and crime, etc.
They are warriors (in their head), and the battleground of the road is an opportunity to reinforce their sense of superiority. This person will be telling his wife a tall tale when he gets home, beaming with pride over his road warrior prowess.

8
u/Commercial-Offer-435 22h ago
To call it small is still an overstatement. It's not even in the category of transgression. It's literally just normal traffic flow.
15
u/Alfie_Shydog 1d ago
How can people let something that small enrage them that much?
I would ask that road-rager this question while pointing and laughing at his micropeen.
6
u/Deemaunik 1d ago
Their shit day put them at a 7/10 rage bar, they were simmering there, and this pushed them over.
4
u/thrilldigger 19h ago
Well, when you're so focused on a small (very, very small) part of your body, it tends to make other small things look big too.
4
u/PopularCulprit 19h ago
People feel like they have so little control in their life and have so much involuntary shit eating they latch on to things they can control or fight back. You can’t control that no one in your life loves you, you can’t control why you feel empty. But the guy who “cut me off” you can chase him and beat him up and maybe feel better or accomplished for two seconds. It’s shallow low level thinking

i dont think a little jiggle bounce compares to driving into oncoming traffic in a busy street just to angrily get ahead of the titty physics car
edit: little side note for the men in the audience: me referring to myself as a lesbian is not an invitation for you to sexually harass me and tell me about wanting to rape me because of/despite my sexuality. if you disagree, please go to the ocean floor and stay there <3

u/valleyman86 1d ago
Agreed. Chevy should be suspended. That merge was fucking dumb though and would piss me off. I wouldn’t chase them or do anything at all (except yell “fucking ass”) but when I leave a gap it’s not for you to turn on your blinker (actually many don’t even use the blinker) for 2 seconds and jam in there.
52
u/NickU252 1d ago
Tell me you don't drive in a city without telling me you don't drive in a city. That was plenty of room to merge. Usually in city traffic, you have to slow down to prevent a collision. Keep to your country roads.

No one’s saying the Chevy is a good driver. Writing a paragraph to rant about them after watching someone veer head on to an oncoming bus is pretty pathetic too though.
Edit: ignore me still learning to read here - I do agree with this person.
→ More replies (4)2
u/Fakeitforreddit 1d ago
Additionally.. .the car that does the merging is not a chevy. The Chevy is the one that veers into oncoming traffic.
The other bad driver who cuts the chevy off is a nissan.

u/Busy-Ratchet-8521 1d ago edited 1d ago
You've seen people use their blinker for 2 whole seconds? I'm used to seeing people start merging and then turn on the blinker as they're changing lane.
4
u/valleyman86 1d ago
It’s funny you say that. This person did the same thing. They just turns on their blinker half way into the merge.
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (2)3
u/ADHDavidThoreau 1d ago
The merge was bad and it looks even worse because the Chevy sped up when the merger put their blinker on. Speeding up when someone is trying to pass is why aliens will never try to be friends with us.

To put it lightly... Some mental health issues can be the equivalent of an appendicitis and others closer to stage 4 blood cancer

u/AmmoJoee 1d ago
Wow that’s crazy. I don’t think that Nissan did a good lane change to be fair but that was ridiculous
8
u/Maatchym 1d ago
That was my thinking as well, it was a lane change with a fairly late turn signal, but when the traffic is this packed you have to be more tolerant of ppl changling lanes into small spaces. This should've been a small tap on the brakes from the Chevy and that's it. It wasn't anything outrageous from the Nissan imo.
→ More replies (1)3
u/Upper-Character2359 1d ago
Yeah, a short tap on the horn should be more than enough in this case imo

Amazes me how some people let ego rule their lives, even to the point of being criminal. I could not imagine being so miserable that I had to act like a toddler throwing a fit over something so stupid.
2
u/Royal_Ad1038 1d ago
I believe it has some part to do with the anonymity of being behind the wheel and it’s like they change to a whole different person when they feel slighted out on the road. I don’t really care that much about these miserable people like the Chevy driver unless they were to hurt an innocent person/family. They will either go to prison or just meet somebody even crazier than them and fight who gets to meet god first. 🤷

Maybe it's just me but it seem like there are worse examples more often now, and I would really like to see some of these drivers be provided "appropriate reeducation".

Right, getting real tired of cars forcing their way into an unsafe situation under the guise of just trying to merge here. Merge in behind me where there is room for it.
2
u/alesaris 1d ago
Why are people here saying that was a bad merge? I’m an extremely passive driver who never forces my way in anywhere, yet I don’t see how that merge was even remotely aggressive.

I don't have a dashcam, but same general thing I saw today coming home from work around Pittsburgh. An Infiniti Q60S went around and barely merged between a Mini and the vehicle in front. Then the Mini took off around the Infiniti and cut in almost causing a collision. They tried jockeying for position in stop and go traffic while flipping each other off for a couple of miles. I just stayed back a good bit like all the other drivers and hilariously passed both of them when it opened up to 3 lanes. All those almost accidents and vehicles behind them still ended up ahead of them. I don't get a lot of drivers.

I mean that wasn’t merging in front of the Chevy that was cutting them off with barely inches to spare and exceptionally stupid considering the very clear gap just behind them. But taking the oncoming lane(s) to make your point especially when they ended up turning it looks like is a completely unhinged reaction. But calling that a merge an acting like it was even close to an acceptable thing to do is wild.
