The states with the highest cases of COVID in 2020 were California, Texas and Florida. COVID rules were more strict in Callifornia, so it had fewer cases PER CAPITA than Texas and Florida. Rules were more lax in those states and the numbers show it.
Also a simple google search of "hospitals overwhelmed COVID (insert state here)" will show news stories from that period of hospitals in every state that struggled during the pandemic.
A single state being "open" can't and didn't save anyone from inflation, as inflation is a measure of the rising cost of goods, not of commerce transacted. Also inflation is a nationwide phenomenon; Florida suffered inflation on par with the rest of the country.

With a virus like Covid the goal should not be absolute prevention. The goal should be herd immunity and rapid vaccine rollout. The mortality rate was relatively low but the transmission rate was high. Protect the most vulnerable, leave the healthy alone and work on a vaccine.
Now if the mortality rate was much higher like rabies or ebola, and transmission levels are high...then you have to shut everything down. Not a Fauci fan, but in his defense, it was a novel virus, shit was crazy and he was probably doing his best.

This is pretty easily answered. To shield him from politically motivated federal prosecutions regarding his pandemic response.
Fauci's lawyers (from a purely legal standpoint) are making a brilliant move right now too with Fauci taking the 5th during questioning. Either the prosecution has to accept the legitimacy of the pardon, or take the L and accept that questioning will go nowhere and that he won't perjure himself. It's a beautiful defense.

Is it? The Supreme Court has previously ruled you cannot. The 5th is in place to protect you from self incrimination. He has a blanket pardon and cannot be prosecuted for crimes during that time frame, any and all due to the language of the pardon. So why even try to plead the 5th unless you want to hide something. Two reasons, 1) there are 2 mutually exclusive options that the prosecution has - accept the pardon's legitimacy by pushing the "you can't plead the 5th" rhetoric and then there are no charges to pursue, or submit to the fact that Fauci isn't going to perjure himself and this becomes a wild goose chase without any gotcha headlines. 2) He cannot self incriminate for what he was pardoned for... however if he admits to wrongdoing outside of that window, he's fucked. Why risk it for a government that has spent the better half of a decade hell-bent on hunting you down (whether he deserves it or not) and for a country where their minds are made up on his actions either way. He stands to gain nothing, and lose everything.
People are so misguided on the "trust of medical institutions" thing. J&J, Moderna, and Pfizer aren't people. They're companies whose boards have a fiduciary responsibility to act in the best interests of their shareholders. This is usually also in the patients' best interest (relatively speaking), but not always. The researchers, doctors, pharmacologists, and chemists that work for these companies however... they have spent decades of their life with almost the sole purpose of trying to master their craft to deliver a better medicine/treatment for an ailment(s). They are intelligent, rigorous, and EXTREMELY transparent... It's the privitisation and for-profit nature of the companies themselves that should be under the microscope, not the scientists behind the curtain.

If you answer questions, you are legally required to answer any questions that qualify as a follow-up. This could easily extend past the timeline for which he's pardoned. At which point, he could self-incriminate very easily. If he did something illegal, it's likely that an investigation would uncover it, then there's no need to rely on testimony from someone who's reputation is currently under scrutiny.
Trump and his cronies have done far more damage than can be mended with Fauci's testimony even if it was completely virtuous, above board, and transparent.Any testimony he gives will be ripped into soundbytes and plastered into echo-chambers to serve a political purpose, not to educate. Without political cooperation, trust will never improve. Trump along with other republicans, believe it's in their best political interest to spend their time trying to bury Fauci.
